I've played this game more times than I can count. What more can I say, but it's an absolute classic. I couldn't care less how many times Blizzard keeps trying to recreate the wheel with another Diablo game; this is the one! Just like an old love, when I saw it on Steam recently, I couldn't say no!
Diablo 2 is an absolute masterpiece of gameplay design, assuming your idea of fun is clicking a mouse until your carpal tunnel gets its own carpal tunnel. It is the pinnacle of the year 2000, a time when games were built with tough love, zero explanation, and an unhealthy fixation on making you suffer for simple life choices. The story starts off with a chilling gothic atmosphere that makes you feel like an epic hero, which lasts for about five minutes until you realize your legendary champion gets completely winded after jogging three steps. Yes, the stamina bar exists because nothing says dark fantasy like an all-powerful barbarian who needs to stop and catch his breath while running away from a glowing goat-man. The character progression is a wonderful puzzle. You get to invest dozens of hours into leveling up a character, only to discover at level 60 that putting three points into the wrong skill made your build entirely useless on higher difficulties. You have created an unplayable monument to your own ignorance, and your reward is starting the entire game over from scratch. Nothing builds character like total, unrecoverable failure. Managing your inventory is a breathtaking minigame colloquially known as Inventory Tetris. You will routinely leave behind legendary weapons capable of felling god-like demons because your backpack is completely stuffed with giant wooden charms that grant +1 to light radius and four extra points of stamina. Picking up items is a delicate art, mostly because you need to reserve 80% of your grid space for health potions, which you will drink like water at an open bar. Combat is a frantic, high-octane spectacle where you continuously press one button while babysitting a suicidal mercenary who insists on standing directly inside poison clouds. You will spend countless hours farming the exact same boss thousands of times just to see a single shiny drop, which turns out to be a low-level set piece you already found three weeks ago. Overall, Diablo 2 is a flawless, timeless classic that successfully converts your precious free time into digital dopamine, ruined wrists, and a burning hatred for skeleton archers. Ten out of ten, will spend another two hundred hours running Baal runs tonight.

I mean, it's Diablo II, the game that almost broke my education as a teenager. It's fantastic.
