Castle Crumble is another Apple Arcade game ported to Steam by Orbital Knight. Recently, they have also ported Spire Blast and you can read my review about that HERE They're both very fun games if you enjoy arcade games and have been ported well to PC. Castle Crumble is an Angry Birds kind of game where you have to destroy a selection of castles with a finite amount of shots using different weapons at your disposal, which are highlighted in your panel. Targeting is quite accurate. Wherever you aim the weapon usually lands, but there are some rogue weapons like fuse bombs which will bounce and may go out of position. The game is quite tactical because certain castles are made out of different materials and have different weaknesses in their structure, so careful selection of your weapons and placement is required. Some castles are shielded too and you may have to eliminate their generators before the castle can be attacked. There are sometimes balloons which float around in the sky and you need to time your shots so they fall and cause maximum damage, and sometimes there are stashes of dynamite hidden in the map, so its always worth spinning around the level first to see if there are any welcome gifts for you to blow to smithereens. My favourite are the rubble eating monsters, and if you can collapse a tower on to them they will eat the rubble and then spit it out and destroy other towers, and if those towers are eaten then they destroy more. There are also chains holding TNT which can be broken which swing into towers with spectacular results. Both of these are very satisfying to watch play out. As you progress, more elements are added to the game. Eventually, you will end up with weapons like dynamite, which can be stuck to the castle walls and blown up with a projectile; fuse bombs which have a short fuse but bounce a couple of times before they explode; acid flasks which dissolve any material; a magic beam which is good for getting in tight spots; a freeze ray which freezes materials and makes them brittle, and basic cannon balls. There are also boosters you can unlock through progression and then bought in the shop to use whenever you want. Boosters are things like meteor strikes, which hit three areas you target; disruption pulses, which eliminate any hazards on the screen; a disintegration ray; and a huge anvil that falls from the sky. By using a combination of your weapons and boosters you have to clear the level of castles to go to the next level. Levels often contain stages so one level might mean you have to clear three or four sets of castles. The explosions are great. I never knew I enjoyed blowing things up so much, and the sound and visuals compliment the explosions perfectly, although after an explosion the destructive sound sometimes carries on indefinitely which I am sure is a bug. The controls are really easy to use and the game is simple to understand. There are six worlds to conquer and 300 levels with an estimated completion time of around 15 - 20 hours I would say. My only issue with the game is that it is too easy. The only difficulty so far has been special levels which are dotted throughout the map, but normal levels are quite easy to complete to three stars on your first attempt. I am half way through the game and I have three stars on 150 levels. I had to only repeat two levels out of the 150 to get three stars and I didn't even use any boosters to help me out. I think the problem is that you are given far too many weapons at the start and it is not difficult to knock down all the towers with weapons to spare. I'm still enjoying the game, although I hope it does get more difficult in the second half. I think the difficulty needs to ramp up gradually so there are some balancing issues at the moment because I am sure it's not just me being brilliant at the game.
🍳Conclusion🍳

Castle Crumble is definitely a fun game with some meaty explosions that are very satisfying to watch. There's quite a few things to think about before attacking the structures like what they are made of or whether they have defences you need to disable, so there's a fair amount of tactical thinking needed. I just worry that it may be too easy for some people and without that challenge it may deter people form continuing onward.

Thank you for reading my review. Was looking forward to this game after really enjoying the demo (think a 3D version of Angry Birds), but game clearly hasn't been through proper playtesting after experiencing multiple bugs that prevented progression either requiring you to close the game or reinstall it entirely. Bizarrely it enforces you to visit the store after each level (despite not having an option to buy currency outside of what you earn outside of levels) Refunded until they get fixes sorted and game is in a better state.
Surprisingly fun and oddly relaxing! Watching structures collapse never gets old, and the physics engine is just so satisfying. The visuals are minimal but charming, and the destruction feels impactful without being over the top. I found myself constantly saying "okay, just one more level". Didn't run into any bugs so far. Performance was smooth on my macbook too. If you enjoy physics-based puzzles and creative destruction, this one's an easy recommendation.
I was going to wait and review this game after playing for a while, however the bugs described are indeed gamekilling. This is a shame , because the game is a brilliant physics based demolition game. Everything works beautifully and it looks terrific for poly graphics. Everything , that is, except the story tutorial, which is broken and locks things up exactly as described in the negative review. I simply wish to recommend this game on the understanding that the devs are going to patch the problem (see other review). 300 levels is an impressive amount of content - here's hoping I get to see them ! UPDATE : The devs have swiftly patched the game as promised. I haven't had a chance to test this, yet, however the quality of the game design suggests all will be well. To reiterate : this is a hugely satisfying physics destruction game, with a ton of cool features. Full of LOL happenings, particularly on the later levels ( watch the trailer ! ). Deserves to be a smash, and it's a shame about this launch glitch. Onward & upward (or downward, for the castles . . . )
Damn! What a game! I thought SpireBlast was the Best of this studio, but Castle Crumble, oh man! So much fun, physics of destroying is so real and predictable that playing is so much fun! So many levels still ahead so not worrying about content, me and my son are loving it!!!! Good job Orbital Knight! I want moaaaar!!!11!!
So cool! A very relaxing, well made game :D
If you want a game that's relaxing and satisfying, you really need to try this one. My kid loves watching how castles collapse.
I really enjoyed it! Watching castles fall apart is incredibly satisfying :) I keep coming back to this game to see what other tools of destruction are waiting to be unlocked. I didn’t encounter any major issues. Everything ran smoothly the whole time. If you like creative destruction with charming, polished visuals, it is definitely worth a try!
The game is very good, but there are many bugs. In my case, every time I complete a level I have to click on the store icon and every time I click on the book icon to unlock a part of the story the game crashes. Unfortunately this ends up making the game very stressful. The game urgently needs updates.
Fun to play and watch! Finally bought it. That's zero gravity mode is epic ! Very good physics with nice low poly graphic style. It can be a good game to play by yourself or with your family. Especially on steamdeck. Totally worth it :)
