Digital Eclipse Arcade: Q.P.I.D.

Q.P.I.D. is a VVVVVV inspired one-screen platforming puzzle game where you reverse gravity and shoot projectiles to collect hearts and cats. As the levels become more difficult, obstacles are introduced to destroy you directly or bounce you towards hazards. Each time you die you lose a charge of your battery, and if you run out, back to the title screen you go. The levels themselves can be fun to work through the first time. The problem that led to this negative review is that when I wanted to take a break and exited the game, all progress was lost. It seems you're supposed to play the entire game in one sitting, like an old school arcade game. It just doesn't work in 2024. I could recommend this if the developers removed the battery system and added a simple stage select. I only played about 20 minutes, but I didn't want to play those 20 minutes again to get to new stages. Also I really don't like that the cats can be shot. Boo.

It’s an ok concept, control sensitivity is just a bit too high for me, and there is no way to adjust. Moreover, there is no save system at all, so once you try and play this once, that’s about all the fun you’ll have with it. I know this is meant to be like an old school arcade game, but why adopt the issues of those old school games such as no saving when you don’t have to? It would make for a better game if this design decision was fixed.

Okay so, the core of this game is good: It has cool pixel graphics and old-style sounds, decent controls, cool puzzle/platforming mechanics and all that. So why is this review negative? [b]Because of the crappy saving system from decades ago.[/b] I understand this game is trying to emulate the feeling of an arcade game, but it's 2024! No one likes how arcade games used to save (or NOT save) progress! In this game, you're basically on a timer (battery that drains), and once you lose all battery, you have to go back to the last recharging station, which can be very far behind! It's also a bit challenging, which means you'll have to restart a level a lot of times. This wouldn't be so frustrating if you didn't have to worry about losing more battery because of the restart. It also doesn't allow you to restart a level. The only option is to restart the whole game. Oh, and it doesn't save your progress if you quit! That also sucks. Not to mention, I got soft-locked in a level, and couldn't find a way to restart or load the last checkpoint, besides waiting for the whole battery to drain... [b]TL;DR:[/b] Decent retro-style game, with awful retro saving mechanics.

クリアできたのでレビュー。全５４面。重力切替と銃の2ボタン。タイム制。チェックポイントからの無限コンティニューあり、セーブ機能なし。リトライはその面からではなく最初から。休憩するときはポーズをかけるとタイムがかかります。 楽しかったです。

Good little puzzle platformer

[h1] Um jogo para quem sente saudade dos arcades dos anos 90[/h1] Acho que o jogo é para um público alvo bem especifico e não irá agradar a maioria. É um jogo de plataforma com manipulação de gravidade, estilo VVVVV. O jogo é fluido, mas não se destaca. Falta um sistema de salvar ! acho que apenas saudosistas vão gostar... para mim, o jogo não passou uma vibe nostalgica, mas sim uma vibe datada.

A little too puzzle oriented for me, but it's a solid arcade experience for sure. Great arcade style graphics and sound, with very responsive controls. If you like arcade games this is one that is very much worth a shot.
