I love the heart and effort I can see playing this game, but I felt like I wandered around the island for 30 minutes looking for what to do next. I understand that part of the fun in some of these games is figuring that out, but I suggested to the developer of adding in some way to give clueless players like me a clue. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KYGfZMC-GJs I recommend this game if you'd like to play it, and perhaps help this developer make this game more complete and fun to play because I do feel a lot of effort put into this so far. It's got the "cute" factor as well in some of the interactions, and I love that. Right now, I'd give the game a 6 out of 10, but feel that can definitely go up if the developer continues to flesh this game out more.
The game is amazing. So amazing, that I was not even able to pass the tutorial. The game asks to eat berries, but I was not able to find a right button for this task (I am playing with mouse and keyboard).
A true indie - hand drawn. Developer did a lot of work but there's still a way to go. Goats and ostriches are fun. Looking forward to playing it again after there's a little more content. Keep up the good work.
This was a fun game and I liked the old school look. It would be fun to see some more recipes.
This product was provided for free to review by a friend of a friend. The game initially reminded me of the classic Kings Quest game on the Apple II. You wander around a bit looking for the next thing to pick up. Kind of just wandering and clicking around with very little direction, but there are some occasional tips by talking to the characters. It was probably inspired at least some by MineCraft, since the player starts with nothing and has to pick up items and then use them with other items in inventory or objects on the ground to try to get make else. It also has similarities to One Hour One Life. There's a lot of experimentation required to get anything going. It was neat to see that there was seemingly wild nature with the sporadic growth of the grain. Maybe at some point, eating the animals will be viable. It seems like the entire thing could be explored in about an hour for a player although it's obvious that the designer has another frosty area of the map and another game mode for multiplayer in the works, but at this point, I believe it should be free to play for everyone as a demo while building up more of the game. Even though I understand that the game is about exploration and experimentation, there are some things that I recommend for the developer that I believe would have made game play more enjoyable: 1) For the "Let's Trade" dialog, rather than saying "Get Closer", maybe the characters could automatically move together for the trade. Similar to when you pick an apple - you click on the apple and the character goes to it to get it. There's not a guessing game of "how close do I need to be before I can pick this apple?" - only a clear path is needed. That's great that the developer put in the logic to be able to do that for picking up an item. Please, add that same kind of thing to interacting with NPCs. 2) Using the keyboard and mouse was how I played and although picking items up was easy, figuring out how to set them down was another challenge. When my inventory was full of things that I didn't know how to use, I couldn't pick anything up. Clicking an item doesn't give an easy way to set down. I thought that maybe if I clicked on an item in my inventory and then clicked the ground, it would set it down there, but no. I eventually found that I had to make sure I wasn't standing too close to something, facing the correct direction (with space in front), and then press the 'E' key. 3) The Cake Pan and a couple other things just appear in your inventory with no explanation. (It appears to be on a timer.) Having more character interaction for those items would give the player a chance to learn something about it, like getting instructions from the Breadman, for example. 4) Also regarding the Breadman and other characters, maybe having a "Give Item" option on the dialog along with "Let's Trade" will make that aspect more clear. I tried to give the Breadman an egg to learn about Cake. He "traded" for them and then, again, said I should bring an egg to him to learn about Cake. I got more eggs, came back, and went through the same thing. It was frustrating to do multiple times before accidentally click him while one the egg was highlighted in my inventory in order to discover that was how to "give" another character something. If you want to keep with the experimental part of trying to give someone an item that they didn't want so they won't take it, that's different, but it could give you some more chance to build up the character interaction. "Eat" maybe another way to interact with the players own character - since, if there is an injury, the character will recover some from consuming the food by clicking on it similarly, but it's another one of those things that is an accidental discovery rather than seeming natural that your character would consume one item but not another... and it's not like Cake is the only thing the characters will eat, although maybe sweets are the only items considered edible in this primitive world. Overall, I think this game/demo is ok for players who are interested in this exploration/experimentation style of game, like MineCraft or One Day One Life. Although it is lacking quite a bit still, there is more hidden under what you can see. I recommend this to people who are willing to give constructive feedback to the developer.
The game seems really nice, and I like the concept a lot. Thing is, I am having some issues with saving. However, as far as I understand the game is early in development and possibly being made by one person so issues like these are understandable. Can't wait for future updates! P.S A little help with saving would be much appreciated! :D Edit: Save function in now working. Also, the controls are fine, that was a mistake on my part. Big thanks to the developer for the fast fix and the kindness!
I played this while it was still in Early Access, and at that time the map was not fully complete, which is understandable. The open world exploration and graphics remind me of my roots playing Ultima Online many years ago. Felt good, and homely to me. I also enjoyed randomly trying found or made ingredients throughout to see what combinations are available. Hello Apple Horn... Cake was indeed made and eaten. I think this sums up my time: I beat a dude selling hot peppers to death, then bought some magical berries, ate them, and came to with the dude I beat alive and well. A wonderful evening overall. Some improvements : - Inventory management, I found myself with a inventory maxed out a bunch, and besides eating anything edible, I couldn't figure out if there was a way to drop items. - The goat's bleats (or elk/demon) were causing my wife to wonder if I was slyly requesting help - I picked up lots of wood but couldn't find anything to do with it. My thoughts were some kind of crafting, like combining a rock with the wood to make an axe/hammer and/or fletching. Not sure if this is in the works, but could add more recipes/dynamics to game in future updates.
Cute game. Most of the game involves searching for and collecting food items to combine into recipes. I like the art, character movement, and the sound effects (especially the crickets, loons and eating an apple). I understand that the game is in development, so here are some things I hope to see addressed: I like the rivers, but I want to go swimming or get into the water. A waterfall area for fishing would be fun. I like the mountains, but why isn't there snow on top? In the snow zone, it would be fun to sled with or throw snowballs at the Yeti. The goats are cute, but they killed me. I want to feed the goats and tame them, but I couldn't. I enjoyed kicking the ostriches and making them squawk. Where's the cave dweller's club for protection? What's the jade for? Why can't I make a pumpkin pie? Good luck with this project!
it's not even a game basically. character has aaabsolutely no motivation. you're just gonna be looking at a moving ostrich in the middle of screen, and that's all fun it has. i have a big question for steam people, who released this failed experiment
solid game only played for a short time but its been a lot of fun
