Cursed 2 is a really good time. Decently short, fun gameplay, unique art style. It is a point-and-click by way of Shadowgate and Deja Vu, with combat sections that are a combination of a first person shooter and a punchout fight with dodging. There's definitely rough edges, it's a small indie dev, but I find them very easy to look past to experience something earnest like this. Getting this to run properly on Linux was a pain. See my ProtonDB entry or my post on the discussion page for a tutorial if you're on Linux.

Cursed 2 is a real mixed bag of a game and it's both a good and at the same time not good sequel to the first game, but anyway the story. It has been a few years since Jennifer got rescued from that cursed mine, one would think after returning back to her family everything in the town would go back to normal, unfortunately not. Ever since Jennifer had returned strange things have happened to the little town, from sightings of strange creatures, to people disappearing and the town folk who didn't disappear just decided to leave, now abandoned no one dares go there except for a man named Randall, why because he blames himself for what's happened for he was there with Jennifer on that day when she went down to that mine. So the young man heads back to his home town to rescue his best friend, something he should have done a long time ago. Now then likes, the story is really good like the first game this story takes inspiration from other works of horror like Salem's lot and the story also expands on the original story of the first game, answering a lot of questions and presenting a lot of interesting twists and turns. The gameplay is a mixed bag on the one hand not only does it do more than the previous game, it all so expands on a few things particularly the combat and puzzles although that can sometimes be to its own detriment. It also gives a big incentive to exploration having this sort of semi open world as you explore different parts of the town in order to solve puzzles, gather items to solve other puzzles or just advancing in the story, we also have a car we can drive, although I didn't really care for it but I'll get to all that in the dislikes. The graphics are good and still just as good like the first game I love the Retro aesthetic, in fact I feel like in certain ways it improved a bit while still keeping that sort of classic newgrounds charm. The levels are really good we get to explore the town and see different areas from a church, to the bar and even Jennifer's house it was good getting to see more of the town, even if it was just little places like that. The characters are good, even those they're there to serve the plot it's good that we get a little bit more on Jennifer and her friend, but I do feel like more could have been done with them character wise, but that's just me. The enemies and bosses are good each one has their own creepy and disturbing looks, probably two of my favorite bosses are Shell Baby and Mass of faces both had pretty interesting creepy and disturbing designs. The music is good with plenty of great tracks that really set the mood, in fact it's even better than the music in the first game to the point I wish there was a soundtrack DLC. Now is the game scary, well like the first game that is a no, this game is more of an action horror game, but emphasis more on action and I don't mean that as a bad thing or a criticism. Now then dislikes, so the problem with the gameplay is that it just feels like a slog fest especially at the final part of the game to the point where I was like oh come on just end already, what made me feel like that is one the random enemy encounters now the first game had that, but here it's upped even higher and a new combat mechanic dodging and stuff take some getting used too. Also getting to the levels can be a pain in the ass because as I said there's a driving mechanic, problem is when you're driving a lot of the levels/background looks the same except for some twists and turns in the road, it just made it frustrating to navigate even with a map. The maker should have added like signs and maybe abandoned buildings or something to help distinguish the areas better. Or better yet cut out the driving mechanic all together and just have a little car on a map of the area and whatever you click on a building and the car will automatically go there. I also didn't like the inventory system it's way too small. especially when you get big items and it's hard to make room in it, in fact the storage system feels a little half assed if I'm being honest. A lot of the puzzles especially the puzzles that you have to do in order to get the true ending basically sucked, they felt too convoluted and just plain annoying that it felt like it dragged the game on longer. Also can't just sit idly by when there's text because you still are going to have to read quick before it disappears, thankfully the text don't disappear as quickly as the first game’s did, but still you should probably read so you're not missing out on the story. Lastly this game doesn't have any achievements which is weird because this game is just begging for them. Alright then now that I said all that Cursed 2 is a real mixed bag of a game and it's both a good and at the same time not good sequel to the first game, it has a really good story, good graphics and good enemies and bosses. Now do I recommend this game, maybe I mean if you enjoyed the first game and its story you may enjoy this game’s story even better, although I would say to have a lot of patience with the game and make multiple saves and save all the time.
I mean come on man what else is there to say. A free game that 100% should not be free. It has such a unique style and sound scape as well as a pretty solid story. Good rpg mechanics and some very solid combat. For a game made by like 1 dude who abandoned this game back in like 09 only to finish it in like 2018 it's phenomenal. It deserves much more attention. Now tonally it does wish wash a bit from horror to survival horror to more like action but it still manages to be charming and very unique. An easy must play for anyone even contemplating slightly about playing this. Only negative I even have is the save system is like old resident evil where they'll just boot you straight back to your save and there is no auto saving but other than that it's a fantastic game
Scared my balls off multiple times. Very fun and unique combat and leveling system. The driving is a bit of a drag though.
