love the movement the gunplay is wonderful and i feel like normal is the right amount of diffculty
fun but different i keep falling though the map
I've owned the entire Borderlands library. Some i've purchased across multiple platforms just to have them available. Including BL 3D. Every gameplay choice in this game wastes your time. The world is huge and feels empty. Your vehicle is slow and the physics are clunky for it. It's just faster than running. The typical home bases aren't really the quest hubs you'd think unless you're in endgame. The 'guidance' system is absolutely necessary since whoever designed the world did it with "you can't get there from here" mentality. Too bad that guidance system is schizophrenic and will absolutely lead you the wrong way A LOT. The questing isn't rewarding because the characters used to push each quest aren't memorable. So it's just fetch quests with no heart. Collectibles are purposely set away from any quest paths to force you into that area one time. So, you'll never go there prior nor after getting that collectible. The space only exists for that. The combat (hardest difficulty, granted) is bullet sponges. A lot of them. And often specifically long ranges that you have to close the distance to be effective, and then things spawn behind you. It's very annoying. You don't feel like you have a manageable battlefield at all. And aren't making any forward progression for 10 minutes trying to just get that one collectible in the area (as mentioned before.) You can't just brute force through because the vehicle, as mentioned, is worthless both as transport and in any combat use at all. And again, getting swarmed is a very thing that can happen and the enemies are overwhelming. The story? No idea. Don't care about anyone because you don't see them for so long in between outings. Nor do they matter in the other 'zones'. None of it feels like it has any weight. None of your decisions or dialogue matter. The combat? As expressed earlier, time sink. Too many bullet sponges that are unmanageable as a 'front.' So you yoyo in and out of the engagement area to try and keep from being swarmed while simultaneously having to move up to even reach the enemies. Speaking of enemies, nothing special. There are factions. But they don't matter. Because ultimately the combat system is loveless. The element system is unimportant. There's not enough 'impact' to pay attention to the element system. The differences between one element or another is negligible. Am I going to continue playing it? Yes. Why? Because I paid money for this game. On sale, no less. And I'm glad I at least waited and didn't pay anywhere near full asking price on preorder/launch. The DLC? I have a couple that came with the chosen bundle. Haven't played them. Don't know if I will. Don't know if I care that much. I definitely won't be buying anything else for this game. Not the worst game in the franchise. That still belongs to Tales of the Borderlands. But its down there.
It's worse than I could have imagined. Gearbox has completely destroyed a once great game franchise, again.
I can see the fun, but I noticed on some others playthroughs, and in the store page for guns, its the exact same guns I am already rotating in the beginning of the game. That and the enemies are the same too. Loveless and Cash, sick designs. But, Ill buy when the ultimate's is 30 bucks. 65, is just too much imo. As far as running it though, no issue for me.
I am shocked to have enjoyed this as much as i did BIASES: fun friend group / the game being a free weekend gave us incentive to "speedrun" and beat the main story as fast as possible / general enjoyment of the borderlands series As stated in the bias i think that totally ignoring the side quests on a first playthrough is the way to get the maximum amount of enjoyment out of the game which i/we usually have done for the others in the series anyways. I had bought the game on launch and didn't really vibe with it and spent 8 hours of my playtime doing sidequests and open worldy stuff. This free weekend and playing just the main story, skipping every cutscene yelling at the npc's to stop talking so we could continue on the "speedrun" made this game, so i think if you have the chance with some buds say ♥♥♥♥ it ignore all that ♥♥♥♥ drink some whiskey ignore the enemies outleveling you a bit and just shoot some dudes. Even while skipping the cutscenes and mostly ignoring the story out of some burn from 3's being not so great i think it's still pretty obvious this one is written better but don't believe me as i basically have no idea for this one. played on high fsr balanced with frame gen on was getting fake 120-140 so probably real 60-70 ish wasn't to bad but i don't mind dlss/fsr
I did not enjoy anything about it. Characters, visuals, controls, guns, story, everything was lame. Played for over an hour hoping it would start to become fun, but it did not. I will not waste anymore time with it.
Bland, forgettable entry in a series that gets worse with every iteration. Really poorly optimized despite not looking terribly different from any of the previous titles. Played during the free weekend. Not the worst game ever, just don't see the point of picking it up when I can just go and buy a game that is actually fun.
I played this on the free weekend. Here's my review: If you're looking at Borderlands 4, there's a good chance you've played a Borderlands game before. You may even own some of the previous installments. You could spend $70 on Borderlands 4, or you could just play the versions that are already in your library for no additional cost. You aren't missing out on anything special if you skip this one. Also, it's 173 gigabytes.
