Coonwood is an asymmetrical multiplayer horror experience developed and published by SoloQ that blends survival mechanics, competitive teamwork, and an unusual science fiction premise into something that feels distinct from many traditional entries in the genre. Rather than focusing on familiar horror formulas involving haunted locations or supernatural killers, the game creates conflict through an unlikely battle between a stranded alien and territorial raccoons. The strange concept immediately gives Coonwood its own identity, creating a multiplayer experience built around adaptation, strategy, and unpredictable encounters. The setup begins with an extraterrestrial survivor crashing onto an unfamiliar planet and attempting to stay alive long enough to escape. Unfortunately, survival becomes significantly more difficult when local wildlife refuses to welcome the unexpected visitor. Players either take control of the alien trying to signal for rescue or join the raccoon side determined to prevent that escape from happening. The premise sounds intentionally absurd at first, but the unusual foundation helps create memorable gameplay situations that stand apart from more conventional multiplayer horror games. The core gameplay revolves around asymmetrical objectives where opposing sides approach matches in completely different ways. Players controlling the alien focus on survival and completing tasks necessary for extraction while raccoon players work together to eliminate threats and maintain control of their territory. The difference in objectives creates tension naturally because success depends on intelligent decision-making rather than simply defeating opponents through direct confrontation. Teamwork becomes particularly important for players working together as raccoons. Coordinating movement, controlling territory, and responding quickly to enemy actions often determines victory more than individual performance alone. The cooperative element creates enjoyable moments where planning and communication matter as much as reflexes. Meanwhile, alien players experience a different type of challenge built around isolation and resourcefulness. Being alone against multiple opponents forces careful positioning and smarter risk assessment. One of the game’s stronger ideas comes through its multiple gameplay variations that reshape match dynamics significantly. Different modes alter objectives and power structures, creating opportunities for matches to unfold in very different ways. Some scenarios place greater pressure on survival while others transform the alien into a far more dangerous threat. This shifting balance helps reduce repetition and gives players additional reasons to experiment with different approaches. A separate survival-focused mode introduces more chaotic encounters by removing alliances entirely and allowing participants to compete independently while adapting to unusual abilities and evolving situations. The unpredictability created by shifting circumstances becomes one of Coonwood’s strongest qualities. Matches can quickly change direction depending on player decisions, environmental pressure, and newly acquired advantages. Progression systems add another layer of long-term engagement by allowing players to unlock abilities and strengthen different aspects of their preferred playstyle. Skills remain flexible enough that players can customize approaches instead of feeling restricted by strict character roles. Some may prioritize speed and movement while others build strategies around durability, stealth, or direct confrontation. The ability to experiment encourages replayability and prevents progression from becoming overly rigid. The freedom surrounding customization works particularly well because it complements the game’s asymmetrical design philosophy. Every match can develop differently depending on how players approach objectives and utilize available abilities. Rather than creating one dominant strategy, the progression system supports experimentation and adaptation, helping matches remain fresh over extended sessions. Visually, Coonwood adopts a stylized approach that balances horror atmosphere with a lighter visual tone. The presentation avoids becoming excessively dark while still maintaining enough tension to support its survival mechanics. The unusual art direction reinforces the game’s personality and helps emphasize the unusual premise rather than attempting hyper-realistic horror presentation. One of Coonwood’s biggest strengths lies in its willingness to embrace originality. Multiplayer horror games often rely heavily on familiar formulas, but SoloQ chooses a stranger path built around role asymmetry and unusual conflict scenarios. The result creates moments that feel unpredictable and memorable in ways more traditional designs sometimes struggle to achieve. The game does show some limitations common to multiplayer-focused independent releases. Long-term engagement depends heavily on whether players enjoy repeating the central gameplay loop and experimenting with different strategies. Players searching for extensive narrative progression or large amounts of solo content may find the experience more limited than expected. However, Coonwood succeeds because it fully commits to its unusual concept instead of attempting to imitate larger multiplayer horror titles. The combination of survival mechanics, team coordination, role variation, and flexible progression creates an entertaining experience that rewards adaptation and cooperation. Its unconventional setup becomes one of its greatest strengths rather than simply a novelty. For players who enjoy asymmetrical multiplayer games that reward strategy, teamwork, and improvisation, Coonwood offers an entertaining alternative to more familiar horror experiences. Its strange premise, varied gameplay systems, and emphasis on unpredictable encounters create a multiplayer experience that remains enjoyable precisely because it is willing to do something different.
Cool game, raccoon fall through ground and achievement bugged but I see a good game in the future if you keep working on it.
