I got all achievements for the whole trilogy, so I have a good grasp on how I feel about this collection.
-Dmc 1
Loved the setting, the music and the stages. Every mission ambiance felt memorable. I really enjoyed how snooping around the stages and backtracking to other areas is rewarded. Every enemy and boss fight requires a specific approach and learning how to deal with each encounter feels amazing. The enemies log and the map interface are surprisingly good. However, the first time I played this game i got my sh*t wrecked. Normal difficulty is real punishing towards noobs to the genre, meanwhile the easy difficulty feels like an insult to your intelligence by how weak enemies become. Some weapons feel pointless and I really did NOT enjoy most boss fights. Most people complain about the underwater section, but tbh it's so short it really isn't that bothersome. The camera system did NOT age well, it made some encounters unbearable. Bossfights do not have much of a variation and I specifically found the final bossfight genuinely boring and annoying, and 100% worth to cheese using untouchables.
It's not a bad game, but not that great either. The whole nostalgia factor and the "pioneer of the genre" title do some heavy lifting for this game's reputation.

This game's reputation is all you need to know. Genuinely makes this collection lose value.
Just ignore it. Staring at a blank wall might be more entertaining.

Perfection. One of the best games oat. I could glaze this game all day long. Every single thing that sucked from the other games got fixed while all the other aspects improved. This game honestly ruined the whole devil may cry saga for me, it is impossible for any other game to be this good. I will not review this game any further since all I can do is praise it.
This is the kind of game you must experience before you die. It is that good.
Most importantly, lets talk about this hot mess of a lazy port capcom proudly calls HD collection. I had several resolution issues, I had to install DXVK to fix the glitched text on dmc3 (common issue known for years btw), I had random controller deadzones specifically on dmc2 and I encountered countless game crashes. Most cutscenes on dmc1 (specifically the ones involving mundus) look straight from the original and the drop in video quality is extremely noticeable. Capcom should be called out for its incompetence.
I would recommend getting this collection only on a real cheap sale. Dmc3 is where the real value of this collection is found.
