Walking through a room, undamaged, easiest difficulty. Immediately fell through the floor and died. What?
This game was a bit of a surprise for me. At first blush, it seemed like a lazy cashgrab and not much else, but it's actually a full-length game with a story and everything. Castle Torgeath is a your standard dungeon RPG. You use a map to get through six large areas, using weapons and magic to fight off enemies. It has a hunger meter that requires you to scavenge for food and a torch that you have to relight in order to see what's around you. The game has a pretty varied cast of enemies, although combat boils down to the same things regardless of what you're fighting. The game also has an experience and leveling system that grants you points to upgrade one of three attributes, but I actually didn't even know it until the last third of the game. There are also many items that can be gathered, but the vast majority of them don't seem to have a purpose. You can find pickaxes and use them to mine ore, for instance, but I never saw any reason to do this. Perhaps your weapons can be upgraded and I never knew. You can also collect tools and junk to trade to a ghost who gives you temporary buffs, but there really isn't any reason to do this. At any rate, this was a pretty enjoyable game, I thought. Despite its $8 price tag, the game took me about 9 hours, plus it has multiple difficulties and you can alter your playstyle, although I don't imagine that would make much of a difference. This was definitely a pleasant, little surprise that I would recommend to anyone who likes exploration-based dungeon crawlers.

I killed a rat and a shiny lemon flew out of its ass. 11/10
Having owned this game for years and installed it a few times since buying it, I have to say it's not a very good game, and no progress has been made, it seems. Simply put, the combat is not fun. It's clunky and feels unnatural; especially the magic casting system. Enemies move in stiff, unnatural ways. It feels empty; like a perpetual alpha/ Even the graphics look like 'quick tech demo' graphics, and lighting glitches - when the lighting works at all - will damn-near cause a seizure. Finally, there's the perspective. It's just bad. Everything from to position of the camera in relation to the arms, all the way down to figuring out just how far away a crate is, can potentially feel like you're cramped and seeing distortions in the game world. I really wanted to like this game. I pirated it several times before buying it, thinking that maybe newer versions were better. Dungeon crawlers like the early elder scrolls games or the Wizardry series are my bread and butter. I honestly couldn't find a single thing that this game has done in any unique way. It's like alcohol; you have to force yourself to like it, and even after you like it, it's still bad for you. (2021 edit - I tried Castle Torgeath Redux and though the graphics go from a 2 to a 4 it's still the same broken and uninspired slog through a slow and uninteresting garbage)
A very clunky dungeon crawl experience, with primitive traps & jump scares.
Oyun çerezlik oyun. indirimde alınır. Genel hatlarıyla fena değil.
A nostalgic trip back to the RPG days of yore. For $8 I was suprised with what I got but what you get is good if you enjoyed games like Kings Field. Combat is your choice of 3 weapons and spells (you find more along the way if you explore) with a thrust/sweep/overhead melee attack.Takes a few encounters to get a feel for how to engauge and dance around a foe but after that you will be a master at it. Lots of item drops to the point you will not know what to do with all your potions, gold, food and junk. finding the right balance to hold and drop gives a more realistic feel to the doungen dive though hope is had in future updates more trade features/encounters will be added. A good way to spend an even enjoying a simple but fun and very nostalgic game.
Game is a bit slow but has it merits. Combat is reminiscent of King's Field and Shadow Tower, but taken from that perspective it does a good job of managing to retain some of those same old feelings. A bit of a hit or miss for nostalgic value, but if you've played or liked those kinds of games in the past, you'll definitely like this game as well. The story is also pretty interesting, but requires quite a bit of reading and nosing about to piece everything together. Overall the game is pretty decent, and definitely worth giving a whirl if dungeon crawling be your kind of thing.
