Very rarely leave reviews but as the first student made game I've played I thought it might be worth weighing in. In a sense the game is visually great, Fluid at times clunky at others and easy to understand and get to grips with, there are design choices I think are great and others that could be expanded upon. My biggest complaint is the auto travel segments, you can move left and right but its propelling you forwards on a rail, which is a great way to show of visuals and tell a story without a transition to a cutscene. Which is great if done correctly, however whilst I love the visual in this segment the game fights you all the way taking you out of what immersion could be had, If you take the game up on is accessible option and try to move left and right while travelling across this path it responds poorly and feels as if your fighting against the game rather than playing in motion with this sequence. And even if you lay down the controller and try to indulge in the scene you are again pulled away as the path is poorly drawn leading to a dragging movement and the Swordfish getting caught on thin air, failing to exit the sequence on its own. The fact that this is the only gripe I have that I truly feel is fair for complaint should show how well executed the rest of its development is. The Soundtrack is subtle yet incredibly atmospheric, The controls are incredibly basic with two inputs apart from movement is fun and engaging. having the dash movement as the primary attack simplifies this more. For a short well paced game not having a separate dash, a strafe or a multitude of attacks works in its favour. The game does not swamp you with tutorials or hints to baby you, the enemies are well designed for you to immediately grasp what you need to do to defeat them. If I were to ask for anything apart from more game, I would say that it would be a good feature to reward players for what they picked up through playing. In this case before the final boss two doors require you to quickly impale objects before they blow up to use as a key to unlock the way forwards. However the introduction of this speed factor is not taken further unlike everything else introduced. When I arrived at the final boss and managed to quickly shoot two bombs at two different corrupted segments I was not rewarded and instead as scripted the boss moved off with the second bomb having no effect leaving a sense of dissatisfaction. Obviously Boss gates are usually scripted and this has been a point of contention in many titles which is why I wont say its a black mark. But if included it adds that little bit of sauce that makes the player feel so much more
Goated game, short fun adventure, definitly recommend. The mechanics are also very orignial
we need chinse!!!
