Death Point is a classic stealth-action, which not only should inspire player but also surprise him. At first glance, you get almost traditional game, tightly staffed with hard levels and various tasks. Instead you are immersed in a different world, fully associating yourself with the main character.

Played for 4 chapters if anybody's interested. No saves, checkpoints are retarded. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IfTEXum7ChI
I went into the game with low expectations, and i was pleasantly surprised. Yes, the game is trash, but it's fun trash. However, i both predicted the ending and was confused by it. The last level ends with the sort've fizzle you would expect from an indie game where story was clearly an afterthought, and actually left me annoyed.
Death Point seems to me like it was inspired by original Metal Gear Solid. Viewpoint and certain mechanics are similar, but basically none of them are on the same level as MGS's that came over 20 years ago. You have quite original arsenal with pistol, shotgun, smg and then gadgets like smoke/flashgrenades, claymores etc to use. Variety of them and how they work is quite fine, along with ability to sneak kill and strangle enemies and move their bodies to a hiding place so enemies can't find them while patrolling. All over it seemed quite fine visually and as an idea to have a silent or more direct approach, but character you play as is quite clunky to control and when alert is raised soon enemies will beeline to your last known location, though it's possible to hide inside closets or behind of higher objects in level. Think this game would have been so much better, but in the end some level designs, bugs, dropping in layers from maps, horrible over flirting dialogue which you could turn off as they themselves probably thought that it's not so good considering it will repeat over and over again if you fail or die. Some turret sections, zombies and other stuff that didn't fit so well at parts. At points game wants you to go silent and not get caught while in others it says "here's a shotgun KILL EM ALL". So it feels bit inconsistent at what it does considering in all of the other stuff. Map and level selection feels very mobile like and challenges don't work at parts like neither do the achievements that are included for them. This could have been a good game with more polish, taking out the bugs, taking dialogue out or improving it, making gameplay and gun control more fluid, improving on level design and not having zombies or beelining enemies.
Fun little stealth game like an old Metal Gear style. Its worth the price, but is it worth your time with all the soild stealth games available??? It is hard, slow paced and has some flaws with AI etc but if you like stealth it could be of interest. Im at the 7th level (of 12 it says, so about 8 hrs of gameplay or more since it gets very hard) . I will say Filthy Lucre, while different is more deep, but this decent too. +Good price +Graphics are decent. +Gamepad supported. +Hiding bodies, hide in lockers. +Nice ways of seeing around corners/other side of doors (focus & footsteps) +/-Feels a bit linear with limited freedom for this type of game, with may set paths. +/- AI is passable (threw bottles and didn't lure even hit them at times and no reaction) +/- Checkpoint saves -Annoying cheesey radio conversations each time repeat level, can skip some tho. 8.0 based on price and if u like stealth. Worth the price, but may not be worth your limited time since many better stealth games to play first tho.
Since I could see some effort was put into the environments and mechaics I wanted to like the game but ultimately can't and will request a refund after posting this review. The biggest issue with the game is the way it handles the visibility of your environment and enemies. If you closely look at the screenshots you'll notice that only the area the character can see is visible to you even though the game is isometric. So any adjacent room or corner is invisible unless you move so that it's in your eyesight. To counter this you can see enemy footsteps but if an enemy isn't moving there's no way to know the enemy is there unless you use a certain gadget in the third level. This gadget shows you where all the enemies are in the general area but is tied to an energy pool that regenerates slower than it depletes. As a result it's easy to run into enemies and cameras, half the challenge is working out where your enemies are before you can even think of working out their patrol patterns or the best way to sneak around them. Most isometric stealth games at the very least give you full visibility of the room you're in, and that's for a good reason, any decent stealth game needs to give the player good visibility to make sneaking possible. If this issue was resolved or the gadget to see through walls could be used for significantly longer, Death Point may be a okay stealth action game, but this issue makes gameplay frustrating to the point it breaks stealth. If the lack of visibility doesn't sound like a problem to you, then you may find some enjoyment in it. Otherwise there's not much unique about Death Point save for some of the most cringiest dialouge I've heard in a game, where our main character who's just escaped prison, has most of his lines consisting of hitting on his female support unit on the radio.
A stealth puzzle game, where you mostly just bypass one encounter, then the next encounter, and so on, like this one, really needs a quicksave system in order to be any fun. Sparse checkpoints get really annoying when you've figured out how to take two minutes to deal with seven guards, and it's only still interesting to work out a way to deal with the eighth. Until that particular brand of frustration I can't stand, it seemed like this was actually going to be a pretty good game.
I changed my mind ;-) After my initial review with a thumbs down, I wanted to add some cooments and change to thumbs up. After some struggle and anger with this game initially, there's one interresting fact - I continued playing and in fact still do play that game. :-) I also appreciated, that the developpers are responsive and get stuff fixed. While I got used the fact you can't reload checkpoints once you quit the game, it gave me lots of opinions to go through the same (rather long) levels more than 10 times..... I vote for a way to save and reload checkpoints. Regards, netwho ------------------------------- Initial review: I really hate this game - As much as a love it! + Great game play, challenging but you won't give up. + Good graphics + good sound - A bit short, though the price is OK. I hope there will be some DLC's in the future. - Not able to save inside a mission! Sometimes you'll play 10 times the same 15 minutes to get to the point you were failing. - Known BUG: You can't continue a game in the "engineering level" - The game freezes... Theres no workaround except the continue from a all ready finished mission (from scratch) I stopped playing and wait for the patch (and may be revise my review). Cheers
Отличная стелс игра!! Iз
Update 2: Wow. They've somehow found a way to inject
zombies AND artificial intelligence
into the game. The writing doesn't get any better at all. For the whole game, the game's sole dialogue is bad flirting. It makes absolutely no sense. The ending is also pretty bad and seems like a "twist" for the sake of it, which also relieves the writer of thinking about any backstory or world-building whatsoever. The gameplay is... well, the "main" playstyle is rambo style. There isn't much tricking enemies or anything. Most of the "gadgets" are also useless. So you rely on your guns, kill a bunch of enemies and hide in a corner. That was my experience, anyway. The game forces you to fight and run through cameras all the time (I [bold]mean[/bold] force - no multiple paths). There are also some bugs on the last level. The game does well to include two bonus "challenges" in each level such as not being detected, not using certain weapons, etc. The game severly lacks any actual objectives within the levels, though. It's colored card hunting. That's it. You run from A to B to C until the exit. As I said, the game looks pretty good. That's about it, though. There's barely anything worth playing, here. It's a working stealth game, I suppose, but there's nothing here that you haven't seen in 99% of other stealth games, so why bother? ---- Update: Ok, I'll update stuff at the top since I doubt anyone will read what's at the bottom. The game's cone of sight doesn't work as it should - and it's a real problem. Aside from it looking like shadows popping in and out all over the place (ruining what's otherwise a very nice looking game, I'll say), it's also .. wrong. See, what they want to do is to gray out the areas the player can't see, and make enemies disappear. The problem is when there are "gaps". You can be looking exactly at an enemy, but the model will not be drawn if the gap is on the right place. This means you *should* see a bit of the model, through the gap, but you don't. (Technical detail: it can be fixed by using a stencil to draw the shadow areas and drawing the models where there aren't shadows? You seem to know graphics much more than I do, so I assume it's an oversight) This is especially annoying since in this level I can't use the "scanner", which tells me enemy positions. It seems the ideal place to use small gaps as a game mechanic... but it's not working correctly so yeah. ___ Played very little so far, but it starts badly. (1) The dialogue is really terrible. You're a big badass secret operator who was beaten and lost memory. Then you have a female partner with a big opening to show cleavage with whom you immediately start flirting with despite being in a life and death operation. It doesn't help that the flirting is very bad either. (2) The game shows only keyboard prompts. But it doesn't accept keyboard controls if you have a controller plugged in at all... (3) The field of vision looks a lot like shadows. And it is drawn incorrectly. Sometimes it's a bug when you get close to the wall. Other times it's simply because the field of vision decreases the closer you are to the bars? (This is probably some projection issue, using light-like projection to do vision...) The game looks pretty good, visually. But the writing is really, really, bad. I mean, it's only hurting the game, there's no positive there. Nor is it really relevant, so far. So it's just bad and has no reason to exist. I'll play a bit more. If the missions don't get better, I'll probably drop it altogether.
