Combat is just bad...and so janky. To select a different attacks you need to scroll through TWO drop down menus... just terrible design. And apparently the playthrough 'needs' to be all combat or all talk, and doing a mix is a disadvantage. Furthermore the character creation is quite odd, with some attributes being essentially mandatory and thus limiting your choices (e.g. Charisma needs to be high otherwise your max party size is reduced).
I really like the theme and story line, and I also very much enjoy the freedom of choices you have in the game. But sadly this is all negated by the terrible navigation this game has. Maybe it just got too big to navigate the ship properly, but as soon as you leave the "starting area" so many new regions get added to the map screen while the once you came from all but seem to disappear. Now I just keep running in circles trying to find my way back. It seems I have to give up on ever finishing this game that started so promising. Such a shame! Was this game ever play-tested past the first area?
The game is great. It on par with Fallout 1&2 in terms of freedom of choice and number of possible endings. I liked the combat system, good enough. Pleasant graphics, complements the art style to convey atmosphere of gloom, hopelessness, and decay. For those who want a gameplay advise: Do unto others before they do unto you. Negatives: a little short, 40 hours should be enough to 100%. Compared to their previous game, AoD, less choices. Though maybe AoD had too many :)
not an RPG Linear story, more like a book. Maybe a nice nice one but not what I consider a game. You can put points on stats but there´s really only one way to build your char. And... I wasn´t even able to walk anywhere, only to locations to search/talk to people... Sad, my favorite world setting! Ok on sale. But even 20 felt too much sry
Game broke for me. A main quest just screwed up. Went and did some other things saying I will figure out what I am missing later. Turns out its a bug. Im not going back and loosing all that work. Games not bad. Cool world build and good writing. Heavily text based with no voice acting but also a bit clunky. Fun can be had here for sure. The bug just killed it for me. Its been out long enough that should not be excused in such a simple game.
Great game! Really recommend it. Can't wait for the next one!
I will start with the conclusion: an amazing CRPG gem I did not expect. Easy to get into, incredible setting and atmosphere, I wish we get the 2nd installment. Also it made me try Age of Decadence from the same studio, which I am currently playing. 1) World and immersion - the premise of the game is amazing, you are just a dude on a generational colony ship that left a dying Earth hundreds of years ago to react a colonizable planet. After some time, a war broke out on the ship between rebels and the ship managing authority and from that time several antagonistic factions appeared. Everything on the ship is failing and the people are morally garbage. This is post-post-apocalyptic storytelling at its finest. I did a non-combat run and it was amazing, the number of choices is quite impressive and you actually have the feeling you are changing the world. The world seems decently alive with people doing their things (in a more static way but better than other CRPGs I played). 2) Graphics - pretty beautiful game for its scope and budget. 3) Technical polish - game is optimized, I did not encounter any bugs, my only problem with it was the pathfinding, you need to always manage the route your character takes otherwise it is possible it gets stuck somewhere. 4) Main story - main story is pretty cool although you kind of get forced into it a bit suddenly. However, once you get into it, the scope becomes pretty cool and the final discovery is just wow. There are quite a few endings, although I would say there are 3 major ones. The ending slides are a bit disappointing, wish we had more of those about characters and factions. 5) Side stuff - there is so much content aside from the main story. The game has a lot of replayability depending on your choices, sadly quite few are reflected in the ending slides. 6) Writing and dialogue - this is what makes or break a good story. The fact that it is not voice acted might put people off but the characters you meet and companions are pretty interesting, even though maybe not exactly memorable. It is not top tier writing but it is quite good for a 10-20 hour game. 7) General gameplay - on a general note, I try to avoid combat in RPGs. And it is very possible to do so. You can customize your character to be a sweet talker, combat freak, science expert, thief and anything in between. Levelling skills is made by using them (I love that). Generally, your companions can be tailored to cover your own skill gaps. The game is easy to learn, the mechanics are not complex - I would recommend it 100% for somebody who wants to get into the genre. Playing on easy difficulty, the combat was at times challenging (when I had to do it) but probably because my combat skills were very low. The movement is a bit clunky, like I mentioned, you need all the time to micromanage where you go. Also, there is a strange thing where you kinda have to use both mouse buttons alternatively to perform actions but you get used to it. The fast travel mechanic is amazing, finally a game that does not make me run around like a fool to get from here to there. 8) Audio & music - the music manages to convey the grim dark situation on the ship pretty nicely. Otherwise, nothing very special. All in all, I am really looking forward to the sequel (if it will happen).
