The first game's campaign portrays war as something terrible, and you empathize with everyone. In this game, I only completed one mission for the USSR, where they were portrayed as a universal evil. I'm not going to play a game where the USSR bullies the poor Nazis!

While I still consider CoH1 to be a more revolutionary and iconic experience, CoH2 eventually got gud. There's a lot to love about some of the new mechanics and QoL that was added to this sequel. There's also a lot to hate as well. Microtransactions or grinding for commanders, while something to do, is too tedious for casual players. IMHO, this is the best entry in the franchise overall to play currently. An absolute legendary RTS and likely the peak of the IP.
