Cool multiplayer game
Cosmula is a great game, 100% recommend. Not only is it a fun experience flying around in various spaceships blowing up friends or bots, it's more strategic that you think.
My playthrough : https://youtu.be/io6Af4dq710 Overall: 4/10 Maybe fun when playing with friends. Graphics: 4/10 Average • At first, I was VERY confused because the background is static. I thought my ship wasn’t moving at all! It wasn’t until I stopped focusing on the background that the ship's movement started to make sense. Audio: 4/10 Gameplay: ?/10 • I didn’t understand anything at first! It took me five minutes to realize that those "stars" are healing batteries used to restore health by pressing A. • I often couldn’t use my secondary skills. Do they have a cooldown? If so, I couldn’t find where that information was displayed. • Playing with bots wasn’t fun at all, but when I lost to them by just one kill score, I felt a strange mix of competitive excitement and frustration. If I played with friends, it might actually be really fun.
Cosmula is an indie multiplayer space shooter that successfully combines classic arcade-inspired combat with modern progression mechanics. Developed and published by Simply Artizan, the game places players in fast-moving battles across hazardous regions of space, emphasizing quick reflexes, strategic resource management, and mastery of a diverse fleet of spacecraft. While its premise may initially resemble many other arena shooters, Cosmula distinguishes itself through a variety of gameplay systems that add depth and replay value beyond simple ship-to-ship combat. The game's most notable feature is its collection of twelve unique spaceships, each designed with its own strengths, weaknesses, weapons, abilities, and ultimate attacks. Rather than offering minor statistical variations, every vessel feels tailored toward a specific combat approach. Some excel at mobility and harassment tactics, while others focus on durability, heavy damage output, or battlefield control. This diversity encourages experimentation and allows players to develop personalized strategies. The inclusion of individual ship progression further enhances the experience, rewarding continued play with unlockable upgrades and alternate equipment options that can significantly alter a ship's performance. Combat revolves around more than accurate shooting. A central energy system introduces meaningful decision-making during every match. Energy collected during battles can be spent on repairing damage, increasing speed, taking control of enemy turrets, or activating powerful ultimate abilities. Because energy is a limited resource, players must constantly evaluate whether to invest in survival, offense, or tactical advantages. This system creates a satisfying balance between action and strategy, ensuring that success depends on more than raw mechanical skill. The battlefields themselves contribute heavily to the game's appeal. Maps are procedurally generated and filled with environmental dangers such as asteroid fields, explosive hazards, hostile defenses, wormholes, electrical anomalies, and time-altering zones. These features make every encounter feel slightly different and prevent players from relying solely on memorized routes or strategies. Environmental awareness becomes just as important as weapon accuracy, adding an extra layer of tension and unpredictability to each match. Cosmula also offers several game modes that cater to different preferences. Traditional Deathmatch provides straightforward competitive action, while One Life introduces higher stakes through elimination-style gameplay and shrinking safe zones. Zone Control shifts the focus toward objectives and territory management, rewarding teamwork and strategic positioning. The ability to play these modes against bots, with friends, or in online multiplayer increases accessibility and ensures players can enjoy the game regardless of the size of the active player base. Visually, the game adopts a retro-inspired pixel art style that suits its arcade roots. The graphics prioritize readability over spectacle, making it easy to track projectiles, hazards, and enemy movements during chaotic firefights. Explosions, weapon effects, and environmental elements provide enough visual flair to keep battles exciting without overwhelming the screen. While the presentation may not rival larger-budget space shooters, it effectively supports the gameplay and maintains a distinct identity. Another strength lies in the developer's continued support and willingness to expand the experience. Additional ships, balancing adjustments, new abilities, quality-of-life improvements, and ongoing refinements demonstrate a commitment to keeping the game fresh. For a multiplayer-focused indie title, this type of post-launch attention can significantly improve longevity and player satisfaction. Cosmula is not without shortcomings. Players seeking a strong narrative component, expansive exploration, or large-scale progression systems may find the experience somewhat limited. The game is fundamentally built around repeated arena battles, and enjoyment depends heavily on whether players appreciate competitive gameplay loops. Although the variety of ships and randomized environments help maintain interest, the core structure remains centered on combat-focused matches. Overall, Cosmula delivers an entertaining blend of arcade action and tactical depth. Its diverse ship roster, creative energy mechanics, dynamic environments, and multiple game modes create a package that feels more substantial than many indie arena shooters. While it may not redefine the genre, it succeeds in offering fast-paced, highly replayable space combat that rewards both skill and strategic thinking. Fans of competitive twin-stick shooters and science-fiction arena battles will likely find plenty to enjoy in its energetic and well-designed gameplay systems. Rating: 7/10
