This game has no sound with my external USB DAC. Controls cannot be configured. The gameplay is pretty dank. Not recommending to buy it.
Introduction:
Bullet Life 2010 is an interesting take on the bullet hell genre, developed and published by From Soy Sauce LLC. But is it executed well?
Controls:
Mouse: Not supported. Keyboard: [Using type 'QWRTY'] Main Menu

[th]Keys[/th] [th]Action[/th]

Z Accept

esc Return

In-Game May differ depending on your setup.
Sound:
Music Not really a fan of either of the 13 soundtracks available. The main menu theme is my least favorite. You can also listen to the songs in the 'Music Room', but no way to use that song on the main menus or during stages.
Graphics:
Aren't great even for a game that released in 2010. Better detailed background environments could've made playing through the stages a lot more enjoyable. Enemy 'bullets' look simple which isn't really a problem. You can play the game in either windowed mode or full screen. Windowed mode plays in a window of 640x480, which isn't resizeable by dragging the edges of the window for example. On the other hand, full screen doesn't support widescreen (16:9), so you're stuck with the 'black bars' left and right (4:3).
Gameplay:
Set-up Before getting dropped into the action, customize your character to your liking with a variety of divisions, weapons & extensions:

Divisions: Choose one, depending on your style of play. There are 3 divisions: ▣ Ace (Fast but weak shield, fragile) ▣ Intermediate (Balanced speed & shield) ▣ Safety (Strong shield but slow)
Weapons: which are seperated again into 3 catagories. ▣ 3 Primary Weapons ▣ 3 Secondary Weapons ▣ 2 Canon-types (which could be better classified as ammo type)
Extensions: ▣ Booster (To evade enemy fire), ▣ Support Missile (Fires four missiles when you use your secondary weapon), ▣ Shield (Gives you an additional shield)
Each of these customizations come with their own positive and negative attributes. Bullet Hell Now, the gameplay itself is pretty awkward for a bullet hell shooter. I personally prefer top-down or side scrolling types, so this feels weird to me. Dodging seems smooth enough if you pick the 'Ace' division, but aiming and shooting was a bit difficult for me because of the camera. Maybe a fixed camera angle (Like the 'Gummi Ship Missions' in 'Kingdom Hearts 2') or if the camera kept following the character fixed directly from behind (Like how 'Ratchet & Clank' handles the camera when 'Strafing' for example.) would be better. The game becomes challenging with each increasing difficulty, which isn't a bad thing necessarily. But playing and clearing the stages on the highest difficulty doesn't seem rewarding, because most, if not everything, is already unlocked once you start up the game. From divisions, weapons & extensions to music tracks, difficulties & stages (even the extra stage in free mode). This takes away the fun of unlocking these, so no real replay value for me really. Other problems Lacking instructions. I don't mind figuring out things myself like in older games, but this game offered an instruction which never taught us about the controls (Z and directional keys are important in game, and sometimes you get a pop-up to press 'C' as well, which I guess is for your extension?) , the in-game UI & the scoring system (What are the Item, Graze & Frag points?) No story, mode which isn't really a big deal for me. But it seems like one of the things the game's missing, just by reading the stages short objective descriptions on the bosses and we get an extra boss with the name
"Maya Gunter"
. Tips - You can also zoom the camera in or out using the keys: A,S,D, and F. I found this not really helpful, keep it on the default camera zoom. - Pick 'Ace' if you're confident in your dodging ability, if not, then pick 'intermediate'. 'Safety' feels to slow for higher difficulties. - Play with your keyboard, it's way easier than with a controller. But for split screen you do need to gamepads though.
Pros:

Fast transition from main menus to in-game. Which is a plus, especially if you want to experiment with different set ups and difficulties
Variety of set-ups for your character
Difficult but not unfair

Cons:

4 stages and one extra stage
Okay music
No achievements or trading cards
No way to remap keys
No mouse support
No story mode
No tutorial
No replayability
Awkward camera angle
Feels like a rushed game

Conclusion:
I appreciate the developers for taking a risk with this unique take on the bullet hell genre, but it just doesn't work for me. The graphics don't look great even for a game released in 2010, but I personally didn't reach this verdict based on the graphics though. There are other problems which made me not recommend the game - the lack of content it offers in some areas, no real replay value, no tutorial and the music isn't so great either. Maybe a 3D bullet hell could work if it were better executed or maybe it's better for this genre to stick to the top-down or side scrolling type of games. Either way, if there comes another 3D type of game from this genre, then I would try it again. But so far, Bullet Hell 2010 certainly didn't make me excited for another one of these though. The game is just fun for one time or maybe play together locally with someone else. Not recommended. If you really want to, only get it on sale once it hits 75% off or more and you've got money left to spare.
No entendi un choto
Fun for people that like bullet hells
Sim!
Is it even playiable or somthing?
Here's my latest for this game. This is a very good game, has a very anime feel to it. Looking for a challenge, this game will give it to you. Put the difficulty on Hardest and watch as the chaos begins. Can be very addictive. Some features I would like to see: Goal's, Upgrades, Online coop, more bosses and levels.
