Warning: AI Slop This game is partially or completely made with talentless, soulless AI generated content.
Color Splash: Mushrooms is yet another construction kit template copy+paste from serial shovelware pushers, Quantum Quiver Games/Blender games/Cute Hannah (the Russians behind this crap use a bunch of fake accounts to mislead gamers and hide their identity). These guys do nothing but copy premade game templates and game tutorials, fill out a few things/stamp out basic levels using the construction kit templates, slap on some basic AI slop images, and dump them on Steam and into cheap nasty shovelware game bundles as cash grabs. Trying to get paid for someone else's game templates, assets... at best, this is shovelware, at worst, it's a scam/cash grab. This is just a really bare bones basic jigsaw puzzle, and you can play these free in a web browser or on mobile phones... so this existing here on Steam as a paid product doesn't represent good value for money for prospective buyers. The "developer" behind this ClickTeam Fusion asset flip has copy + pasted this exact game onto Steam TEN times so far... which is ten too many, so you can see how the pollution works. The Russian developer behind this has spammed over ONE HUNDRED of these very lazy "asset flip" Clickteam Fusion fake games onto Steam, populated with AI slop. This is cancer. Taking this seriously as a game, which nobody should, from a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. There's no option to change the resolution and no useful graphics tweaks. There's no way to ensure this is running at the native resolution of your display. There's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision. The controls can't be customised, which will be an annoyance for many, but it can also render the game unplayable for differently-abled gamers, left handed gamers or gamers using AZERTY or other international keyboard layouts. Some of the defects in the game can be attributed to the choice of using the Clickteam Fusion construction kit - the "No-Code" construction kit that "Anyone can make games with!!". Including, you know, people who aren't game developers. Which is a problem. This is a very poor quality toolset sometimes used by amateur developers as it's free (so they don't have to pay for GameMaker Studio) and doesn't require advanced game development skills, but unfortunately has very limited capabilities (it's arguably worse than GameMaker Studio). Just as you can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear, you can't make a great video game if you use a terrible engine. So it's inappropriate when amateurs try to use these for profit, without any actual, real game development effort taking place. This doesn't result in products that have any real meaningful value for gamers. These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game. The poor quality of this game is reflected by how many people spent time with it. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the game all-time peak player count was only ONE player. That's right, only one person ever played this at a time. When I played this for the purposes of reviewing it, I equalled the peak player count for the game. OUCH. The only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam and well over 130,000 games for gamers to choose from, the overwhelming lack of interest in this low quality game is to be expected. So, should you buy this game? Is this one of the best of the 130,000+ games on Steam? Color Splash: Mushrooms is relatively cheap at $2 USD, but it's not worth it. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, this is impossible to recommend. This is also competing with over 14,000 free games available on Steam, many of them far better than this paid product. The use of AI slop is an insult to gamers and genuine content creators.
Profile Features Limited! Valve have marked this game as "Profile Features Limited" at the time of this review. This is usually caused by poor sales figures and low community acceptance for the game (to date). Until this status changes, this game will not give you +1 to your Game Collector badge count, appear in profile achievements or any other Steam meta-accomplishments, nor can it be displayed in some profile showcases. If these factors are important to you, it may be worth holding off before buying this game.
Color Splash: Mushrooms, developed and published by Quantum Quiver Games, is a light, approachable puzzle game that builds its identity around color recognition and simple interaction. It presents a bright and cheerful environment filled with stylized mushrooms, using its visual theme as the primary hook rather than relying on complex mechanics or narrative depth. From the start, it positions itself as a casual experience meant to be easy to understand and quick to engage with, offering a straightforward loop that prioritizes accessibility over challenge. The gameplay centers on interacting with elements based on their colors, typically requiring players to match, select, or respond to visual cues in order to progress. This core mechanic is immediately intuitive, allowing players to grasp the rules within moments of starting. Each level introduces a layout where color relationships must be identified and acted upon, creating a steady rhythm of observation and response. The simplicity of this system is one of its strengths, as it eliminates the need for lengthy tutorials and allows players to jump directly into the experience. As players advance, the game gradually increases its difficulty by presenting more complex arrangements and requiring quicker recognition of patterns. However, this progression remains subtle, relying on denser configurations and tighter timing rather than introducing new gameplay systems. While this keeps the experience consistent and easy to follow, it also limits the sense of growth, as the challenges feel like variations of the same idea rather than entirely new concepts. Players improve primarily through familiarity and speed rather than learning new mechanics. Visually, the game stands out through its use of bright colors and clean design. The mushroom theme adds a playful and slightly whimsical tone, giving the environments a cohesive identity. Elements are clearly defined, making it easy to distinguish between different colors and objects during gameplay. This clarity is essential for a game that depends on quick visual recognition, and it ensures that players can focus on solving puzzles without confusion. At the same time, the presentation remains largely unchanged throughout, which can make the experience feel visually repetitive over time. The pacing is relaxed and well-suited for short play sessions. Levels are typically brief, allowing players to complete them quickly and move on without significant time investment. There is no pressure from time limits or complex objectives, which makes the game feel calm and accessible. This design works well for casual players or those looking for a low-effort activity, but it also reduces the sense of urgency or excitement that might keep players engaged for longer periods. One of the more noticeable aspects of Color Splash: Mushrooms is its limited scope. The game focuses almost entirely on its central mechanic and does not expand beyond it with additional modes, narrative elements, or significant gameplay variations. This gives it a clear and consistent identity, but it also means that there is little to discover beyond the initial experience. Once players have seen how the puzzles work, there are few surprises left, and the motivation to continue depends largely on personal enjoyment of the core loop. Despite these limitations, the game succeeds in delivering a clean and functional puzzle experience. Its accessibility and visual clarity make it easy to engage with, and the act of solving color-based challenges can be satisfying in short bursts. It does not aim to push the boundaries of the genre, but it provides a dependable and easy-to-understand experience for players who enjoy simple puzzle mechanics. In the end, Color Splash: Mushrooms offers a focused and consistent puzzle experience that prioritizes ease of play and visual appeal. While it lacks the depth and variety needed to sustain long-term engagement, it works well as a casual diversion that can be enjoyed in small doses. For players seeking a relaxed, uncomplicated game built around color-based challenges, it delivers a modest but enjoyable experience. Rating: 6/10
