Warning: AI Slop This game is partially or completely made with talentless, soulless AI generated content.
"CATpillAr" is part of a growing trend from amateur developers to see just how much disgusting AI slop they can throw at gamers. And from the looks of it, everything in this VR tech demo that isn't AI slop came off the Unreal Marketplace. What do you do in the game? This is a pointless and short VR tech demo made with AI slop, vibe coded into being a barely functional train wreck where you wave your arms around in VR to put worms in buckets. That's it. Someone seriously paid $100 to dump this AI slop onto Steam (even the marketing blurb is AI slop). What a waste of their money and our time. The technical execution of this game is shallow and simplistic, just enough to tick the boxes required to get something (anything) published on Steam, rather than investing the huge amount of effort and budget needed to create a fully fledged, comprehensive, high quality product. This feels like a tech demo more than a full game. As mentioned, this features really godawful, "wrong" looking AI slop instead of genuinely and sincerely created game assets. It's hard to say if this was because the developer didn't have the skill to do the job of creating real game assets or couldn't afford to hire someone who does, but it also doesn't matter. What matters is that this looks bad because of that decision. AI slop sticks out like a sore thumb... and it comes across as insulting. There's also the old adage that those who lack the budget and talent to make their own game assets usually lack the budget and talent to do the rest of the job of game development properly, too, and that's glaringly obvious here. The game assets here look a lot better than the actual game they're assembled on... that doesn't mean this is necessarily an asset flip or a kitbash, because there's no proof. But what matters is that this has all the same terrible quality as asset flips, and at the end of the day that's one of the reasons people don't like asset flips, the quality is bad. That's a problem. It's VR exclusive, and that shows the developer failed to understand the most basic axiom of VR game design... if the only cool thing about your product is VR support, your product is not cool. Let's look at the price and what kind of value this actually offers gamers. This is "free" enough (not every "free" game in the "free" section is truly free, there's usually some hidden price tag), at least you won't be expected to spend any more money after you download this, but just because something is free doesn't mean it's good, and the cost of a game is more than just financial, your time is valuable too. Even as a free game, this couldn't find an audience. With a peak of only 2 players, it's clear the Steam community took one look and walked away. They literally couldn't pay people to spend time playing this. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? Nope. This isn't worth downloading. There's no financial cost up-front, but you'd still be spending your time and a little hard drive space on a product that's far from the best. There's thousands of better alternatives on Steam. The use of AI slop is a direct insult to gamers and real, ethical content creators and artists everywhere.
_________________________________ Google translator: I'll leave the idea aside, since it's free for us. But the controls are poor. With the left thumbstick, you can "snapturn," with the right thumbstick, "teleport." Exactly what I hate in VR: teleport and snapturn. With the grab button, you can hold one or another caterpillar to teleport to a bucket and then let it fall in... If only it worked properly. The caterpillar just flutters around, it's a gamble to get it into the bucket. Since you only have 30 seconds to collect the caterpillars, the "fun" of the game is quite short. On the one hand, that's a blessing, on the other, a shame. If it had been more elaborate, I would have liked to collect a few more creepy crawlies, but as it is. No thanks! My suggestions for improvement are: Smooth turning and locomotion. Being able to grab the caterpillars with "power gloves." Seeing different types of moths at the end of the game, depending on which caterpillars you've caught. So it's just worse than bad. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ou7FaLf4MQc
