About
Die for the Economy! is a love letter to 1980s maze-based arcade games like Berzerk and Frenzy. Armed with your trusty blaster, the P-45, make your way through the maze, blast the evil robots and avoid the electrified walls.
Gameplay:
Play either the regular game (escape the maze), a random game with powerups, or 'classic' mode.
As you venture through the maze, finding and destroying security servers, you are accompanied by your friend The Union Rep over the video communicator. The Union Rep will provide useful instructions for getting out of the maze.
For bonus points, you can also collect patent documents which appear in most of the rooms. Each room has one and you can see on the results screen how many of them you ended up collecting- it's just a little extra challenge to take on as you battle your way through.
If you run away from the robots, they WILL taunt you for it. Because they're mean.
In a security server room, there are four shield terminals (one in each corner of the screen) that need to be destroyed to disable the shield surrounding the server in the center. Once you've taken the shield down, the server will be exposed and ready to receive some laser blasts! Hit it until it is destroyed.
When you disable all of the security servers, it's time to return to the start screen (in the center of the maze) where the teleporter will be activated (The Union Rep will tell you when it's time to return, so don't worry about keeping track of that!). Get back to the teleporter to complete the game.
See how far you can get in a randomly generated maze - it's different every time! In this mode, there are powerups to speed you up and extend your firepower. Take down as many bots as possible, survive the longest and beat your high scores.
It's a random maze, no servers, no powerups just a huge maze full of robots. See how long you can survive!
Beautiful, chunky pixel art graphics with a psychedelic slant harking back to the old 8-bit systems.
3 game modes to suit your style of play
Leaderboards for chasing your own high scores
The gameplay captures the essence of classic arcade games, but modernized to enjoy new features without taking away the original vibe.
Pause the game at any time, ideal if you need to put the kettle on and make a cup of tea!

This is a fun and clever take on the classic Berserk game. Controls are smooth and the graphics and audio are spot on. Fun and addictive gameplay loop. Definitely worth the low asking price!
How is your work/life balance? Ha ha ha! Nobody cares when they sic killer robots upon you to die! As indicated by the developer, this game is a Berserk-like. Shoot killer robots. Watch killer robots kill each other. Hear killer robots vocalize commands in business speak. Hear your operator give you encouragement. Collect documents to shred and wreck this evil corporation’s “valuable” intellectual property. Escape the maze. Do not die. This is a fun pick up and put down game for less than US$10. If it’s not clear, this game plays as expected on Steam Deck using the L-Stick and A-Button. Treat yourself with this game.
Very Shamus-like!
Brilliant Berzerk remake. Adds enough to keep the Berzerk formula fresh, while keeping the recognizably rage-inducing but addictive gameplay of the original. The robots still yell at you, but they are amateur comedians now. There are hidden political statements that I agree with. What's not to like?
Really enjoyable old-school arcade fun with chatty robot foes and satisfying pixelly explosions. :)
Short arcade game that knows exactly what it wants to be (to be like Berzerk)
A lovely little Berzerk-a-like. Works perfectly on Linux with Proton 9.0.
The managerbots are very realistic, quote: "I hate Mondays almost as much as I hate workers rights" So as expected, I have died for the economy. Great little retro highscore maze adventure with straightforward, but not easy, gameplay. Navigate the maze and take out the servers. Shoot the smart-alec bots and destroy patent documents to gain points. Take risks for extra points: Pick up patent documents and double-back over a route you have previously traveled to encounter faster, meaner enemies. Difficulty levels that really dial up the difficulty, I'm not going to try to navigate the maze in the dark on Frenzy mode, but you can if you'd like. I enjoy all the little touches, like the bezel, robots stopping their taunt and saying "Oof","Argh" if you shoot them while they're taunting you, and calling you chicken for leaving them alive as you leave. No minimap, but you do have the coordinates of your current room. Wish it was dual-stick but it isn't and doesn't need to be. My only gripes are that you can't disable the narrator, you can't rebind/use WASD (controller is supported, however. Great on the deck), and the hurry-up robot is present even in easy-mode (no handing the controller to a nephew or grandparent, they'll be toast).
A lovely, crunchy reimagining of Berzerk that seems to understand Berzerk better than Atari understand Berzerk as evidenced by their recent reimagining of Berzerk that wasn't as good as this reimagining of Berzerk.
Anti-capitalist Smash TV with much, much more thought put into it. Shut your brain off in a pleasurable fashion!
