The year is 2182, but the engine is from 2003. Join the Falling Falcons in a massive tactical deathmatch RP fest held together by spaghetti code and duct tape. Build bases, perform surgery, or evolve as the Hive. It's laggy, it's complex, and it is the most fun you will have dying in space.
Revenue comes from in-game items and microtransactions, which our price-based model doesn't estimate. Copies below reflect the player base, not paid sales.

About
The year is 2182. High Command has dispatched the USS Almayer to the frontier. You are a member of the Falling Falcons - 2nd Company, 2nd Battalion, 4th Brigade.
Your orders are simple: Respond to an unknown distress signal, secure the colony, and neutralise any threats. But on the rim of known space, nothing is ever simple.
Built on the ancient, accursed, yet still beloved BYOND platform, this isn’t regular SS13; it's a completely overhauled multiplayer roleplay tactical disaster simulator. It looks like a game from the 90s, plays like a milsim from the future, and breaks like a cheap lawnmower.
Whether you are holding the FOB, performing open-heart surgery in a sand pit, or playing a xenonid trying to figure out how to open a door, your actions define the round. Every bullet must be accounted for, every wound requires surgical precision to treat, every host must be incubated, and every order must move down the chain of command.
Massively Multiplayer: Theoretically high player counts allow for full company-scale operations, meaning lots of people screaming over the radio at once or complaining that the Empress is micromanaging the hivemind.
Complex Medical System: Health isn't just a bar. Treat broken bones, internal organ failure, and overdoses. If the xenonids don't kill you, the medic mixing up the labels on the pill bottle might.
Destructible Environments: Blow open walls with C4, weld doors, or burn down the entire jungle because you saw a spider.
Logistics & Command: The war isn't won by shooting alone. It’s won by the shipside support crew, including the Requisitions Officer, who orders the ammo for your rifle, and the Executive Officer, who really didn't mean to accidentally orbital bombard Delta Squad.
Roleplay First: Immerse yourself in the hierarchy. Follow orders, shout tactical info over the radio, and engage in the unique "culture" of the Falling Falcons.
Emergent Storytelling: Will you hide in a locker for 45 minutes as a suvivor? Will you robust a xenonid with a toolbox? Or will you succumb to liver failure after finding the colony's vodka stash?
Corporate Interests: Roleplay as a Liaison from a shadowy company that cares more about the quarterly profit margins than your survival.
Hostile Third Parties: Sometimes it’s insurgents. Sometimes it’s high-tech hunters. Sometimes it’s just the Military Police arresting you for not wearing your helmet.
1. Ancient Technology: This game runs on BYOND. When you click "Play" on Steam, it will install the BYOND requirements for you. Yes, you sometimes will get an popup for Byond Premium when it boots up. Lummox JR has to eat somehow.
2. The Learning Cliff: The controls are not intuitive. You will accidentally shoot your foot. You will drop your gun in the middle of a firefight. You will struggle to open a bag of chips.
The UI looks like the cockpit of a 747-800. Take a moment to read the starter guide, call a Mentor (F1), or just ask the Marine standing next to you how to put your helmet on. We were all bald and confused once.
3. Roleplay Expectations: aka Yes, you have to play as a Character. This is a Medium Roleplay (MRP) environment.
Names: Name your character something believable, not "xx_Headshot_King_xx" or "Obi-Wan Kenobi."
Behaviour: You are a Marine (or a giant bug). Act like one. If you run around griefing your teammates or screaming internet memes in the chat, you will probably hear the dreaded Bwoink. That is one of our volunteer Moderators coming to have a very polite conversation with you about your life choices.
4. The Rules: Read them. They exist to keep the chaos fun, not frustrating. If you break Marine Law, the MPs will arrest you. If you break Server Rules, the Admins will probably ban you without much fanfare.

I've been playing SS13 for over 15 years going back to the old days of Apop and Sulaco. The gameplay loop is solid however the staff/admins are and will be the downfall of this server and servers that are in a similar state of zealous control freaks, somehow they're more insufferable than when Feweh was around.
Okey, first thing to know: I have about 500 hours in this game through the BYOND launcher, and about 700 more across other SS13 servers. I started playing in about 2021, so I am not the biggest veteran there is. Not even close. For the good: SS13 and Colonial Marines are a completely unique experience. It’s free, extremely deep, and has a learning curve similar to EVE Online. But once you really get into it, there’s nothing quite like it. Also, after a few years, the dev team finally stopped what was essentially a civil war amongst themsefs and are now actually working on adding content to the game again. Now for the bad. I sincerely do not recommend this game. Not because the gameplay itself is bad, but because the admins are on a power trip larger than the Empire State Building. There is a high chance that, as a new player, you could get banned over a technicality or a genuine mistake. This server has one of the less draconian rule sets in SS13, yet the admin team still often treats the playerbase like their personal playground. For example, if I posted this review on the official Discord or forums, it would likely be deleted and I would probably be banned. The admin team in general is quite bad at managing the comunity. The admin team has pretty serius aligations running against them and are generaly not nice fellows and the administration often comes across as hostile, overly aggressive, or disconnected from the playerbase. However the comunity as a whole is mostly filled with great people, though there is a significant and very loud portion of the comunity that could be described as if Redit, Twitter, Tumblr and 4Chan combined their powers to create the Saltiest, Angriest, Politic-Only, chronicaly online individuals on the planet. Those are a minority, and if you stumble on them, just keep your distance and pray they are not on the admin team. On top of that, the game has become heavily aligned with a particular political ideology, and expressing political opinions that do not match the staff’s worldview can get you banned very quickly for being offensive, bigot or hate crimes judged by the admin team. For example, the game includes Predators from Alien vs. Predator. Marines jokingly referred to them as “Jamaicans” for years. It was a long-running community joke until someone suddenly decided it was incredibly racist and offensive. The rule change banning it was only announced on Discord, which many players never read. Overnight, people started getting banned over what had previously been accepted community humor. Furthermore, the admins are often accused of favoritism and generally treating certain players far more leniently than the wider community. The dev team itself can also come across as completely tone-deaf to criticism unless it boils down to: “This game is amazing and everything you do is perfect.” HOWEVER, over my 500-ish hours, I was only banned once, and that was for End-of-Round Grief, which was automatic and honestly deserved. I also received one warning for metagaming, which technically was against the rules. So here is my handy guide on how not to get banned. PIRATE’S HANDBOOK TO NOT GET BANNED DO: - Be polite to the admin team (might get you into their good graces) - Do what you are told (might get you a 2-week ban instead of a 2-month one) - Read the rules and stay invisible (less attention = less scrutiny) - Learn not to argue too much (the permaban hammer is always hanging over your head) - Keep YOUR politics out of THEIR game (If that is confusing, its like the rule "Keep politics out of games", but instead of that it aplies to only those that are not the staff) - Keep your head down and dont interact with the community aside from in game RP DON’T: - Join the Discord (it’s a mess) - Join the community forums (same story) - Create ban appeals unless the admin misclicks (The admin wont usually change their mind) - Argue with admins (Perma ban waiting to happen) - Insult admins or their friends (Be aware, you dont know who has or doesnt have a friend in the admin team) - Ahelp things that can be solved through the wiki or mentors (Admin got no time for your questions) - Publicly express political opinions that conflict with the staffs worldview (Perma waiting to happen) - Criticize the game (At all, the Dev work hard on their pet project. Who are you to tell them what to do?) - Say anything offensive whatsoever (Admin team waiting to happen) - Watch your jokes or dont make them TLDR: Keep your head down, change your opinions or leave them at the door, avoid the comunity. Follow that and you will probably not get banned.

They may ban you for a negative review I expect such behavior from these people unforunately. This is a launcher for a server and as the other reviews have correctly said it is overseen by a staff team that vary in many ways their depravity and the dismay they have caused others outside their cabal and cliques. I will provide some context to mine and other reviews; These are a group that have long punished negative feedback and otherwise policed speach. As a result. It unfortunately must be part of the reviews. While the game may be fun and interesting it is also tedius, boring, very niche. The staff are certainly apart of the game and the extreme detriment they cause to the game experience cannot be ignore. If you want to be apart of two-hour war where YOU can have an outsized impact on the performance and fate of your team, This game can provide that. It's my favorite part but the lows are long and the highs are short.
Admins are control freaks and take the game too seriously, not fun, I do not recommend playing
Includes flags, imagery and politics that had nothing to do with the Aliens intellectual property, the established lore of Aliens. Flags that have never appeared in any Aliens media which breaks the role playing immersion. Staff will harass you and force their personal beliefs onto you. Avoid entirely.
thwomper is insufferable, similar to the rest of the devs that enforce their "vision" for the game and ignore all the negative feedback. Hijack gameplay is the worst its ever been.
played since Sulaco(the oldest(?) shipside map in the game). Unfortunately much of the older player base has whittled away, expected after 10 years or so but it has also been the result of admins who have gone off the deep end. As with much of SS13 and SS14 (well they may have been like this when they started developing ss14 but lets be brief) the administration, and to a lesser extent the player base, has been captured by a certain demographic. I guess they were always there but they were different people back then, they did not have cat ear headphones and estrogen supplement prescriptions. Nevertheless these odd fellows have taken control of much of the gaming sphere and as expected they flock to the most autist games out there, this being one of them and they of course have the time to become moderators and admins. SOME not all, but with the SOME they have the perversions you would expect from this demographic, and of course they want you guys to know that they exist. besides that its fun, you can ignore it, I do and enjoy the game, doesnt mean we should be accept it.
I wouldn't recommend, some specific players in this community are the worst I've seen in any game or even on the internet in general, especially xenomorph players like Chi/WAR (Chiichii) and some others, it's funny that I've had such encounter only with xeno players because it feels like they're are manchildren/womanchildren who can't control their impulses when even a slightest issue arises and their furry fantasy is somehow confronted with the slightest inconvenience in-game, also these people have multiple prime xenomorph characters, with each requiring 175 hours spent on this game, also in general I just find xenomorph mommy/sister "rp" (yes mommy, because you can constantly notice xenos using "mom" instead of queen or whatever in the chat) to be extremely cringeworthy, all of this was so unpleasant that I decided to mention this I didn't have much of a problem with the staff nor did I grief, but it's annoying that you can be potentially interrupted mid game with an "admin notice" where you have to reply or "explain" yourself, and have to keep talking to them untill they leave you alone, quite humilating that you are forced to "explain" something, even if you didn't negatively affect anyone's gameplay (or even if it's a minor "rule break" I could've just received a note instead of literally having to talk while actively engaged in combat, why the hell am I required to keep talking to you if the result is the same - note????) Gameplay might seem novel at first, but it gets extremely repetitive because the only thing that changes between rounds is map, there's only one gamemode, even after a few years instead of adding more content into the game they've only removed more and more content, if you're not from US you're going to have bad ping even with relay systems, which will negatively affect the gameplay, Also technically this game can be considered a MOBA, because unless you're playing as a specialist/commander or queen, or a t3 you will most likely have little effect on the overall flow of the round, even if you do kill 4 xenos as a marine it won't matter because 2 marines will get captured and they will get those 4 xenomorphs back, also if you die permanently as a marine there's practically no way to respawn Follow Sseth's advice, don't play it
2,400 hours in this game and experienced pretty much everything it has. As many other reviews have pointed out, the developers are unwilling to listen to the community: unwanted features keep being added and recent maps focus more on visual appeal than fun or engaging to play. The biggest issue, however, is the staff. The majority of them shows favouritism towards certain groups, organizing more events around them and their shchedules and often overlooking behavior that borderlines the rules. Forum moderation is the same: banning complains that pointed out said issues. Watching this game decline feels like watching someone you care about slowly destroy themselves. It was once something I loved, but I can no longer recommend it.
