Caladria Chronicles

I won't hide it, this game is something of an amusing trainwreck, trying to do way too many ambitious things at once and missing the mark on most of them. Specifically: - The voice acting is not awful like the other review suggested, but it's definitely a mixed bag. Not only some voiced don't really work, but also there are some missing of misplaced lines, which is just distracting. Secondary characters are not always voiced. - The humour is very much hit-and-miss and especially with the main characters, the six friends, the game tries to be funny a bit too hard – there's no place for real character development in all of this. - The game introduces WAY too many characters and subplots, failing to establish a protagonist or main intrigue you could really care about. It also does very little to explain the pretty complex and abstract setting it happens in – a parallel world of sorts with a mystical connection to ours and dominated by Earth's cultural and technological influences. You won't really know that if you haven't read the messily-written encyclopedia though, which is a huge bummer. The art and music in the game are pretty good, but of course, the things mentioned before are much more of "core issues" that define the whole experience. The end-effect is really weird, eclectic and dominated by otaku sensibilities to an unhealthy degree. Why a positive rating then? Mostly because behind all those missteps, there are some really interesting concepts, story elements and even character that I'd like to see elaborated upon, and it seems it's the dev's intention to remake and salvage this series. I may have received the game free but this is an honest review 1st off the pros and cons as I see it Pros Really nice art Proper understandable English Decent story Interesting and diverse characters Cons I'm sorry but this is horrible voice acting, I played with 'Voices OFF' BGM a few are nice but many are annoying ended up playing with 'Music OFF' half way through BGM and Gallery fully unlocked before playing the game (Avoid if you don't want CG Spoilers) The Opening song sounds like a HORRIBLE 90s song, the vocal and music is just painful! (Sorry if it's rude but it's true!) The jokes are mostly corny and weebish, very few managed to make me chuckle. Cliffhanger ending so incomplete story. No idea if dev plans on adding more story to this game free or making it paid multiple games or dlc? For the price I guess I can safely recommend it, the story itself is good. Some might actually find this more interesting than I did, especially those who prefer English voice acting for sure. So while the story itself was enjoyable enough, I actually liked the differences in personalities of the characters and their teasing playful moments the most. I just think it tries to hard to seem Japanese with all the ♥♥♥ words and honorifics it doesn't suit the rest of the writing! Plus all the mixed nationality English voicing with the Weebfest of words it's actually more of a Weeaboo Cringe! With the voices on I wanted to scream! With the voices OFF it was much better and managed to enjoy it easier. Dev sorry if it seems harsh but after all this is my opinion, not anyone else's.

Caladria Chronicles was a lot of fun. It has really good art, fun music, and pretty solid voice acting, which brings the whole thing together in a pretty nice way. Our main cast of characters, while maybe being a bit one-dimensional, are all fun in their own right, but more than that, it's fun to see them all interact with each other, and they got quite a few laughs out of me. This isn't a visual novel if you're looking for a deep, intricate plot; it's a very fun slice of life story to relax and laugh with. Although, I will admit that a lot of the backstory of the world of Caladria is quite interesting, with the biggest problem being the lack of explanation of a lot of that lore outside of the encyclopedia, which is a nice addition. Possible more will be revealed in the future. It has the bones of something really fascinating. All and all, though, this is a good introduction to the characters and their relationships together and starts to give you a peek through a door to a pretty interesting world, and it makes me excited for where the future of the Caladria universe will bring us.
