Well, if there ever was a game genre that would be first in line to be over flooded by AI, it'd be the HOG, and here we are. AI tools can be great, especially when it comes to like cross references for important info or using with cameras at trains stations to help prevent sewer slides by identifying patterns and erratic behaviors etc. There are many occasions and practices were AI can be used to great advantage, development and evolution. It is not very appreciated to replace human made art however. It takes work away from real artists, it is very cynical in its interpretation of what art is and means, and on top of this it is also very bad for the environment, costing a lot of water and energy to produce. As the Poland based Artifex Mundi game dev company stopped releasing HOG titles on Steam, the top spot was open to a replacement to take, and Do Games Limited (prev Russian now based in Cyprus?) seem to be a very active contender, releasing a lot of games with short intervals. And as a HOG fan, I was hoping for someone willing to take the place and fill my personal need for relaxing and therapeutic games with the added endorphin rushes that achievements get me. I've only bought their games on sale to check them out, and I have to say that had I not, I'd feel very ripped off. Firstly, they often contain AI art, especially noticeable in cut scenes with character models. I suspect very highly that all backgrounds, and even puzzles and the story scripts, are made with AI too, though I cannot prove this claim. It just feels off. The character art is most def AI, visually detectable. And tbh, it often looks great and gives a smooth impression, but it has that bitter aftertaste of fakeness and taking something from someone else, be it in the now some worker was being replaced, or in the past, with someones already created work like this being emulated and used again and again without anyone getting the cred or pay. Secondly, even if you are fine with puzzles and topics being repeated again and again (I can personally be), the way some things are repeated feels very cheap. Their games seem to always contain opening drawers by putting a string or the like into the holes for a missing handle the same way (though how would you be able to put the string through the holes without opening the drawer to do so?). And that is the fine version. The not okay version is the solutions that seem utterly otherworldly and make zero sense. There has always been a layer of game logic in HOGS that needs to be accepted as a little wonky but alright for gameplays sake, like how you'd have to find a new crowbar for everything that needs a crowbar rather than keep the original crowbar, or how you might not be able to use a candle to light something up if the game demands a lighter. But here it's all the more often a matter of clicking everything in order to find what the game wants you to use for what, and it is frustrating to not be able to figure out for yourself. The sense of accomplishment is often deluded or diminished. It's like the AI took all the previous HOGs occasional moon logic and made it more standard, as if humans operated under and understood moon logic just fine. Thirdly, from what I've seen of the Do Games Limited library, they have the nasty habit of hiding part of the game behind paid DLC. So in order to be able to access certain dialogue choices and get the good endings and associated achievements, you have to buy the DLC. Fine if they are on sale, but they should not be a separate part of the game to begin with. It's just greedy and distasteful. Fourthly, there are more bugs than usual for the genre. HOGs are simple games not demanding much PC power, but for whatever reason I've both encountered & read about a lot more bugs than usual.
A delightful hidden object game. Welcome to the "Young Detectives Club" of art-loving teenagers: George, Thomas, and Emily. Their passion leads them to visit the city's renowned art gallery for the inauguration of a rare Renaissance piece: "The Knights' Oath." But George realizes something is wrong. Upon closer inspection, he doesn't recognize the style of the artist, the "Old Man," and suspects it's a fake. Where did the real painting go? Determined to uncover the truth, with the help of Harold Finch, a shopkeeper, they research the history of the famous painting and search for its owner. Soon they find themselves caught up in a larger conspiracy in the art world. Carmmichal is determined to keep the secrets hidden, and will do anything to keep the Club from knowing the truth. Through puzzles and cryptic clues, they uncover a secret hidden in the original "The Knights' Oath," but it won't be easy for the young members of the Club, as the adventure is turning into a race against the Killer! Well-crafted object-hunting scenes, moderately challenging minigames and puzzles, and a soundtrack that fits the game's theme. Pay attention to locations, as there are 140 ancient coins to find; they're also marked on the map. Bonus chapter. A purchasable DLC is available that reveals new secrets.
All in all it IS a good game... BUT to get the best end you HAVE to get the DLC. There is a lot of content going missing if you do not have it either. You can't even get all the achievments if you don't have it.... I gotta give credit where credit is due though, the graphics are beautiful and it's amazing to see animations like these in a HOG. Won't be purchasing any more from this publisher though if I can help it... :/
The story is fun and i loved all the mini games and HoGs, but I felt like I was missing a lot without the DLC.
