Refreshing take on Beat'em Ups
This game has a lot going for it considering it's the developers first release on steam. It feels a bit like a Megaman beat'em up. Take over one of two demons and tear your way through a league of heroes. I enjoy the hand drawn animations, diverse enemies, flexibility of combat and fun soundtrack. The two characters have different fighting styles. The first character Puna is a melee class, while her sister Sini is more of a mage class. There are six stages to complete with some secrets to find. Levels are mostly linear with arena style rooms filled with various creatures. Checkpoints are fair. Enemy types are introduced individually with story and lore so that you can understand how they work before having to fight them in mixed enemy crowds. Going through with a different character gives alternate dialogue. I highly enjoy the amount of depth in the combat. You have light, medium, and heavy attacks with a recharging meter for special attacks. Learning the evasion will be essential to your survival and it will feel satisfying grasping the system. The story feels original. There are some minor typos and rough bits in the text translation. There were a few other minor bugs l ran into during my play through like clipping on environment, but nothing game breaking.

(っ◔◡◔)っ ♥ pros ♥
+Fun Combat +Boppin Soundtrack +Hand-Drawn Animations
(っ>▬<)っ x cons x
-Minor typos & odd translation
The developer has done an excellent job on their first release. It may take 3-4 hours to clear and complete depending on your skill with at least one character. There is some replayability since the characters play so differently. I think more play modes or characters would enhance this game more, but there is some really good stuff here. 𝕀𝕗 𝕐𝕠𝕦 𝔼𝕟𝕛𝕠𝕪 𝕋𝕙𝕚𝕤 𝕋𝕣𝕪 https://store.steampowered.com/app/248310/Freedom_Planet/
Full disclosure: I'm friends with the dev, and did receive the game for free. It's been an honor to have watched his journey on developing this over the years. Chaos Sisters is REALLY good, imo. It's very much inspired by retro Beat-'em-Ups, and you can feel that in both how it plays and the level designs. That's both a good and bad thing, there are a few rooms that can be really frustrating, but nothing feels unfair. Like the tutorial says in the beginning, if you're dying a lot it's probably because you aren't taking advantage of the dodge mechanic! Both playable characters are fun to play, and feel very different from each-other. The gameplay feels great, the art is fantastic, and the music is amazing. The stages are all neat, and the bosses are fun, with great designs and fun mechanics. The final boss in particular is one of the more cinematic things I've ever played, with absolutely amazing music. Which is great, because I'm bad at Beat-'em-Ups, so I died a lot and listened to it for a good bit of time lol. There's the occasional collision bug in some of the platforming areas (I got stuck on a couple corners when trying to jump up), and a few typos here and there, but honestly it's got to be one of the most polished games I've played in a while, and it's crazy impressive what a single dev was able to pull off. I *highly* recommend this game to any fans of the Beat-'em-Up genre. At least try the demo with the first stage, if you end up liking it your progress will carry over!
This is a very very fun game. I am traditionally terrible at side scrolling beat em ups and I still enjoyed playing this one. The art is amazing the story is fun and doing combo's feels absolutely wonderful and satisfying to pull off. I very highly recommend giving this game a try!
Awesome graphics and music fits the stages very well. I especially enjoyed the last boss of the main game. You can never go wrong with a good beat em up!
Salut mes petits agneaux ! Disclaimer: I received a key from the Dev! Thanks Tuke! For the record, I'm not the best with beat'em'ups nor play a lot of them*. However, what Tuke brings to the table with Chaos sisters is refreshing, especially with the boss and level designs. Let's start with the first; Boss fights mechanically are challenging and you do and will have to learn their patterns through failure to progress and it itches that soulslike gratification when you do finally defeat the boss. Level design, you have a wide range of levels to go from, from a smol countryside in the prologue to a Steampunk-ish ice factory, to a sprawling Neon-lighted city, with fun monster arenas spread about with bonus lore snippets between the protagonist(s) and them for some nice world building! And to close, I recommend this, it is a passion project with great world building, cute and cool monsters, great boss fights that require practice and patience, sprinkled with humor in the dialog here and there, and an active developer that quick to patch if a bug slips out! If unsure, totally try the demo. It carries over progress if you do decide to pick it up! :) P.S. If there is ever a kitty mage plush with yarn ball magic, I'm totally snagging one! :P *The last beat em up I can vaguely recall playing would be that of 'Battetoads' with siblings in that chaotic sprawl.
A fun take on the sidescrolling beat 'em up. The balance players have to take with their magic meter creates a good combination of reactive and strategic play. Enemy variety is high and encounters are well designed around them, making for chaotic, but manageable combat. Both characters handling extremely differently gives the game a refreshing amount of replayability on top of the secrets hidden in each level, revealing more backstory and unlocking the true ending. High recommend!
I liked the graphics of the game. This game has smooth gameplay. I like how the game has many multiple different enemies that you have to beat. It has good boss fights and a great story.
In short the game was good especially for a solo developer project, and the character arts were enjoyable. It's a tight little action adventure with two playable characters to choose from accompanied with impressive hand-drawn art and animations. It was fun pausing the game and seeing unique frames which can be missed during normal gameplay. Hidden bonus comics which broaden the stories of the characters were also good stuff. I started off with the easier character of the two (Puna) and played through the game with her. During the first stage I had my doubts if I'll enjoy the game because the controls didn't feel as responsive at first, but after that it clicked and I had a blast. The game is short and doesn't overstay its welcome. If there were any more stages the format would've gotten stale. It's just the right length. There were few times when the player character didn't align with the platforms that well, but nothing that would ruin the game experience as a whole. Some rooms require you to destroy all the enemies to keep going, while in some instances you can just run past the them. An odd decision, since defeated enemies don't drop anything, making actually fighting them unnecessary in these kinds of rooms. The endgame had a nice twist to it, which I won't go into in this review. Check it out yourself to see it.
Steam

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d3cf5e-UPlU
