--Update 2-- 2021-06-06 I finally took the time to finish the game. Achievements 3-8 don't trigger even if you flawlessly finish a level. What's up dev? DO NOT BUY THIS unless you want a partially finished game. --Update 1 -- 5 Levels completed, achievements 3-5 not triggering, yet somehow there are players that have them? Verifying the integrity of game files doesn't seem to help. It seems like the game is abandoned by the developer... Major issues: - It seems like some towers with "abilities" do nothing? After testing them all it is unclear that the freeze and explosion ones do anything obvious. Maybe they buff towers around them? - So far the game has ended as though I lost when I was finishing the last round, forcing me to redo level 5 despite being winning. It must have been a bug. - There's a really fun core idea here if the developer just came back and continued working on it, but they seem to be missing/not communicating with the community. - I have changed my review to NOT recommend this game to people. Despite being optimistic about game devs and understanding of what it must be like for them, this is clearly only partially finished. Only a little more work would make this game great. The developer coming and communicating with the community would also help a lot. Unfortunately, there isn't much on them out there on the web. If the dev comes back, weighs in, or fixes the game, I'll happily recommend Defense high. However, until then, I do not recommend this game unless you don't care about partially polished games. --Review-- Normally I wait to 100% a game before reviewing. However, I'm hoping that the developer sees this. Defense high is actually a decently fun tower defense game. It's simple and has a very minimal interface. I've found that I have a certain strategy that I lean towards and it works well for me but others might do differently. When I first started playing I struggled quite a bit because there's no tutorial and you can get hit pretty hard early on. However, once you get the hang of it, it's fun. If you figure out a winning strategy, it's super satisfying to just sit back and watch the destruction. My Main Complaint: The Achievement for completing Level 3 does not seem to trigger. I am going to continue on and see if the later ones do. However, this is a huge disappointment because I was hoping to 100% this. Another user mentioned this issue in 2020 and it does not seem like the developer has fixed it. I hope that it's not abandoned :( I will update this when I finish the game.
Fraco!
This is a low effort 2D retro tower defence game. Place generic towers against a generic onslaught of generic enemies on a 2D generic map with a couple of different well marked attack routes. Fixed resolution is just the start of the problems here, and while it's hard to put a finger directly on it, the quality here is just low. The interface is lacklustre. The towers are uninspiring and kind of poorly balanced. And the poor balance is where we start to understand the problem... the lack of polish and balance. The developers did a pretty bad job of polishing and balancing the game, and that's a crucial factor for a good tower defence game. Just play Kingdom Rush if you want tower defence. You won't get a better experience here.
First Impression: was terrible. Minimal information given, just defend the castle and go. I quite after 5 minutes as the game was painful (physically) to play. Second Impression: ok, ok, I gave it a second go. Pretty much spam the towers or you're done. The game is not very well paced and not balanced at all. It is missing loads of standard Tower defense mechanisms, such as stats. It feels like it was strapped together and tossed out to the wild. Is it worth $2? no. is it worth $0.50? maybe, as a lesson on what not to do. I'm sure some will like it for its brutality.
Just a really sub-par effort, plus it crashes. Mind you it is pretty, clearly decent art assets are easy to aquire, but that simply isn't enough to make this game even worth the eighty some odd cents I paid for this. Getting my money back. Why is it so hard to find a decent tower defense game.
A tower defense game with nice graphics, sound, and a large number of levels, some of which are quite challenging, can easily keep you busy for several evenings.
It's okay, little harsch, challenging, VERY old school
And I thought that was it after I beaten all those waves, because it was harsch... Finding out that this was just level 1... :DInterface and the ability to understand it right away, I give it 6/10. Fun scale 7/10. Overall: 7 (not bad, not great, just right)
