Devils’ Night Party, developed by NAGATOUI and published by Playmeow alongside Playmeow News, is a narrative-focused title that leans heavily into visual novel conventions while incorporating light simulation elements. It presents itself as a character-driven experience built around social interaction, choice-making, and branching outcomes, with a tone and structure clearly aimed at a niche audience that appreciates dialogue-heavy storytelling combined with mature themes. The premise centers on a protagonist placed in a time-limited situation where forming relationships becomes the primary objective. This setup frames the entire experience, guiding players through a series of encounters with different characters, each offering their own narrative paths and outcomes. The story unfolds almost entirely through dialogue, with decisions shaping how relationships evolve and which scenarios become available. While the overarching narrative is relatively straightforward, the game attempts to create engagement through variation in character interactions rather than through a complex plot. Gameplay is built around a simple loop of selecting actions, progressing through events, and managing interactions. Players choose how to spend their time, which characters to engage with, and how to respond during conversations. These choices influence hidden variables that determine the direction of each route. The systems behind these mechanics are intentionally minimal, keeping the focus on narrative progression rather than on strategy or challenge. This makes the game easy to follow, but it also limits how much agency players feel they have beyond choosing dialogue options. One of the game’s defining characteristics is its emphasis on branching paths. Multiple routes and endings encourage replay, as players can revisit the experience to explore different outcomes. However, the depth of these branches varies. Some paths introduce noticeable changes in tone and events, while others feel like slight adjustments to the same core scenarios. This unevenness can reduce the sense of discovery over time, especially for players who expect each route to offer a significantly different experience. The inclusion of mature content is central to the game’s identity and is woven directly into its narrative structure. It is not presented as an optional addition but as a core element that influences character interactions and progression. This focus shapes the tone of the entire experience, making it clear that the game is designed for a specific audience. For those who are interested in this type of content, it adds to the appeal and reinforces the game’s themes. For others, it may overshadow the more traditional storytelling elements and limit its accessibility. Visually, the game follows a familiar visual novel style, featuring anime-inspired character art, static backgrounds, and minimal animation. The presentation is clean and functional, prioritizing clarity and readability over visual complexity. Character expressions and designs carry most of the visual weight, while environments serve primarily as context for the dialogue. The overall aesthetic is consistent with the genre, though it does not stand out in terms of detail or innovation. The game’s limitations become more apparent over extended play. The simplicity of its mechanics means that repetition can set in quickly, as the core loop does not change significantly from one scenario to another. Without deeper systems or more varied interactions, the experience relies almost entirely on its writing and character dynamics to maintain engagement. When those elements succeed, the game can feel immersive, but when they fall short, the lack of mechanical depth becomes more noticeable. In the end, Devils’ Night Party is a focused and niche experience that delivers a straightforward, choice-driven narrative centered on relationships and personal outcomes. It offers enough variation to encourage multiple playthroughs, but its limited gameplay systems and uneven narrative depth prevent it from achieving broader appeal. For players who enjoy visual novels with a strong emphasis on character interaction and mature themes, it provides a consistent, if somewhat modest, experience. For others, it may feel too narrow in scope to leave a lasting impact. Rating: 6/10
Simplemente... No lo recomiendo ni aun su precio...
Its not a terrible game, however it feels unfinished or under whelming. The combat scenes are good and it adds a feeling of present to the game play, but the system of multiple deaths in combat till you reach game over feels like they were trying for a rogue-like effect that feels kind of flat. The story while limited is interesting, I do remember this game was delayed a few times before release so that adds to the unfinished feeling. Additionally there is a major bug that if you uninstall the game and reinstall you only keep the 2 pre-made versions used during testing and your own personal save disappears meaning you have to start again or from the dev save files. Overall not bad but not great, decent if you got a few hours and it is on sale but there are better games by the same publisher.
The mixed score is fitting. The game is just boring. I didnt make it out of the first dungeon. At least i think there are more of them. The combat has some interesting flavor, but its just badly excecuted making it boring. The scenes are still images. 4/10
