Lucky me gets to write the first review for CUBE-e, which is a 2D retro pixel puzzle "platformer" from known asset flippers, Piece of Voxel. This is a basic retro pixel puzzle game with a gravity inversion gimmick as you guide a robot through a space station factory thing and solve puzzles like how to put a crate on a switch, ho hum, it's been done to death. They chose to use obsolete retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result. Resolution and controls are locked. These flaws push this game far below minimum acceptable standards for PC. There's also an insulting $10 USD price tag for this garbage. Yeah, $10, the same money that would get you one of hundreds of AAA games on sale. Or this trash. There's no working full screen mode, in fact, if you hit alt+enter, Piece of Voxel actually go out of their way to insult PC gamers by telling you they won't allow you to try switch to full screen, then terminate the game. Insulting your customers is not a winning strategy, but then this is Piece of Voxel, who make a living stealing other people's work and trying to sell it on Steam as a scam. What's that? Oh yes: Piece of Voxel are known asset flippers and have previously taken other developers work and put it on Steam in an attempt to scam gamers and get paid for someone else's effort. An example of Piece of Voxel doing this is Top Truck Driver, which is really "Hill Racing Template", written by the actual developers, Janko Knez. Also, Hoples, which is really "Pixel Adventure 1", developed by Pixel Frog. Asset flips are harmful to the gaming industry. They're nothing but cash grabs, and they harm genuine indie developers by reducing their visibility on Steam. Because this game has all the same low quality as an asset flip, as well as the other problems with it, it's impossible to recommend.

As I am the second review please avoid this game. It is not even a fully developed game and I agree with pretty much everything the other negative review had mentioned...

CUBE-e is an indie platforming adventure developed and published by Piece Of Voxel that embraces simplicity while delivering a surprisingly demanding challenge. Set aboard the Junior 1 Space Station, the game casts players as a small cleaning robot whose routine existence is interrupted by the need to escape a dangerous and malfunctioning environment. Rather than focusing on storytelling or cinematic presentation, the game builds its identity around a single clever gameplay concept and develops its entire experience around that idea. At the center of the gameplay is the ability to manipulate gravity. The robot can move left and right, but survival depends on switching gravity at the correct moment to navigate hazards, reach inaccessible platforms, and solve environmental challenges. This mechanic transforms even the simplest stages into exercises in timing and precision. Every movement feels deliberate, requiring players to think ahead rather than simply react. The gravity system is easy to understand from the beginning, yet it creates enough complexity to remain engaging throughout the game. The space station is filled with threats that constantly test the player's reflexes. Dangerous saws, lasers, explosive objects, and various traps stand between the robot and freedom. The level design takes advantage of these hazards by combining them with gravity-switching puzzles, creating situations where one wrong move can instantly end a run. The game encourages learning through repetition, and each failure provides valuable information about how to tackle the next attempt. While the challenge can occasionally feel unforgiving, overcoming difficult sections delivers a satisfying sense of accomplishment. An interesting addition to the formula is the battery management system. Since the robot requires power to continue functioning, players must search for batteries hidden throughout the levels. This mechanic adds a layer of exploration that prevents the game from becoming a straightforward obstacle course. Players are not only focused on surviving hazards but also on finding the resources necessary to continue progressing. The constant need to monitor energy levels creates tension and encourages careful route planning. One of the defining features of CUBE-e is its commitment to high-stakes gameplay. The robot effectively has a single life, meaning mistakes are punished severely. This design philosophy clearly targets players who enjoy mastering mechanics through practice and perseverance. The absence of generous checkpoints increases the pressure during every stage and makes successful runs feel more rewarding. However, players who prefer relaxed platforming experiences may find the difficulty level somewhat demanding. Visually, the game adopts a clean and minimalist style that prioritizes gameplay readability. The environments are not especially detailed, but every object serves a clear purpose. Hazards are easy to identify, pathways remain visible, and the futuristic setting provides a suitable backdrop for the robotic protagonist. The presentation reflects the game's independent roots, yet it remains functional and effective. The straightforward graphics help maintain focus on the precision platforming elements that form the heart of the experience. Sound design and atmosphere play a supporting role rather than a dominant one. The game's audio complements the mechanical theme of the space station without distracting from gameplay. Combined with the simple visual presentation, the overall atmosphere reinforces the feeling of being a lone maintenance robot struggling to survive in a hostile environment. While the game does not attempt to create an elaborate narrative world, it succeeds in establishing a clear sense of purpose and progression. CUBE-e may not offer the extensive content, storytelling, or visual spectacle found in larger platforming titles, but it succeeds by remaining focused on its core idea. The gravity-switching mechanic is consistently entertaining, the hazards are thoughtfully arranged, and the battery system introduces meaningful tension. Its compact scope allows it to deliver a concentrated experience that appeals to players who enjoy skill-based challenges and precise movement mechanics. Rating: 5/10
