Watch out Their coming.
Really intriguing. Like the horror games and this one pretty scary in VR.
Baba Yaga: Looks amazing, pretty darn scary. Absolutely love it. Finders Keepers: Not so great. Needle in a haystack type game. No enemies, just atmosphere. I am disappointed that the game isn't finished on launch. I wanted to play the last one but I guess I'm being punished for purchasing this too early.
Perfect for that wonderful time of the year, Halloween...
Warning: Asset Flip! "Dark Forest: Lost Story VR" is one of literally thousands of creatively bankrupt asset flips/kitbashes infesting Steam and lowering the average quality of all video games everywhere.
"Dark Forest: Lost Story VR" is a basic asset flip, a first person horror adventure game where you get jumpscared by a witch asset. The developer was so creatively bankrupt the even stole the witch image they used on the store page from artwork done by Eszter Hercsik, and put their own name on their work... plagiarism, and copyright infringement too. Worse, this asset flip garbage had a price tag on it... the developer was trying to scam gamers, trying to get YOUR money for other people's game assets. This is never okay. There's no initial download price for this, but that doesn't mean it's worth it given the asset flip nature of this shovelware. When developers can't do their job properly and instead plagiarise the work of others, usually they also lack the technical skills to handle coding, optimization, or game design, or any of the other things real, competent game developers do. "Dark Forest: Lost Story VR" is proof of that. It's garbage. It's VR exclusive, and that shows the developer failed to understand the most basic axiom of VR game design... if the only cool thing about your product is VR support, your product is not cool. This game is fairly dated at 5 years old... and even back then it looked old and busted compared to contemporary, professionally made 3D games of the same period. It looked bad then, it looks worse now. Now on to pricing and value for gamers. There's no initial download price, but the developer was charging $5 USD for this. Price barriers, especially on low quality products, can be a direct cause of failure. It seems like a nice gesture for the game to have no up-front cost anymore, but it also tells us that the game wasn't good enough to succeed as a paid product. This is also a bit of a slap in the face to anyone who showed enough questionable judgement to pay money for this... nobody got refunded. A peak of 3 concurrent players (according to SteamDB) for a "free" game is a disastrous public reception. Out of 130 million potential players here on Steam, almost nobody was interested. Even though this is "free". That level of rejection speaks a lot for the quality of the game. Given that this free game won't increase your game collector count, is it worth your time to add it to your library? Nope. This is just impossible to recommend to serious gamers. There's no up front price, but I still feel like I got ripped off. Remember what I often say... if you don't agree with what I've said about this game, by all means add it to your library and play it. My review is just here to inform your decision, and if you think I was wrong and you downloaded the game, then I've done what I really wanted to do... inform your decision.
