I'm having a lot of fun with this one. The gunplay feels good. I don't think they deserve the negative reviews just because they are making a sequal.

Honestly a really fun game that respected my limited time with it. Each zone feels distinct, with a mix of similar and different enemies. One thing this game really leans into compared to a lot of rogue-lites is the feeling of absolute power you can achieve. Finishing the game the first time, I was shredding corridors full of enemies like I was Doom Guy. It is very satisfying. The weapon variety is very nice as well. I do think the sequel could benefit from adding heavier weapons, however. You aren't getting rocket launchers, grenade launchers, etc. Which, to be honest, is a good thing in this game. The zones are tight and don't allow for explosive play much. On the subject of the sequel, which seems obligatory to mention now, I don't personally have a problem with it after finishing the first game and seeing footage of the second. Anyone who has finished the game would probably agree that making the sequel a DLC really isn't ideal. The assets that could be used are... not bad, but a bit rudimentary. I also respect them not wanting to alter the current balance of the first game, which has been so often done in other games, such as Helldivers 2, Diablo IV, Stellaris, etc. Sometimes it's nice to leave things in a good place and stop. I do agree that the track record of the devs does inject a certain amount of bad faith that they will have to overcome to gain trust back from consumers. It won't be from one good sequel either. I do hope the sequel is fantastic though.
Solid game. A lot of replayability. I've put most of my hours in doing runs with a friend and I can't say I regret any of it. Highly recommend for those who like rogue lite games.
