Dark Parables is one of the BEST HOP game series I have run across and by far one of the most fun. I own almost the entire collection to date and would love to continue adding to my library. Buy the bundle or when they're on sale and you will literally have HOURS of fun. Each of these games takes me roughly 6 hours. Well worth it!
Excellent story, gorgeous as always. I do miss the quick travel which is missing here.
Dark Parables #14. (Please note, DP #13 is not available on Steam.) A series of fragmented object games with puzzles and stories that each stand alone, but are also interconnected in the form of recurring characters. But each game tells its own story and they can technically be played in any order. Despite being one of the later games in the series, there is no fast travel. There are achievements within the game but they don't show up on Steam. Also, you can only see what they are when you unlock them, so some might remain a mystery. There are also collectibles that unlock lore. The story for this game is one of the best in the whole series, though elements of it are quite sad. But it's not called "Dark" Parables for nothing. There are not technically any recurring characters but there is a strong connection to The Frog Prince and Ivy Green.
Decent HOG. Runs perfectly on Linux Mint with Proton as of the date of this review.
I wish I could give this a neutral rating but as I can't then on balance I'd have to say yes, it's worth playing, but with the caveat that you skip most of the puzzles. The puzzles are not difficult but they take a long time to complete and are repeated multiple times with a slightly different skin on them. There could have been half as many puzzles and the game would have been more fun for it. In fact, the game as a whole overstays its' welcome by several hours. It's clear that the developers ran out of ideas half way through but instead of just trimming the game down to a more reasonable length they padded it out with re-used puzzles and telling the same bit of story in half a dozen different ways., to the point that when the characters finally start some kind of meaningful exposition you already know everything they are telling you. Sometimes more is not better; people would do well to remember that.
