Dark Tales: Edgar Allan Poe's The Gold Bug Collector's Edition

This series seems to follow the plots of Edgar Allen Poe’s stories. Of course, with you and a Detective involved. In this one you have to save/protect a man who believes he has uncovered the location of Captain Kidd’s treasure. HO scenes are fun, minigames challenging, and the plot engaging. Recommend in the bundle, just for ease of purchase.

That fisherman is a lying, cheating bastard. It was him all along, I don't care what the narrator, the detective, or the ending said. Good-for-nothing, bootless bootlicker.

I have always been a fan of Edgar Allan Poe Stories, It is very difficult at this time with the pandemic to take your mind of the worries of each day. I am 49 years old and take comfort that there is games that have a story and puzzles and easy to hard difficulties. For those adult gamers it is worth paying for some break from reality

冲着爱伦坡买的。美术音乐都不错，解密也挺有趣。就是解密跟原小说没啥关系。另外，没有中文，记住了好多生僻单词，也值了。

Sooooo gut!!! Ich weiß, ich weiß,....das Spiel ist nicht besonders schwer zu spielen. Aber, .....es ist super abwechslungsreich!! Keine aneinandergereihten WM, sondern gut erdachte Kombirätsel. Und erst der Hund....!!! Super nett ausgedacht. Probiert es aus, es ist sein Geld wert. Und ich als "Poe-Fan" musste es natürlich in meine Sammlung holen. Hinreißend!!!

The plot about treasure hunt isn't nearly as interesting as the series' usual forray into murders, but the gameplay makes up for that. 8/10

Crashed three times but I did manage to complete the main game. Story is average, locks are rather nonsensical and hitboxes are small with some of the HOG items being named oddly (ex. "cone" for a pine cone.) Voice acting is the highlight, but because it's so badly recorded it's funny. A few of the voiced characters sound like they're locked in basements. The voice actors themselves did 110% acting, to the point that I laughed multiple times and grinned a lot listening to them. I would fully recommend the game if not for the crashing issue.

Good puzzles, not so hard that you have to ask for hints all of the time. Fun!

Pick it up if it's on sale. Charming little game. It's fun with only one particularly hard puzzle (a mahjong game with only one solution). There's an in-game guide if you need it. The game crashes at three points; it's the nature of old games. No progress is lost though.

Somewhat disappointing mix of point-and-click adventure, mini games and hidden object searches. While the hidden object segments are fine, the mini games vary a lot in quality, and the adventure gameplay is rather poor, with most "puzzles" just involving finding obvious "keys" in often highly illogical places, often to access places that, in-universe, have no logical reason to be inaccessible. The connection to the original Poe story is also nearly non-existent, with the two only really having the name of one character and the ultimate end goal in common. I've played Yellow Room from the same publisher before, and that was a much better designed and far more enjoyable game. I know they can do better than this.
