Diablo 2 Resurrected is a non-remake (as far as I can tell, it's a graphics shell Blizzard slapped onto the original game and had the balls to charge full price for) that addresses exactly none of the problems the original game had (chief among them the fact that two character classes are non-viable trap options) while adding a new character class and a loot filter that were originally paid DLC. Of the eight character classes, two are outright jokes. First is the Necromancer, which has been broken (in a bad way) since the game launched: the main build relies on uncontrollable pets that have collision with each other, meaning that half the time they either get stuck in a corner or die trying to all fit through a narrow doorway. The Barbarian is also a joke but for a different reason: it's a class that can hit one thing at a time in a game about spamming explosions. Somehow, I don't think anyone would have complained if whatever B-Team Blizzard had working on this fixed the pathfinding and reworked the skill trees, but that would require effort that could go into making more microtransaction cosmetics for Diablo 4 and suing all those World of Warcraft private servers to the ground. Then there's the problem of gear drop rates, which make early-2000s Korean F2P MMOs look reasonable by comparison. There's no bias for item drops at all, and it's virtually impossible to gear up without using external trading sites that are increasingly abandoned because this game is nearly dead online outside of farm lobbies on the hardest difficulty (and even then there's not many of those). I'm not joking when I say I spent 20 hours playing this without ever finding an item drop I could actually use: I spent the entirety of the first two difficulties using a staff I got off a vendor because I could not find anything better. Again, you would think given the lack of any kind of competitive endgame and the fact that Blizzard themselves don't have any real financial incentive (ie; they're not the middleman in a real money trading market) that they'd at least add some kind of bias to ensure you can play the game without needing to stop and visit a trading website every few hours. That's another problem: there really is no endgame. Diablo 3 and 4 have a ladder system based around going through an infinite, randomized dungeon with ranks handed out based on how far you got and how long it took you to get there. It makes sense to actually try for best-in-slot in those games because it's not terribly difficult and because there's something to actually use it on. D2 has nothing: once you finish the game on Hell, that's all there is. Avoid.
Requested a refund. Cannot see it worth the price if you have the original
I really don't understand why I can buy this game on steam but cannot play it without a separate launcher from blizzard. Am I crazy to think that the games you buy on steam should run ON JUST STEAM? Refunded.
So here is how you know this game is a scam. I bought this game on my switch 2 years ago when they released it. I already owned it on battle.net It makes me buy this game because it can't tell that I already own this game, but as soon as the game downloads and loads me in, IT HAS ALL MY CHARACTER DATA FROM MY OTHER VERSIONS. Nice one blizzard. Very nice. You have no way to make it so that we can download this on steam so we can play on steamdeck without forking over another 30 dollars. Well played. REFUNDED
Would be great if not for being required to log in to battle.net every 30 days
Still Amazing After More Than 20 Years I came to Diablo II pretty late. I had already played Diablo III and Diablo IV, so I assumed this old game would feel outdated. After playing it, I finally understood why so many people still consider it one of the greatest ARPGs ever made. What I love the most is that **every item drop feels meaningful**. A small rune, a white sword with the right number of sockets, or a Paladin shield with All Resist can be more exciting than finding a rare item. Hunting for the perfect base item to create Runewords is incredibly satisfying. The game is also far from easy. By the end of Act IV and throughout Act V, I got destroyed multiple times. I had to go back, farm runes, look for better socketed gear, and upgrade my equipment before I could finally progress. That challenge made every improvement to my character feel rewarding. Diablo II isn't a game where you simply equip legendary items and win. It encourages you to learn about builds, Runewords, resistances, breakpoints, and many other mechanics. The more you play, the more depth you discover. If you've never played Diablo II because you think it's too old, I highly recommend giving Diablo II: Resurrected a chance. The gameplay is still incredibly addictive, and it's easy to see why this game has maintained such a passionate community for over two decades. 10/10 — A timeless ARPG masterpiece that every RPG fan should experience at least once.
Yeah so why the ♥♥♥♥ do i have to open battlenet to play and why do i need to be online? FOH. Game is also disconnecting from bnet all the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ time for no reason really.
Titan Quest, Torchlight, Path of Exile, Grim Dawn, Last Epoch
Awesome Game, but after 1000 hours, and 20 plus years after I originally started playing this game I'm still terrible at it.
My favourite game of all time. Just wish blizzard cared as much as I do.
