Because apparently a "flask of oil" is a puddle on the ground and not, you know, the actual flask just an inch away. Just one of many gripes with this game. That one just really stood out because, knowing how these hidden object games can be sometimes, I'd started clicking anything that could remotely be considered a container for oil, or even just oil. Including that puddle. Three times. Finally caved and used the hint button for the first, and last, time. It was that ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ puddle.
Blake and Mortimer: The Curse of the Thirty Denarii, developed by Mzonestudio and published by Microïds Indie, is a story-driven hidden object adventure that draws directly from the long-running comic series of the same name. It places players alongside the iconic duo as they unravel a mystery tied to an ancient and dangerous relic, blending historical intrigue with light puzzle-solving. The foundation of the experience is its narrative, which carries the weight of an established storyline filled with conspiracies, archaeology, and classic adventure themes, giving the game an immediate sense of purpose and direction. The gameplay is built around traditional hidden object mechanics, where players explore a sequence of locations and search for specific items within detailed scenes. These segments are interspersed with simple puzzles and mini-games that aim to break up the flow, offering brief moments of interaction beyond object-finding. The overall structure is easy to follow, making it accessible to players of all experience levels. Hints and guidance systems ensure that progression rarely becomes frustrating, which helps maintain a relaxed pace throughout the game. However, the simplicity of the design also highlights one of its main weaknesses. While the hidden object sequences are functional, they often lack variety and depth. Many scenes follow a similar structure, and the challenge comes more from locating items than from engaging with creative or evolving mechanics. Some objects feel awkwardly placed or difficult to distinguish, which can lead to moments of trial-and-error rather than genuine problem-solving. Over time, this repetition can make the experience feel predictable, especially for players familiar with the genre. The narrative presentation attempts to stay faithful to its comic origins by incorporating stylized panels and story segments that mirror the source material. This approach has potential, as it connects the game directly to its roots, but the execution is uneven. Visual quality and transitions between gameplay and narrative segments can feel inconsistent, which occasionally disrupts immersion. While the story itself remains compelling in concept, the way it is delivered does not always fully capture the depth or atmosphere of the original material. The inclusion of mini-games is intended to add variety, but these segments tend to be brief and relatively simple. They introduce different mechanics, such as pattern recognition or basic logic challenges, but they rarely leave a lasting impression. Instead of significantly enhancing the experience, they often feel like short diversions that do little to expand the core gameplay loop. As a result, the overall pacing can feel uneven, alternating between repetitive searching and brief, underdeveloped puzzle segments. Visually, the game offers a serviceable but unremarkable presentation. The environments provide enough detail to support the hidden object gameplay, but they lack the polish and consistency needed to stand out. While there are moments where the art direction hints at the style of the original comics, the translation into a digital format feels somewhat limited. The audio design complements the experience without drawing attention to itself, maintaining a functional role rather than enhancing the atmosphere. Despite these shortcomings, the game does manage to deliver a straightforward and approachable experience. Its strength lies in its simplicity and its connection to a well-known narrative, making it particularly appealing to fans of the source material or players who enjoy casual hidden object games. It does not aim to innovate or push the genre forward, instead focusing on providing a familiar and easy-to-follow structure. Ultimately, Blake and Mortimer: The Curse of the Thirty Denarii is a modest adaptation that succeeds in capturing the basic essence of its source material but struggles to translate that into a consistently engaging interactive experience. Its accessible design and narrative foundation make it enjoyable in short sessions, but its repetitive gameplay and technical limitations prevent it from achieving greater impact. It stands as a serviceable entry in the hidden object genre, best suited for players seeking a light, story-driven experience rather than a deeply immersive or mechanically rich adventure. Blake and Mortimer: The Curse of the Thirty Denarii - point & click
Played through to completion! Graphics – Just like the books/comics. Soundtrack – 8/10 but loops. Bugs - None. Overall - Really fun little HOG with puzzles game, a good one to play with the other half. Rating - 9/10
Leider sehr kurz. Keine große Herausforderung.
