-= 12/20 =-
Recommended for fans of turn-based, battle racers, and deckbuilders. Sort of a mash-up of Rock N Roll Racing with Slay the Spire. A great idea and fairly well executed. This demo version is short but well polished. +Visuals, art style +Music +Voiced intro, cinematic +Cards gained through car parts +Variety of car parts/cards +Free demo -No dialogue/character voices -Some balance issues -Very short, ~20-30min
Would be a 'yes' but the demo concludes with a screen with no options to leave it but clicking the 'buy now' button. I refuse to support any game with that practice- sucks too 'cause I actually liked the demo.
Poor demo for what may be an ok game. Also don't be douchebags and have the "Buy now" button be the only way to exit after the demo ends, you may not have to continue the purchase, but it makes you come across like you're a scammy mobile game company.
Was excited to play this. Enjoy deck-building games and it has an old school road rash, but tactical, feel to it... Unfortunately there isn't enough in this free version to convey what true gameplay would be like. Half tempted to try the full version, but that would only be in the hope that i could claim a refund if it wasn't as expected after an hour playtime or something (per steams refund policy). Main issues from what I've seen - Deck-building seems pretty light/generic. The demo definitely doesn't help this perception as it is extremely light with this aspect of the game, but it does lead me to believe that the full game wont be magnitudes better. The game is a deck-builder after all and the demo barely goes into any depth. Appreciate that this is still in early access, but suspect there are quite a few fundamental issues with the coding. there were some lag spikes which really shouldn't be happening, so i suspect the game will end up crashing a lot. Finally, the end screen has no exit options, just a buy me now button which isn't good practice. It feels like this is more of a money grab before the game gets released as a free to play on android or something like that.
Cool concept but everything feels short. My main issue is not having enough mechanics and card types to support different playstyles. Basicaly, in every combat situation your main goal is to move into the position and use proper damage cards - repeat untill all enemies are dead. It suits game theme but makes me feel nothing. I've seen some longplay footage, and full game basicaly repeats same issues I have with the prologue. This game feels like early access title that still needs 90% of the content...but nope, this is v. 1.0 full release. Really ????? If this was collectible multiplayer title with years of update to support, it could be a big hit. It's alright... I guess. Cute little game you're going to forget in two days.
Death Roads: Tournament Prologue - Steam Review #96 By HyPo Hawking Rating : 4/10 I know this is like a trial for the full game but they should have made a demo instead, in my eyes a prologue is a prequel to a game or extra content with a beginning and an end. When i died on the boss and i saw it wanted me to buy the full game i realized this is not what i perceive as a prologue. I had fun with the game, i liked using cards and i liked how the more i played the more tactical i had to get, which i found a lot of fun. I mean this game and its concept have a lot of potential and i of course wishlisted the full game since when it comes out of early access one day i hope to play it until the end. From what i played this is a fun roquelike with cards and a nice twist to car combat. My rating is mostly based that this prologue is not either a prequel or something new to get the player hooked on the game, like content exclusive to the prologue the full game wont have, i might be wrong but i think the game and its concept are good, like a 5/10 or 6/10 and the potential for the full game is like a 6.5/10 to an 8/10. All depends how the game ends up being done in the long run. From what i played in the prologue i had fun, but i have to treat it as i perceive a prologue to be and what i expect out of a prologue, this game would normally be like a 6/10 but for the sake of giving my honest thoughts and following my review codex , it gets a 4/10 because the prologue was done like a demo and not an actual way i described in the review on how i want and expect a prologue to be. My playtime might have been short but it was enough to make me be like, i want to check this out one day when a full release hits. Wishing all the best to the developers of this game and i hope they deliver a fun game on a full 1.0 release.
