Her village destroyed, she traveled North with her elk companion hoping to find any clues about those who wronged her. You’ll start in the outskirts of the Laetus Grove, only to find that all is not what it seems - strange hostile dwellers with wooden bodies and vacant eyes now patrol this land...

Lock-on to enemies for a more tactical approach; parry, dodge and counter-attack while always keeping your stamina in check as you deliver deadly blows and combos. Prepare your battles ahead by using the elk's secondary inventory to store a variety of short and long range-weapons, defense gear, and potions.

Set in a far-reaching and interconnected semi-open world, you’ll explore a divided kingdom once ruled by a warring King. Tragedy struck when his beloved Queen died during childbirth - the royal family was irreversibly broken and the King’s sons drifted apart, each claiming a piece of the realm. Make your way through the lush woodland, the great Howling Rift, degraded swamps, ancestral grounds and many other unique locations.

You’ll travel alone with your companion, facing off the likes of giants and many other mystical foes while clearing the path by solving ancestral environmental puzzles. With a will of its own, and more than a mount, you must strengthen your bond by petting and feeding the elk before you can ride it. Ada will come across several charismatic NPC's along the way; fully voice acted, they're a good source of lore, guidance and items.

Decay of Logos invites player exploration with minimal hand-holding by using a minimalistic interface while relying on environmental cues and dialogue for guidance. Ada even displays all gear and items on her while animations reflect her physical state. Leveling is fully automated and based on your play style, Ada gains stats when you kill an enemy, activate a mechanism or even when finding a secret chest.

The artwork and game play reminds me a lot of Legend of Zelda games. Honestly, the game is a relaxing break for me from having the crap beaten out of me playing Souls-like games. You can make some progress with this game if you have an hour or two. Lots of area to explore and most of the minor enemies are quick kills. You just don't want to tackle a large group because they don't wait their turn. Overall, very enjoyable. I was lucky enough to come across this game for free on Steam but I was looking for this kind of game and would have considered purchasing also.

Decay of Logos is an ambitious action RPG that blends challenging combat, open-ended exploration, and environmental storytelling into a fantasy adventure that clearly draws inspiration from classic action-adventure games and modern soulslike design philosophies. Developed and published by Amplify Creations, the game places players in the role of Ada, a young adventurer whose peaceful life is shattered after the Crimson Knights destroy her village. Driven by revenge and the desire to uncover the truth behind the tragedy, she embarks on a dangerous journey across a mysterious kingdom accompanied by an unusual ally—a mystical elk that serves as far more than a simple mount. The game's narrative focuses on themes of betrayal, loss, perseverance, and discovery, allowing its story to unfold naturally through exploration instead of relying on lengthy exposition. One of the game's defining features is its emphasis on player immersion. Rather than filling the screen with quest markers, minimaps, and constant objective reminders, Decay of Logos encourages players to observe the world carefully and pay attention to conversations and environmental clues. This minimalist approach creates a rewarding sense of adventure for those who enjoy discovering secrets on their own, although it may occasionally leave less patient players uncertain about where to go next. The interconnected world is filled with forests, ancient ruins, castles, caves, and forgotten pathways that reward curiosity with hidden treasures, optional encounters, and environmental storytelling. Exploration becomes one of the game's greatest strengths because every new location feels handcrafted and distinct, inviting players to stray from the main path whenever an interesting landmark appears on the horizon. Combat embraces deliberate timing rather than frantic button mashing. Enemies range from aggressive wildlife and corrupted soldiers to towering giants and mystical creatures, each demanding careful observation of attack patterns and proper stamina management. Dodging, blocking, and choosing the right moment to strike become essential for survival, making every victory feel earned. The challenge level is intentionally demanding, encouraging players to learn through repeated encounters rather than relying on overpowering equipment alone. While the combat system can sometimes feel rigid, its methodical pace complements the game's focus on survival and exploration, rewarding patience over recklessness. The companion elk is among the game's most memorable mechanics. Instead of functioning as a disposable transportation tool, the animal possesses its own personality and must be cared for throughout the journey. Feeding and petting the elk strengthens the relationship before it willingly allows Ada to ride it, adding an emotional layer rarely seen in similar games. This relationship transforms the companion into an important part of both gameplay and storytelling. Alongside the elk, players also encounter numerous fully voiced NPCs who provide lore, equipment, useful items, and hints about the world's history, making exploration feel meaningful without overwhelming the player with constant dialogue. Character progression also avoids traditional RPG conventions. Instead of manually assigning attribute points after leveling up, Decay of Logos features an automated progression system that adapts to the player's actions. Statistics improve based on how the player interacts with the world, whether through defeating enemies, discovering hidden chests, solving environmental mechanisms, or exploring new areas. This encourages a more organic style of progression that reflects individual playstyles while allowing players to focus on the adventure itself instead of managing complicated character builds. Equipment remains important, with Ada's appearance changing visibly according to the gear she equips, while her animations even reflect her physical condition, reinforcing the game's commitment to immersion. Visually, Decay of Logos delivers an attractive fantasy setting filled with colorful landscapes and distinctive architecture. The environments successfully capture a feeling of mystery and forgotten history, with ancient structures, dense forests, and atmospheric lighting helping establish a believable world that constantly invites exploration. Creature designs are equally imaginative, balancing realism with fantasy influences to create memorable encounters throughout the campaign. The soundtrack complements these environments with appropriately atmospheric music that reinforces both quiet exploration and tense combat sequences. Although the visuals occasionally reveal technical limitations expected from a smaller independent studio, the artistic direction consistently carries the experience and creates a world worth exploring. The game is not without shortcomings. Its ambitious scope occasionally exposes technical rough edges, including inconsistent animations, camera frustrations during certain battles, and gameplay systems that sometimes feel less polished than their inspirations. Navigation can become confusing due to the intentionally minimal guidance, and the demanding combat may discourage players looking for a more accessible action RPG. The overall reception has reflected this divide, with players praising the game's atmosphere, exploration, and originality while criticizing aspects of its execution and technical polish. Even so, those willing to overlook these imperfections may discover an adventure with a distinctive identity and genuine passion behind its design. Ultimately, Decay of Logos succeeds as an ambitious independent fantasy adventure that values exploration, environmental storytelling, and meaningful companionship over conventional RPG conveniences. Its interconnected world, challenging encounters, unique progression system, and heartfelt relationship between Ada and her mystical elk create memorable moments that distinguish it from many other action RPGs. While technical limitations and uneven execution prevent it from fully realizing every one of its ambitious ideas, the game's willingness to trust players, reward curiosity, and present a mysterious world without excessive hand-holding makes it a worthwhile experience for fans of exploration-focused adventures and soulslike action games. For players who appreciate atmospheric worlds and challenging journeys more than constant guidance, Decay of Logos offers an engaging and often rewarding adventure despite its flaws. Rating: 6/10
