Game is great fun! Combat is great fun, cool worldbuilding, great graphics and a good use of unreal engine. Completed one playthrough.
If you value your sanity or like having fun in general, play something else.
Proudly serving 0.003% of the Global Gaming Market since 2015.
I’ve read somewhere that the game’s sales were poor, and there will be no sequel. At least it paid for itself; development didn’t result in financial losses. I get it, you’re building games basically for yourselves and don’t give a damn about other players. Probably the devs have real jobs and this is just a side gig. But are you sure the game is what you envisioned? Because to me it feels half-baked. Game development is a series of compromises, and here there were a lot of them. I didn’t encounter any bugs or crashes, but pathfinding was poor, and companions could block you entirely, like it’s the 90s again, “premier destination for all your hardcore RPG needs.” The UI is functional, but the UX is plain bad. Scarce journal entries, awful inventory, clunky party management. Looting new gear or weapons brought no satisfaction. Stats are split across two separate screens: party management and inventory. The medical machine interface looks great, like a proper terminal, but every other computer is just a bland dialog window. The contrast makes the medical UI feel out of place. Graphics are beautiful and detailed. But you’re stuck in a repurposed cargo ship, not a passenger liner, so expect endless containers, maintenance tunnels, and ugly structures. Cool backgrounds don’t show up until maybe the last third of the game.
Scoobediah, where are ya!
Their debut, The Age of Decadence, was rough around the edges but had a setting and storytelling you could appreciate. Colony Ship also has a unique premise — a generational ship full of Christian fundamentalists searching for a promised land. You’ll see plenty of Maries and Moseses; in character creation you can pick names like Abraham or Zachariah. I went with Scoobediah. You start in a former cargo hall, now called The Pit. The writing is fine at first, but narration is weaker than in the previous game. The world feels static. You wander The Pit, talk to interactable NPCs, there are few random events or interesting encounters, if any. Quests are uninteresting: talk to one guy, fast travel to another, then another, and return. Sure, that’s RPG standard, but here there’s no nuance. Problem, solution, case closed. Quest and dialogs could end abruptly. Exploration is equally dull, with little reward. In The Age of Decadence, narrative immersion was stronger. Walk into a tavern and you’d find a storyteller entertaining local yokels with myths and legends. You could listen, ask questions, and discuss. In Colony Ship, after the mutiny no one, except one person, cares what really happened. Everyone just picked their version of events and moved on, trying to survive. Companion dialogs pop up occasionally, but they’re boring and pointless. Factions aren’t fleshed out. Honestly, I take back what I said about the writing being fine. The script quality has declined compared to the last game. Combat, though, is the worst part. I rarely hate something in a video game, but here I hate this crap with passion. I’m a fan of turn-based combat and dislike real-time-with-pause, but this is one of the worst turn-based systems I’ve ever seen. On par with slavjank like Paradise Cracked, just a different flavor. It’s so bad I wouldn’t be surprised if someone swore off turn-based forever after playing this. Arenas are tiny, tactics nonexistent, cover useless. Move to cover and you’re shot from every direction, no overwatch required. I built a sniper focused on critical hits and regretted it. In most RPGs, that build means squishy but deadly. Here, all weapons deal the same basic damage, no armor-piercing ammo. Miserable. I spec’d into streetwise and avoided combat as a plague. About stats: I didn't tagged any science skills, went all in on speech and sniper. But even after training science with every trainer, skill training machines, and every XP opportunity, I couldn’t raise electronics high enough to unlock certain areas. True to the build, sure, but is it fun though? Not really. There’s also a stealth minigame, which is useless. Occasionally you’re asked if you want to initiate a stealth run. It might help on a couple missions. But you can spec into stealth, avoid cameras and patrols, only to hit a computer skill check that's covered by your companion specialization. Great. Sometimes you’re offered the chance to avoid an encounter, but you can’t, at best you could reposition before battle.
The remaining 99.997% need not apply.
Well, good luck with that approach. I don’t know why they refuse success and choose to remain at hobby-level development. I hoped to see their craft evolve after The Age of Decadence, but aside from pretty visuals, Colony Ship is regression on every other level.
场景看起来很精致,但战斗演出拉跨,并且战斗中不让存档毫无意义,没有人想为关键的一枪90%命中率打空而买单,纯粹是为了让人恼火并浪费时间
Suggested on sale. A good game about an adventurer on a chaotic and massive space ship travelling blind. Kinda a post-apocalyptic as the game has suffered a massive and disastrous mutiny and rebellion so much of the ship is in ruin. the positive: +Interesting and quite unique story that has many twists to it +fascinating scenery +gameplay and gunplay is fun though requires alot of practice. The cons: +scenery although fascinating can be quite limited and you can't explore as much is described. No respawning enemies (i don't mind) or explorable regions. Also you cannot change viewing angle which eats at the complexity of the environment. +gameplay and gunplay can be hard to master and can feel onesided at times. Cover is not always very useful or hard to reach and tactics can seem very limited. The environment seems to be always quite limiting in terms of how it can be used. +Inventory is ok but can feel out of control after a while and its not as easy to compare items as it should be. Shop sellers rarely change there inventory. +Story and NPCs are interesting but they can get confusing and its impossible to review what you just did or the npc you talked to. The NPCs tend not speak to you again after a while. +Environment rarely changes and NPCs can be like statues after initial interactions. It is a fun game and the story is quite fascinating with alot of twists and turns. But ultimatly its hard to recommend due to the issues. It felt rushed in many sections of the game and i feel like alot of content was cut. In comparison to some of Iron Towers games i actually find it a bit better and more fun and easier to play. But its hard to recommend fully. Unless its on sale.
No esta mal el juego, pero deberia tener texto en español
Очередная захватывающая история от студии. Жду вторую часть,если она будет))))
I liked it - didn't finish it, but that's just my thing. Most of my playtime was on GamePass - I cancelled that crap because, well you all know. So decided this game was good enough to buy on Steam, so that says something. If you are in the mood for this sort of thing it really scratches that bleak humanity is it worth it vibe.
Wanted to like this game, I love CRPGS , decent and novel story and graphics are basic but the art style is cool. However combat is simplistic and becomes repetitive, the stealth mechanic is frustrating and requires a specialist character to get anywhere and overall I felt it was very poorly balanced.
I wanna like this game and I do enjoy parts of it but when a game aims for that idea of "You can't win every fight" and "Sometimes you gotta run" you should probably be able to actually have a chance at escaping fights. All this game really has to show in that particular field is just, reload and come back later when you can actually win. I made a stealthy hacker/thief type character who was ok with Pistols, unfortunately the Stealth system isn't really a playable style and more of a contextual addition to combat encounters. Sometimes this allows you to find some tool that will win the encounter, other times it's just there to maybe let you kill 1 or 2 guys. This build however led to me getting stuck as progression was a series of combat encounters it didn't appear I could feasibly win save for RNG showing me mercy. To be fair there are two difficulty options, "Hero" mode which appears to be more of a power fantasy and "Underdog" which wants everything to feel grueling and I chose Underdog. But I really didn't come away feeling like I was the spunky Underdog that could win with the right tools I just felt like a DnD player that made a ♥♥♥♥ build. You also can't change difficulty during gameplay so it's entirely feasible to get a save locked up.
