The list of Oscar winners has been stolen as part of a nefarious plot to overturn the established Hollywood order. Our hero has to struggle through a series of tests and tasks in order to uncover the clues as to who has done it. And, of course, to stop him carrying out his threat.

Comedy point-and-click adventure made by a Czech studio. It's the sixth entry in the Polda series (popular in that country), but is stand-alone except for a few minor references I didn't get. 3d characters are "disguised" as 2d or made more cartoony by textures while the backgrounds are hand drawn by airbrush (not sure what that means). The mix worked well enough, and I liked the clunky slapstick animations. Lots of thinly veiled parodies of celebrities from the 80s and 90s. Likenesses were good enough and were part of the game's appeal. Good interface, but I bemoan the one-click interactions without different icons removing challenge and almost playing the game automatically. I very much liked having the objectives listed and updated. The English verbs and nouns used were sometimes wrong in an otherwise good translation that showed effort. All traditional inventory puzzles, no out-of-context Myst puzzles except maybe one. I liked them. No optional interactions or comments if an item was not the proper one to use, and I missed that. I thought moon-logic puzzles would be an issue at first, an example being
the rope on the kid
but they were very rare or I didn't notice them. The computer puzzle relying on luck with limited tries and a time limit was a bad design, but you can brute force your way through it quickly enough. No item descriptions and no combining items straight in the inventory. You have to deposit them on a flat surface first; that was a small negative. No English solution at the time I write this, but there's kind of a "cheat" where you can
hit spacebar in the inventory screen and see what items can be used on the current screen
. More of a game for adults due to risque references. Overall, I liked this enough to wishlist the few other English-translated entries in the series.
I would love to give this game a negative review, but it's not a bad game, just very mediocre. It's actually the sixth entry in the "Polda" franchise, a series of Czech games about a bumbling detective. I'm Czech myself, but I'm writing this review in English because I think the English dubbed version is actually better than the original Czech dubbing. The main Czech voice actor for the protagonist can be annoying, but the English voice actor is surprisingly solid. So, why is this game mediocre? There are two main reasons: 1) The story is basic and not very engaging. 2) The characters are equally basic and uninteresting. The only thing that's truly impressive is the environments. The overall art style is probably the best in the series compared to the previous five installments. There’s a lot of variety in the settings—you'll visit the main character's house, his flying car, a Hollywood villa, a secret cave, the LA police station, Santa Monica beach, a lighthouse, Hollywood studios (including a sci-fi and wild west studio), and even the Oscars ceremony. These environments are the game's strongest feature. Unfortunately, the main gameplay revolves around talking to bland characters, and there’s far too much dialogue that could have been cut. There are also some minigame puzzles: a chess puzzle, assembling a statue, powering on a PC by connecting lines to the CPU, and my favorite—a movie-themed minigame where you match pictures to the correct movies (e.g., a picture of Indiana Jones goes with a whip, a picture of Trinity goes with green code, and a picture of Titanic connects to an iceberg etc.). It's a shame there weren’t more of these minigames because some were actually pretty fun. As for the story, there’s not much to say. I’ve beaten the game five or six times, and I still can’t remember anything specific about it. It’s just a generic detective story, but with a Hollywood/movie theme, which adds some flavor. Along your journey through LA, you’ll encounter caricatures of famous people like Rafael Nadal, Johnny Depp, and Jack Nicholson. However, interacting with these characters is a very small part of the game. It’s a shame there weren’t more of them, as most of the game is spent talking to generic NPCs like a receptionist, a gardener, a couple of policemen, a drugged-out woman, a security guard, and a generic Native American character. If you search for "Polda" on Steam, you’ll find other entries in the franchise, but they’re not in English. This game is the only exception. It was the developers' attempt to bring the series to an international audience, but I don’t think it was successful, as the newest entry, "Polda 7," is once again only available in Czech. Now, about the achievements. There are some easy ones that you’ll unlock just by playing the game naturally, but then there are the speedrun achievements, which are quite tough. You’ll need to memorize every single action to progress quickly—really quickly. The game usually takes around five hours to beat, but the hardest speedrun achievement requires you to complete it in ONLY ONE HOUR! What I did was find the world record speedrun on YouTube, write down all the interactions the player made, and then use my notes to replicate the playthrough. It’s a pretty dumb achievement in my opinion, as you’ll have to skip all the dialogue, making the game even less interesting, but it was still a decent challenge. The last achievement I needed was the "walk 10 km" achievement, which was an absolute grind. I beat the game five or six times and only walked about 3 km. It’s stupid because you can teleport in the game by double-clicking on a spot on the screen. There’s no need to "walk slowly" when you can just teleport, so this achievement is literally a complete time-waster. To get it, I just went to the "Hollywood villa" area, which is the flattest and widest space in the game, and walked left to right for about an hour and a half. If the achievement had asked for "100 km," I would’ve given the game a negative review. Despite being grindy, it wasn’t that bad overall. My final verdict: It’s a mediocre game. If you don’t expect much and are aware of its flaws, you might enjoy it. But if you skip it, you’re not missing out on anything. However, if you’re learning Czech and want to practice through a video game, this might be a good option. Just keep in mind that the main character speaks often in a Moravian dialect.
palec nahoru i před hraním
The developers seemed obsessed with toilet humor. There are several scenes where we are forced to look at, play with, or talk about human or animal feces. Our hero repeatedly passes gas throughout the game. But the most annoying part is when you stand still for a minute, he heaves this very loud sigh every 30 seconds or so. It's louder than the rest of the sound so it's extremely irritating. Also, there are several scenes where we hurt or are cruel to animals. At one point, our" hero" handcuff a horse's legs and then giggles when he can't get up. We just left him there looking very distressed and confused. Sure it's just a game, but it didn't sit well with me. Not sure if that kind of thing is funny in Czechoslovakia, but it isn't funny to me. Also, the dialogue was apparently translated and voiced by a computer, so there are unnatural expressions and incorrect pronunciations. The "rapper" in the jail is the worst because he uses slang and abbreviations that makes no sense and the computer actor spells out some of the words since it didn't know how to pronounce them. The main guy's voice is irritating. He often uses weird expressions and puts emphasis on weird words. He's also a bit of a scumbag. At one point, he tries to force a woman to service him sexually in exchange for some dirty pictures of her. When she acts outraged, he gives her horse crap and tells her it's a facial mask. Just a charmless douche. There are also a bit too many puzzles that are illogical and don't make sense. We carry a homemade laser with us throughout the game. There's no rhyme or reason to when we can use it to open a lock or knock something down. Sometimes he refuses and sometimes he doesn't. But one of the worst puzzles is toward the end when we need to pull down a projector screen. There is a perfectly good stepladder that we just used to to retrieve an item on a shelf. For some reason, our idiot hero decides to try to use the stepladder to jump closer to the screen. He tries to jump on it like a pogo stick and falls over again and again. He could have just moved it under the screen. It made no sense and was infuriating to watch. I know this guy is supposed to be some kind of hillbilly. But we just moved the ladder to complete a task a few minutes before. Why is it suddenly so impossible now?! Those kinds of puzzles are a bit too common in this game. Other than that, the game is somewhat fun, but the story isn't all that exciting. These days, most of the games with interesting stories use pixel graphics. This was a nice change from that I guess. Unfortunately, the hero comes off slow and unlikable most of the time. Maybe that was the point but it was awkwardly done. Also, his voice sounds like he's getting over a cold with a nasal sounding, whiny voice. Hoping the sequel is a bit better.

Doporučuju: • skvělý a originální příběh • hezky ručně malované pozadí, postavy...
Polda... Kdo by neznal sérii Polda.
Detective Hayseed - Hollywood is a deliberately eccentric point-and-click adventure developed and published by Zima software that embraces absurdity, parody, and old-school adventure design with unapologetic enthusiasm. From its opening moments, the game makes it clear that logic will often take a back seat to humor, as players step into the role of Detective Hayseed, a scruffy and unconventional investigator drawn into a wildly exaggerated Hollywood conspiracy. The central premise—recovering stolen Oscar results and preventing chaos at a major awards ceremony—sets the tone for an experience that treats pop culture, mystery tropes, and even the detective genre itself as toys to be bent and mocked. The narrative unfolds as a string of bizarre situations rather than a tightly wound mystery, leaning heavily on surreal humor and unexpected turns. Instead of carefully assembling clues in a traditional noir fashion, players are more often thrown into strange errands and comedic scenarios that feel intentionally disconnected in a way that reinforces the game’s cartoon logic. Encounters with over-the-top characters, exaggerated Hollywood stereotypes, and outright nonsensical events keep the plot moving forward through sheer unpredictability. This approach won’t appeal to players looking for a serious detective story, but it does succeed in establishing a playful, anything-can-happen atmosphere. Gameplay sticks closely to classic point-and-click conventions. Players explore environments, examine objects, talk to characters, and collect items that are combined or used in often unexpected ways. Puzzle design varies widely in quality and tone, with some challenges offering clever solutions that reward observation and experimentation, while others rely on leaps of logic that can feel arbitrary. This unevenness is very much in line with traditional adventure games of the past, where trial and error was often part of the experience, but it can still lead to moments of frustration when progress hinges on particularly opaque solutions. Visually, the game adopts a distinctive mixed style that combines hand-painted backgrounds with stylized character models. This gives Detective Hayseed - Hollywood a look that feels unusual and slightly off-kilter, which suits its comedic identity. While the presentation lacks the polish of higher-budget adventures, the art direction has personality and a clear sense of intent. Locations are exaggerated caricatures of Hollywood spaces, reinforcing the satirical tone rather than striving for realism. Animations can be stiff at times, but they rarely detract from the overall charm of the environments. Dialogue and humor are central to the experience, and the game leans heavily on wordplay, visual gags, and situational comedy. Jokes range from clever to groan-worthy, often within the same scene, making the sense of humor highly subjective. Players who enjoy irreverent, sometimes crude comedy will likely find plenty to laugh at, while others may feel the writing occasionally overreaches or undercuts its own jokes. Voice acting and sound design are serviceable, supporting the dialogue without elevating it significantly, but they help maintain pacing and reinforce character personalities. One of the game’s strengths is its willingness to fully commit to its identity. It does not attempt to modernize or streamline the adventure formula for broader appeal, instead embracing the quirks, frustrations, and freedoms of classic point-and-click design. This makes it particularly appealing to genre veterans who appreciate experimentation, oddball humor, and puzzles that require patience. At the same time, newcomers may struggle with the lack of guidance and the sometimes unpredictable puzzle logic. In the end, Detective Hayseed - Hollywood is a personality-driven adventure that thrives on its weirdness rather than precision. Its narrative cohesion and puzzle design can be inconsistent, but its creativity, humor, and refusal to play things straight give it a memorable identity. For players who enjoy comedic adventure games that value originality and satire over elegance and polish, it offers an entertaining journey through a warped version of Hollywood where logic bends, jokes fly freely, and the mystery is just another excuse for absurdity. Rating: 8/10
Samotný příběh kolem dvou rodů, Kárlů a Dionýzů, mi přišel poměrně originální. Je podaný humorně, ale zároveň i trochu mysticky, což dobře zapadá do stylu celé série. Celebrity a humor Hra si dělá legraci z různých celebrit.
