great game
I'm about 13 hours in and so far Chop Chop is worth the cost. It's a fun, sarcastic, beautiful world with interesting elements and characters. I'm just getting into the automation side, like just barely, and I like the way it looks like it'll work. I'm not huge into crafting games but I like the way it's handled here. Will I keep playing? Yep, for a while anyway.
Absolutely loved this game. A game that doesnt take itself seriously, is just fun for the sake of fun, and leans solely into the axe chopping parts of survival games, but dressed as an FU to corporate overlords. Its a game that just tries to be a game, and not an overindulgent immersive sim. Simple and sweet. It even has easter eggs, cameos, collectibles, secrets. All types of cool stuff a good game should have for the player to find and grab their attention.
I had fun, i have to give it a thumbs up. chop wood to make furniture to make money to progress to chop wood faster. Chopping wood makes you stronger, which lets you chop wood easier The early upgrades seem very meaningful, movement speed is fast, extra stamina is great Lots of little areas to explore and its nice with the shortcuts you can open. Up to about about ~30% progress (as measured in game, its maybe really half way) you have seen most things, have most meaningful progression. The last bit though has you using some automation, which was not very satisfying. Mostly because of the UI, and the amount of work you still had to do to keep up with the speed of that system being automated. I felt like i just ran around in a loop collecting some of every item as the game. In this section you get handed like 100 quests (i had 30 activate one point) and the automation you can barely set up priorities so it was just running loops and collecting until it did what I want. Crafting UI has no search, and its a long list at the end all the quests at the end reward you with money, which has very little use near the end (some, but not enough to spend it all) Some quests require you to turn things in a different way than the automation handles for you, so you gotta constantly loop through quests to make sure you are not wasting a resource Overall was fun, most incremental games sort of have weak endings so I won't fault it too much, but it did not feel reflective of the demo at that point.
Trees
I had the honor to test the game and it was already in the early states a very enjoyable game. What you can expect: Humor and many references to games, television series and ..... well real life things. A interesting exploration in a small, but very well thought through world, including many secrets! A cozy crafting system, which can drive you crazy with small tiles, but which at some point can be automated too. Every NPC you will find, will give you a fun time and useful progress for your journey. With that being said, if you are searching for a game to chill, finding new friends, finding secrets and destroy your enemy company by dominating them on the market, then this game is perfect for you. Enjoy it!
Strong in the beginning but falling off later on. In early stages you build actual structures and change your workplace, which feels good (because you feel like getting stuff done). In my last 4 hours I was only crafting items to sell or throw at Furnox, which felt like a slog. Finished the game with all achievements in ~16 hours. It is okay for what it is, but it has no replay value. If you don't mind go for it, fun quick little game, but if you want more than that, Portia is stronger in every aspect. In total 6/10.
