Dead Space

This was my introduction to the Survival Horror genre and it couldn't have hooked me any better. I played on hard and it always feels like resources are scarce and that every shot counted which really adds to the involvement of the game. In fact, this game is so good that I have beat it 3 times and almost 100% it. :)

good gameplay and the lore and story shall keep you hooked once you get past 2 hour mark and it will throw a jumpscare at you after every 5 mins

I am writing this mostly for myself to remember. If you like this type o game, you may safely ignore this review. Controls feel like ♥♥♥♥, the characters look realistic, but handle worse than me irl. I am apparently the only one smart enough to put on my suit, but screw taking a starting weapon when everyone else in the crew has one. Feels like it wants to be an immersive sim with the ammo pickups etc, but no jump button of proper environment exploration. Optimization seems ♥♥♥♥? For some reason my graphics card is overloaded on minimal setting while producing graphics from 2012. Might be a Linux Issue, but its what I'm using. Tropified af, and the horror jut does not hit because I've seen to much of it. Enemy is introduced while you are watching from behind fortified glass windows. First time you enter the elevator an enemy jumps after you only to get squashed by the doors. The action feels weirdly obscured by how much your character consumes screen space.

Never finished the original, but with a deep discount I grabbed this and decided to revisit. Great remake, glad I finally played all the way through. Only real gripe is that performance is a stutter-fest, which is a minor distraction through the entire game. Nothing game breaking, except on my handheld linux PC where the game frequently freezes for several seconds and even crashes, despite otherwise looking and running great there too.
