This could be a fun game if it respected my time. Unfortunately I have no idea how this got through QA and they thought it was fine. It is badly optimised so you need reasonable hardware just to run it. I struggled through the first several character levels with the lowest settings and it looked horrible. I ended up saving up and buying a new GPU just to play it at reasonable framerates and be able to see grass. While that made a difference going back to the game has been like this: Go back to the game in Steam, oh goodie there is a 48GB update! The game now takes up a whopping 178GB of my precious SSD storage space. Devs need to learn to optimise their games, not just in terms of performance but also in how much space the game takes up. 178GB is ridiculous. Especially in this climate of RAM and SSDs costing a small fortune thanks to AI. Game finally updates, go into game, spends several minutes compiling shaders. Checks for patches, finds new patches, downloads and applies them then "reboots"! Game launches again, and then starts compiling shaders again. Finally get to title screen again but the resolution is off. My bad, I had to replace my old 1080p monitor which had display issues and now have a 1440p monitor. No problem, I'll go into settings. Changed the resolution to 1440p and then it compiled shaders, again. That finally finishes, then I got in to the graphics options to to an auto detect on my newer GPU. This lead to, yes you guessed it, more compiling of shaders. Eventually I get into the game. I am finally having a great time shooting tons of stuff and picking up loads of loot. I am reminded of why I bought the game in the first place and I am finally having fun after taking age to actually get to this point. 20 minutes into having fun where I rescue Zadra, we end up in a room where I kill all enemies but then she just runs around in circles and not opening the damn door like she is supposed to. A quick search shows that the AI can bug out and there could be ghost enemies. Spend ages spamming grenades in to nooks and crannies but Zadra is still stuck. Another search tells me that the game is full of bugs like this. How does this get through QA? I so desperately want to recommend this game, it is fun (apart from the bosses just being complete bullet sponges, that gets old but it isn't the only game that does this) but the bad optimisation and mission breaking bugs makes this very difficult to recommend. The game doesn't respect my time or my wallet enough for to recommend. It is a shame as I have enjoyed the other Borderlands games, and there is a good game here trying to get out. But it has been sabotaged by lazy developers (who think resources are infinite), poor QA and awful management who just want to line their pockets while releasing a game that needed more work and a lot more QA.
Another UE5 casualty
This game is better than Borderlands 3 in every single way. The gunplay, the story, ... everything. It's not that high of a bar, but still. Where it falls apart is in performance and stability. I would pick 4 over 3 every single day, but I have to admit 4 is barely playable. The outlines of everything flicker constantly, assets take way too long to load in even on an SSD and LoD stays on the lowest setting for AGES when you get close and I'm not sure whether I should still cause the stuttering "stuttering", because some time it takes so long to resolve it's more like "freezing". Exceeding 60fps without DLSS is basically impossible without dropping to 1080p. Steam SAYS it's Deck Verified, but that's a lie. Not only is performance horrendous (25fps max, not clean), but Gearbox in its infinite wisdom thought it would be a good idea to REMOVE ALL GRAPHICS SETTINGS from the menu for Deck users. I assume they thought Deck users craved the limitations of console gaming (a baffling assumption), but instead of simplifying the experience, they guaranteed the only way for Deck users to get a remotely playable experience was by going into desktop mode and messing with the game files to mod it into a playable state, or trick the game into thinking it's not running on a Steam Deck through launch options to reveal the options menu again. That is the opposite of simplifying anything. It is such a bad decision I'm wondering under my tinfoil hat whether Randy made it intentionally terrible just to sabotage the game on Deck just because he hates Valve. It's so bad on paper, so terrible in practice and so universally unpopular in the community, it's hard not to assume malice at this point. ...but again, the game is actually good under that. Some bossfights are the best the series has ever seen. It's such a shame it's in such a terrible technical state to this day, because I probably would recommend it otherwise.
Lousy performance, nearly €200 in DLC costs, boring—reminds me of EA and Ubisoft. Gearbox and Borderlands are done.
Pros: fun fights (when you can find them), reduced legendary drop inflation compared to 3 Cons: NPCs who won't shut up and get to the point, rampant girl-bossery paired with universally pathetic male NPCs, overt political messaging, empty open-world lacking the density of activity in 2 and 3, cringy writing. Not recommended at even half price.
My playtime didn't even last two steps after laggy first cutscene. Played around 31 minutes? Nope. Most of that was Shader Compiling. I love Borderlands, but seriously? This isn't even a game, more of a slide show.
I´m having loads of fun with this game. But man that game is buggy, quest don´t trigger correctly, bosses are missing during the missions, items you are supposed to collect or shot don´t spawn. Until now those bugs could be fixed by restarting the game. But restarting the game every hour gets anoying real quick. Fix your f..ing game!!!
Оптимизация кал, мир не интересный , сюжет тоже. Можно купить только по большой скидке
how is this steamdeck verified when it runs at 20fps? what a joke...
Unoptimised slop.
