Dinosaur Safari VR

This is a nice concept for a game. It looks decent in VR and it runs smoothly too. There are informative facts given when you point at dinosaurs. It lacks a lot of gameplay elements, so it's more of a short walking simulator, only you can't really walk... Because the game requires you to teleport everywhere, which I don't enjoy. I am one of those types of people who enjoy locomotive controls, i.e. using the thumbsticks for movement and rotation. Which brings me to my next point: The game should have user configuration settings. Some people prefer alternative controls. Perhaps include an option to disable the vignette around the visor as well for a less obstructive view. Also, include an option to mute the TTS lady talking with seemingly no way to skip her long speeches and in return either add subtitles or a panel displaying information that the player can read. Her voice was loud and it felt like she was right up in my ears, and it was generally unpleasent to listen to. I think a human voice should replace her and make the speeches more entertaining to listen to, rather than a monotone speech by AI. When I saw two dinosaurs approach each other I went up close to watch hoping something would happen. Maybe they would fight, or maybe one would scare the other one away. What actually happens is they just walk through each other as if they don't even exist. I suppose I just expected more out of this game compared to others of this type I have played previously. With a few updates here and there and a bit of polishing up this game could be better, and seeing that it is in Early Access, I expect that it will be, and I may be back in the future to give it another try.

[h1] Experienced on the Oculus Rift with Touch Controllers [/h1] I actually thought this would be a bad experience, but it's actually pretty decent. The whole thing took me about 20 minutes, although you could probably spend a lot more time in this island. I saw 4 different dinosaurs. However, according to the store page there are 13 dinos. I thought I checked the whole Island, so they must have good hiding spots. Who knew that a T-Rex was so good at hiding? Movement is by teleport and you can choose the direction you're facing. Unfortunately, this is the poorest part of the experience as teleporting is frustrating as it doesn't always face the direction you want especially when pointing the teleport a long distance, it's just difficult to see where it's facing. The island is pretty big so you will need to teleport large distances. The graphics are below average, but the animations are decent (not great). There's nice ambient sounds all around. I was impressed with the amount of detail that went into this. I especially liked the informative recorded tidbits about each dinosaur you came across. There's even a day & night cycle and some weather (cloudy/misty). Rate 6.5/10. It's free, why not?
