Kind a short but great and good roguelike deck builder game. This game is based on previous Deal of the dead which is available for free in itch.io. The graphics improved, new systems added, campaign added so much changes are here. Great game, great job, can't wait for your another games coming up!
It's an interesting idea and I feel like I got $3 worth of entertainment out of it but there's a fair amount of obvious visual jank like ui elements not lining up in full screen and scenarios where that come down more to rng luck than strategy.
Card based zombie game you say? Awesome! Interesting item management? Cool enough. Deal of the Dead? Meh at best. Good idea but suffers from far too much RNG and no real skill or long term play. Inventory and controls are not particularly clear and parts are not explained (for example, guns unload the whole magazine for no reason to kill one enemy and dragging the survivor onto an enemy expends both but dragging the enemy onto the survivor hurts their individual health and you keep the survivor if they still have health). The story is non-existent and the text that is meant to convey some sort of story is meaningless and tells next to nothing plotwise. I would play a game with a similar premise, but this game was pure RNG and took me 70 minutes to finish. Not really worth it to me. Price is reasonable in my opinion.
[strike]Currently cannot recommend due to the fact that fullscreen mode will screw up the resolution and there's no way to convert it back to windowed mode.[/strike] 12-25-25: Uploaded it after updating a bunch of drivers and IT WORKED! It's a simple card game, kill the zombies, survive to the chopper and don't get bit. Very light and straightforward choices makes this a nice filler game when you're bored.
As a big fan of solitaire/single player card games and survival horror, this hit the mark for me. The base rules are fairly simple. You have one survivor card slot, one player character slot, and two equipment slots (one hand that you can use, and one bag for holding). There are 4 encounter cards you have to handle, and once three of them are handled, three new cards are dealt out. The encounter cards can be enemies, survivors (allies), weapon, or health. When you get a new location card it normally clears the encounter cards and you begin a new. Now for some of the cons of the game. The tutorial doesn't do an amazing job teaching you all the rules, and specifically the card effects. For instance, the shotgun will damage all enemies, but there's pretty much no way to find this out besides just using the card. I believe the icon on the card implies this, but no where in the game is it written down. Another key mechanic is that if you drag a survivor to an enemy, the survivor will deal max damage to the enemy, but the player won't eat any left over damage. However, if you drag an enemy to a survivor, survivor will deal max damage, but left over damage will go to the player (however, *this* will kill the enemy). I only figured this out through trial and error. There are also some rules that I still do not get, despite having beaten the game. Like, what is the purpose of equipping a survivor with a weapon? It doesn't seem to do anything, besides handling an encounter card. Besides all that, I really feel this game has a lot of potential. I crushed through the story mode in about 70 minutes or so and I have to say, the challenge mode you unlock is what this game should have been from the start. The decks are in pre-determined order in challenge mode and there are specific tasks you have to complete for each mission. This turns the game into more of a puzzle game and removes the RNG factor that some other reviews complain about. There's also a free play mode you unlock Where you can set up a bunch of parameters before battling out a deck. Overall, I've had a lot of fun with this game so far and it's very much worth it with the extremely cheap asking price. I believe a lot of these negative reviews would get resolved with a better tutorial or even an instructions page that explained all the rules and icons. In any case, I can definitely recommend this game!
The game randomly crashes. Without warning it freezes and then completely closes the game. ??? any fix or suggestion?
Much better than Director's Cut but needs polish to be really great. [Campaign fixes]: Next levels should remember equipment from previous ones. Something like L4D director needed cuz level complete question is random (0,1). [UI fixes]: Option to disable lighting strike flashbang, borderless fullscreen, walkie-talkie makes "???". [Needed to add]: Survivor can hold items and swap between items like player does. If survivor equipped with a gun you can find ammo to it not only ones carried by player. Teammate deals damage as weapon holded, he don't have to die, just unarm him. Keep something valuable behind locked areas. Due to only medkit cure infection, infection should do 1 damage per 2 turns or be neutrolised for 1 turn with food. [Ideas]: Teammate becomes zombie if dies of infection. Survivor classes give/get bonuses to heal/dmg/loot chance (nurse gives auto-regen, policeman deals additional damage with guns, firefighter invincible to molotov. Last one is useless but you get the idea.) Hidden achievements like feed puppy.
I love all solitaire type games and this one is a hidden gem! To the dev, keep up the great work. These style of games are needed!
Used to play director's cut a lot, this game is completely different than that in a positive way, very glad to see how this game improved and honestly didn't expect to see it on steam but here we are.
Deal of the Dead is a quite interested card game with some terrific art. Definitely ramps up in difficulty as you go but is still pretty casual to play. The RNG makes some runs almost impossible to finish but that may be more my choices along the way too. The only thing I would change is that a survivor with a weapon would just use the weapon instead of both the weapon and survivor card but that's an incredibly minor thing. Definitely check this game out!
