the best thing Chaos Brigade does is feel like an actual game its exactly how i wish Cryptark would play. pick a gun, hop into a ship, kill everything, get out. there are no time sensitive shield generators within other shield generators or hoops like that. the environment of the ships, which is surprisingly interactive, mainly provides you with opening doors, extinguishing fires or refilling health a ship was about to self destruct but getting to the mechanism was easily pointed out and if theres anything else more complicated than that, well, the other best part of the game is you can mess up everything. they want the ships cleared And they also want the ship. every door, floor, wall, whatever is in your way can be destroyed, but its going to cost you where a lot of rogue-whatevers have very choking and artificial timers and resources to manage to keep the operation barely afloat till the end, the only punishment in Chaos Brigade is impatience and reckless misfire. you can methodically go through every corridor to unlock all the sequences of doors and put out all the fires and activate all the sentry turrets and shoot only the aliens and never let a bullet slip and keep everything profitably intact or carve right down the middle blowing away anything you see. you might be able to pay for it if you get out alive. the brigade youll be operating with each has, again, a surprising set of abilities and weapons to exterminate with. dropping a portal anywhere to come back to. a jetpack. a temporary shield. a static bubble for mosquito swarms. flamethrowers, mines, machine guns and grenades. a decoy turret. antigravity boots. the game is so quick to jump into the action it doesnt take long to get accustomed to everyones style and appreciate just how much variety there is the one irk i have is dodging for some characters can be an issue. limited mobility or no shield, lack of a crouch, left with nothing but simply running away leaves some moments lacking finesse surprised/10. way cheaper than it needs to be. please make more characters for dlc. please make another game as good as this one
Very good game, very fresh, playable and challenging. I really like the personality that the different characters have been assigned. It feels like playing a different game every time you select a different soldier. the music is catchy and the sprites very colorful and recognizable. The action pace gets very interesting the more and more you are honing your aiming skills to avoid damaging the ship. Overall it is a 8/10 for me, with the ability to crouch it would be even 9/10, however the directional aim function will take care of the "below the belt" crawling critters. Recommended to all the fans of platforms and space aliens
This a great game and it's perfectly priced. I dig how each guy plays differently, but I suck with the robots. I'm just horrible. I could really see this being the "combat phase" of a larger, space pirate/salvage style game. So I hope it sells a bunch and the developer gets to expand on the ideas as presented. Oh it's also pretty dang hard! But I'm old too.
A good game for sure but also not ez
In this excellent WH40K....ah...wait no.... ;) Okay so in this excellent platform/puzzle/shooter you get a good romp with the opportunity to blast critters. It does factor risk/reward in nicely too. E.g. do I blast the crap out of everything and burn it all down? Or do I play it slower and risk letting the critters advancing in the infestation (and/or causing MORE issues for you). Runs well, great with a controller (didn't test with Mouse/KB), and it makes me smile every time I hear the computer gleefully announce that all the civilian life is terminated on the hulk. Great little game!
It's pretty well made for what it is, in that there are a lot of moving parts to it that make it work. You're basically infiltrating a ship with one of six characters and trying to cause as little damage as possible to save up more money. If you run out of money or all your characters die, the game is over. There are little quirks to the game play, as you don't want to walk over fire but shooting the walls creates fires. You can set off sprinklers to destroy the fire. Every once in a while there's an emergency and you have to run over and hit a switch. There are also rooms that unlock some doors and close others, so you have to decide whether you want to blow through the wall or play through procedurally. Unfortunately, almost all of the characters are useless and handle like garbage because their guns have very limited range. Private Jane is the only useful character because her weapon shoots all the way across the map. The way I beat this game was to do really well with private Jane, save up coins and save about 2/3 through the game (You get a single save per game). Then, blow up the ship and evacuate. There's a penalty for doing this but because I had saved up so many coins it didn't matter, the game basically let me surf through the rest without killing anything. Unfortunately some of the achievements are "kill 10,000/kill 100,000" enemies and these achievements always end up being a boring waste of time. So while I enjoyed figuring everything out and the game has really cool environments and a lot of variety with the aliens, I'm not totally satisfied with the game. It is leagues ahead of most indie games like this, though.
Very nice game!! You have to use your brain to complete the mission not only your gun!! ;)
Fun game, difficult to master Mastering all characters' abilities is the key to success
"Game is very nice. I did not expect having out of the box all the characters but that is the point of the game: understanding which char has to be used in the various scenarios. I was a bit lost in the beginning since there is not much information on what to do, but it is really basic stuff and after one minute you get the grasp of it. Approved!"
Nice game, very enjoyable so far. It's not as simple as it may appears at first glance, each character have their own playstile and you have to know how play them in order to complete successfully your mission. I expecially like the idea of the ship friendly fire, soundtrack is great too.
