Castles II: Siege & Conquest

LOVED this game as a kid. runs great.

An amazing classic. Man...the memories I have of playing this game as a kid...

It is a good game but it has some ,,old game" problems and stupid ideas, for example you always have to please the pope, who comes and asks you for a gift in gold... which most of the time you cant afford. If you deny him a ,,gift2 to often your realtions will plumet and you will even be excommunicated. Really annyoing because this means you cant declare wars or attack neutral regions. Also there constant ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ saboteurs of your enemys coming to you to steal ressources, troops or even your castles. Anyway mayybe i needed to play on easy or soemthing, it takes a bit of trial and error to get of the ground to be successfull. It also has amazing lore about the british castles and sieges and defenses in general, very cool ingame events that you dont find in modern games anymore because the developers suck ass at creating these kinds of experiences.

If you played the original, it's a fun trip down nostalgia lane, but newcomers will be disappointed at this early format that subsequent decades built on top of and improved

Slightly different version then the original, the subplots are different and have an animated animation not sure how I feel about that but the trade off of having premade castles ready to go is worth it in that respect. The difficulty level also seems to be different but other then that it is the Original Late Great Castles 2. Probably the greatest game of my childhood rivaling the original Zelda. If you've never played it still holds up 30 years later, well worth the small investment.

One of my favorite games when I was younger... along with its predecessor the original Castle's Game. Though I forgot just how fast paced it was. You have to build up fast, or you will get conquered fast, because the AI in this builds itself up very fast. If you don't, you'll quickly find yourself excommunicated from the Church and your Happiness level dropping fast. To this day I feel the more modern and more advanced castle building games like the Stronghold seriers for example, just can't compare to this . Because this Game, and its predecessor both have just enough randomness to keep them challenging and interesting. I can't help but wonder what a Castles III game could have been like if this series had continued. It took me a few minutes to remember how to do everything... a few, precious minutes... that the AI used to stomp me in its gathering and army building. By the time I remembered how to do everything... the AI already had me surrounded and vastly out numbered me. All that said, this IS a Steam Port of an old early 90's game. Its 30 years old; originally marketed as an MS-DOS game, ported from a Pre-Microsoft Windows Era (Windows is not even mention in its original "specs" as a "supported platform") to work on modern Windows based PC's. So its not without a few bugs... but its still fun and enjoyable for the sake of Nostalgia, just be prepared for its ridiculously fast pace!

A blast from the past. You will probably only like this game if you played it in the late 1990s / early 2000s.

I bought it for nostalgia porposes, i remember playing it as a kid Although basic compared to modern games it was still very fun and challenging to play years later. There are some issues with this game such as sped up music and some blank messages but nothing that breaks the game. Still very playable and enjoyable.

Was a great stroll down memory lane

I have been playing this game for decades. I play it so much that I recently built a Save Editor program. Highly recommended.
