I tried the game and quite frankly, it was a massive disappointment. The gameplay was terrible and rough, the enemies were either way too easy or just flat-out annoying, and the level design overall was some of the worst I’ve ever seen. And don’t even talk to me about the final boss of Level 3—hands down one of the worst bosses ever created in gaming history. I really tried to give it a fair shot, pushed through hoping it would get better… but nope. Just a complete frustration from beginning to end.

If there’s one word to describe Dark Honor, it’s rewarding. This Souls-like adventure doesn’t just challenge you—it forces you to adapt, improve, and truly earn every victory. And I loved every brutal, heart-pounding moment. Gameplay True to its Souls-like roots, Dark Honor thrives on punishing yet addictive combat. Every encounter, from the smallest enemy to the towering bosses, demands precision, timing, and patience. The weighty, deliberate combat feels incredibly satisfying—every dodge, parry, and counterstrike is a deliberate choice, and when you nail it, the payoff is huge. The progression system strikes a perfect balance. Leveling up and upgrading gear feels impactful without making the game any easier. You’re not overpowered—you’re just better prepared for the next harrowing challenge. And the interconnected level design? It’s a masterpiece, with hidden shortcuts and secrets that constantly make you rethink how the world is pieced together. Story and Lore Dark Honor doesn’t spoon-feed you its narrative, and that’s part of its brilliance. Through cryptic NPCs, atmospheric environments, and detailed item descriptions, the game weaves a tale of betrayal, redemption, and a crumbling world grasping for hope. Piecing together the fragmented lore is like unraveling a dark puzzle, and every revelation is more satisfying than the last. Graphics and Atmosphere The world of Dark Honor is as oppressive as it is breathtaking. From decayed castles to cursed forests and hellish underworlds, every environment oozes personality and dread. The attention to detail is astounding—every ruin, every blood-stained battlefield tells a story of its own. The sound design elevates the atmosphere even further. The haunting soundtrack swells during climactic moments, and the subtle ambient noises (like the distant clank of armor or the whispers of unseen foes) keep you constantly on edge. Difficulty and Accessibility Let’s be clear: Dark Honor is hard—but it’s fair. The game punishes recklessness but rewards careful planning and skillful execution. Death isn’t failure; it’s a lesson, and each retry brings you closer to mastery. While it doesn’t shy away from its brutal nature, it offers quality-of-life features like customizable controls and clear visual cues that help even newcomers to the genre find their footing. Final Thoughts Dark Honor isn’t just a game—it’s a journey. A journey of struggle, discovery, and triumph that reminds you why we play games in the first place. It’s challenging but never impossible, frustrating yet immensely satisfying. If you’re a fan of Souls-like games, this is an absolute must-play. And if you’re new to the genre, there’s no better place to start. Dark Honor will test your patience, but the joy of victory is worth every ounce of pain. Rating: 9/10 The honor may be dark, but the experience is nothing short of brilliant.

The characters, especially the protagonist, are deeply fleshed out with compelling backstories that draw you in emotionally. The cultural inspiration is vivid and adds a unique flavor to the narrative. Gameplay The gameplay is a masterpiece in itself. "Dark Honor" strikes a perfect balance between the challenge of Souls-like games and a meticulously designed combat system that makes every encounter with enemies feel thrilling. From sword strikes to dodging mechanics and intense boss fights, every element is crafted to deliver a sense of accomplishment after each victory. An Outstanding Feat by a Solo Developer What makes "Dark Honor" even more remarkable is that it’s the creation of a single developer from the Arab world! It’s almost unbelievable that a game with this level of polish and attention to detail could be the work of one person. This game stands as a testament to what creativity and passion can achieve. For me, this is the best game to come out of the Middle East to date. Conclusion "Dark Honor" isn’t just a game—it’s an unforgettable journey. If you’re a fan of challenging games that leave a lasting impression, this is a must-play. I can confidently say: if this is the caliber of work from a single Arab developer, then the future of game development in the Middle East is incredibly bright. Final Score: 10/10 Pro Tip: Don’t miss out on this masterpiece!
Honestly, I’m amazed by this game and the fact that it was developed by a solo developer. I highly recommend it! At this price, it’s an incredible value for such a low cost. I feel proud to say that while playing, I got the same feeling as when I played Black Myth: Wukong At launch, the game had many issues, but with the updates that have been released, it is now free of those problems. I waited until the game was fully polished before reviewing it, and to sum it up I would rate it 9/10
Developed by MordeSu studio and published by Mordecai, Dark Honor is an independent dark fantasy action game that embraces a familiar but effective premise: a lone warrior rises from tragedy to seek vengeance against the Samurai clan responsible for destroying his life. From its opening moments, the game establishes a somber atmosphere built around loss, determination, and the harsh realities of a world where survival is earned through perseverance. While the revenge storyline does not reinvent the genre, it provides a solid foundation that keeps players moving forward as they carve a bloody path through dangerous territories in search of justice. The game's strongest asset is its combat system, which clearly draws inspiration from modern Souls-like design philosophies. Every encounter demands patience, as enemies punish careless mistakes and reward players who learn attack patterns and manage their timing effectively. Swordplay carries a satisfying weight, and the inclusion of magical abilities gives battles additional variety beyond simple melee exchanges. Progression feels less about acquiring overwhelming power and more about becoming a better player, mastering evasive maneuvers, and understanding when to strike. This approach gives Dark Honor an appealing sense of accomplishment, especially during its more demanding boss encounters. Exploration is another important pillar of the experience. The world is filled with dark landscapes, ruined structures, and hidden pathways that encourage players to venture off the beaten path. There is a persistent sense of isolation throughout the journey, with environmental design doing much of the storytelling. Rather than relying heavily on exposition, the game allows its atmosphere to communicate the state of its world. The Japanese-inspired fantasy setting helps distinguish it from other indie action titles, blending familiar medieval elements with Samurai influences to create an environment that feels oppressive yet intriguing. Although the scope is modest compared to larger productions, the world remains engaging enough to reward curiosity. Visually, Dark Honor demonstrates considerable ambition for a smaller development team. Its use of lighting and environmental effects contributes significantly to the overall mood, particularly in areas shrouded in darkness or illuminated by faint sources of light. Character models and enemy designs fit the game's grim aesthetic, even if some animations and environmental details occasionally reveal the limitations of its budget. The developers have continued supporting the game through updates, addressing performance concerns and improving overall stability, which speaks positively about their commitment to the project after release. What ultimately makes Dark Honor worthwhile is its understanding of what it wants to be. It doesn't attempt to compete directly with the genre's biggest names, nor does it overwhelm players with unnecessary mechanics. Instead, it focuses on delivering a concise adventure centered on challenging combat, atmospheric exploration, and a straightforward tale of revenge. There are areas where greater enemy variety, deeper storytelling, and additional progression systems could have elevated the experience further, but the game's passion and dedication remain evident throughout. Dark Honor is a respectable entry in the indie action genre that succeeds more through atmosphere and gameplay fundamentals than through innovation. Players who enjoy methodical combat and dark fantasy settings will find an adventure that respects their time while offering a meaningful challenge. Though it falls short of becoming an essential title within the Souls-like space, it remains a commendable effort from MordeSu studio and a testament to what smaller teams can achieve with a clear vision. Rating: 6/10
