"Codemancer" is an "educational" Adobe Flash game intended to teach programming. Now... the first thing that comes to mind is that people who can't use actual programming languages and have to use Flash/AIR to make games because they can't program shouldn't be trying to teach other people how to program. Adobe Flash, I am not joking. And they wanted money for this. What do you do in the game? This is one of those "programming simulators" where you are presented with simple hex/grid puzzles which are solved by doing certain moves... but these moves must be provided in a sequence of instructions (hence the programming). This takes the form of assembling blocks with a "magic spell" theme that makes an already confusing concept more confusing! To the point... it would be easier to just teach kids how to program using Scratch or Python or something. Seriously. This does a very poor job of trying to teach anyone anything, and as a game, it's made with Flash, come on. The game features really lacklustre 2D visuals (does the developer not know 3D graphics became mainstream in the mid-1990s?). Gamers don't spend thousands of dollars on gaming rigs and the latest 3D graphics cards to play 2D games. Even mobile phones and game consoles can do 3D graphics now. There's no excuse. This game is fairly dated at 7 years old... and even back then it looked old and busted compared to contemporary, professionally made 3D games of the same period. It looked bad then, it looks worse now. As mentioned, I had to try keep a straight face. This garbage was made with Adobe AIR/Flash, it's basically a 1990's browser/Flash game that's been dumped here on Steam Direct, it's polluting the place with Flash garbage, and that's a real problem. Don't laugh, they seriously published a Flash game on Steam! That's right, this developer was trying to profit from this, they wanted your money for a glorified Flash game. It's appalling, isn't it? Now on to pricing and value for gamers. There's no initial download price, but the developer was charging $10 USD for this. Price barriers, especially on low quality products, can be a direct cause of failure. It seems like a nice gesture for the game to have no up-front cost anymore, but it also tells us that the game wasn't good enough to succeed as a paid product. This is also a bit of a slap in the face to anyone who showed enough questionable judgement to pay money for this... nobody got refunded. Despite having no up-front cost, this failed to appeal to the 130 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB shows this peaked at only 14 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. This "free" game won't count toward your game collection count on your profile. With that in mind, is it something you should still download? I think you should give this one a miss. Although it's free, your time and storage are valuable resources, and the market is filled with superior options. Imagine charging $10 for an Adobe Flash game. WTF.
