Disco Elysium - The Final Cut

The rare no-combat RPG that actually lives up to the hype on every level

The skill check system is a pretty interesting way to do "combat" but it is pretty confusing at the start since the skills and thought cabinet run on vibes. The voice acting is great. There is a deep narrative and philosophical depth. Although sometimes it gets a bit long winded. The game seems like it has decent replayability through different character builds' dialogue options.

Odder still he both believes the gameplay is too text heavy while also loving the writing. How he reconciles these two points of view, I do not know -- but he is "vocal" on both of them.

Really good game, like an 8-9/10. Good characters, cool lore, great dialogue, definitely deserves the praise. But you should probably pirate it - or at the very least get it on a heavy sale - for reasons others have discussed.

Amazing game. It hooks you and won't let go. At first, you're completely lost, but you slowly pick up the mechanics and start to understand how it's meant to be played. Don't stress out, there is no 'right' decision, just enjoy it or suffer through it, but go with the flow. I recommend saving every now and then because you can die without warning; it's not that getting back to where you were is hard, but it takes a while and that can be a bit frustrating. A very original and different game. 10/10
