But then a man arrives to disturb its tranquility—a man who spent his boyhood at the estate has now returned after 10 years.
The Baron Edenic—the master of the house—and his four sons, the doctor, and the servants greet him with wariness, joy, or unfamiliarity.
A story of discord and destruction between and the people of the mansion and a man who hides his thirst for revenge beneath a calm demeanor.

Maybe the real revenge, was the friends we made along the way.
[Somehow, this review was longer than I expected it to be, so I cut my thoughts on each route. Full ver on toongle?? Lul] Well, well, here we are... FYI I mostly played this game offline, so that's why my stats are Like That. If anything, this is a Very delayed review, but WOW. What a game!! I’ve been looking for a BLVN (I’ve yet to play) where you could top that hits my writing standard for a Hot Minute & this didn’t disappoint! At first, the sheer amount of mixed reviews may intimidate someone (I know I felt the same way), but if the writing hits, it Hits. Even so, there are a handful of misses, but they’re the type I could acknowledge & love the game regardless. Knowing the nature of this game, do Not expect any love love fluffy romance; it is, much like Room No. 9, a psychological thriller through & through. & for me, a damn good one at that (it's up there with the aforementioned game, really). If you love period dramas,& could handle a loooooootttt of non-con/dub-con, a lead who's, quite frankly, a Bastard, then this is for you. FYI, this game is partially voiced, but the voicework for the important scenes is mostly good, as KOR voiceacting is… subtler? to word it…than JP voiceacting. As in Subtler subtler. Alex’s evil cackle is to die for tho❤️ Without going into any spoilers, I really like how you could apply a feminist reading to this game, especially when tackling Alex & Beth's dynamic. To me, this game definitely turns the "fridging" trope on its head; it's hard to explain without going into the meat of things (still have to write a cohesive meta post on that orz), but if you've 100%'d the game, then it makes sense. One thing I could say for certain is that, with the way this game is written, it *really* captures the humanity of everyone involved. If you assume that this treatment is only reserved for Alex & the route guys, then you're dead wrong because yes, even the "true villains" (to word it) get that as well. For me, that choice is SUCH a breath of fresh air, knowing how most of them are pretty 1-dimensional. However, knowing BE's overall themes, it's fitting for them to be written that way. + save for the usual revenge quest, each route is interesting to go through, as the plot, too, branches out; it's also fun since you get more lore tidbits uncovered. The prose being written in 3rd pov also adds another layer of intrigue/mystery to Alex because While we do get into his thoughts & the choices are very much straight-forward, his narration only alludes to the things he’s unsure about/in denial of. Surprisingly, despite the game’s title having “Eden” in it, there’s hardly any biblical references in the text — mostly stuff relating to paradise & gardens; you could see a majority of this in the lyrics of the vocal cred songs. Flowers seem to be the priority in the official art too, for lore reasons. Perhaps the namesake is more of an ironic thing? I suppose one of the gripes I have with this game (rather, duology) is the Beyond Eden —> Dear Edward timeline because we're dealing with a Schrödinger's cat here. Maybe I should save these thoughts for my DE review to keep things neat? Lol. Moreover, one of the routes feels out of place... IYKYK — it's pretty infamous in this case, actually! Whilst some people aren't picky like I am (I'm jealous of you people, BTW), it's a shame that the bedroom positions aren't listed here in the Steam description. I'm 99% sure most of the people that picked up this game are here for the fact that Alex is, indeed, a switch — a rare case in the BLVN world, much like the top, HAHA.
Not sure if it's spoilers? But to be sure (& for those who are curious), here are the bedroom positions per screwable interest (as putting "love" beforehand feels wrong):

1. Oscar - Switch 2. Joshua - Bottom 3. Laurence - Switch 4. Morris - Bottom 5. Theodore - Top *FYI: The "switching" in Oscar & Laurence's route is stagnant. In other words, if you choose to top Oscar from the get go, you top him in the rest of the H scenes; the same applies with Laurence's case.
Unfortunately for me, I came into the assumption that all the screwables (I'm calling them that now) have a choice in the bedroom, but knowing the text & the game mechanics, it's unlikely *GUNSHOTS*... Anyhow, speaking of game mechanics... Other than the run-of-the-mill VN choices, there's also an observation mechanic. It's there, I suppose. Sometimes it's during SFW scenes, sometimes it's during H scenes... etc etc. Well, in *one* case, it's utilized reaaaaally effectively. Hot. Iconic. Speaking of H scenes, Yes, this game is censored (audience gasps). As in, there’s hardly any pixels to even be seen, actually — most of them are covered up with the way the CGs are composed😭The art is stunning, but I wished Alex’s face could be seen more in the CGs where he tops; this problem’s fixed by the time we get to DE tho. This is a nitpick, but I kept on thinking about how the post-orgasm CGs don’t have the ♥♥♥ splatter calm down, so it looks like they’re still coming even if the action’s long gone. For the most part, prose-wise, the H scenes are also good in that regard — I like how you could pin-point Alex’s kinks with how much he brings up certain characteristics. I feel like some routes are lacking in foreplay, though (especially in Oscar’s route). Maybe it’s for pacing’s sake, but you know. Nothing wrong with writing a bit more (coughs)…..
(I wanted to see their last H scene’s uncut version…. especially if Oscar bottoms there).
Also, if you want to know, the game’s tone DOES change depending if you top/bottom; pick your poison!😁 All in all, if you’ve read what’s on the tin & are prepared™, go ahead! Join me in screaming into the void about these Victorians……crawls around.
THE PLOT IS PLEASING ALTHOUGH i DO NOT LIKE THE ENDING A LOT. BUT IT IS A RARE GAME FOR PLAYERS WHO LIKE THIS GENRE
Great game, amazing story, get it before they try to remove it. The premise is great and it delivers. We have a very nuanced protagonist and whole cast, and you unravel the story little by little with each route.
Mind the warnings! The majority of H-scenes in this game are dubiously consensual at best (and the route with purely consensual scenes is locked behind the completion of other routes, so you won't be able to play the game without experiencing them). If non-con is a hard no for you, I'd recommend skipping this one. If you can stomach that, you might find this game to be a compelling experience (assuming you're not just here for the sex scenes, which are definitely... lavishly done). The art is pleasant to look at, and the characters are generally written in a complex and grounded way. None of the adult characters are entirely good nor entirely evil, and the interactions of their respective character flaws are interesting to observe. Events play out slightly differently across different routes, but the characters' actions and relationships with each other are always internally consistent (while not necessarily remaining static). Different routes also reveal different facets of the protagonist's past, gradually painting a more complete picture of his relationships with other characters and with himself. If the one caveat above doesn't turn you off (and admittedly it's a pretty big caveat), I would recommend giving Beyond Eden a shot. Additional notes: - The protagonist exclusively tops in two routes (Joshua, Morris), exclusively bottoms in one route (Theodore), and the player chooses his position in two routes (Oscar, Laurence). - Jeremy (the child)'s route is entirely platonic, for those who might be worried about that. - The H-scenes are quite explicit in terms of text (and I presume sound effects as well, though I played with them turned off). However, there are no genitals visible in the illustrations. - The protagonist is mentioned to be bisexual, but there are no romantic or sexual scenes with women in the game itself. - Theodore and Laurence's routes are locked behind the completion of all the other characters' routes. As another reviewer has mentioned, I would recommend saving Laurence's route for last.

PERSONAL RATING: 7.5/10 I actually really enjoyed this. The setting gave it character and set it apart from all the other visual novels in my backlog and the ones I've completed already - before Beyond Eden I'd never played a game like this set in the 1800s so it was an interesting change of pace for me. The characters were all pretty engaging and varied, and I warmed up to all of them by the end; I went into it thinking Joshua would be my obvious favourite (and he was) and that I wouldn't like Theodore's route, but I actually grew pretty fond of Theodore as the game went on. I enjoyed playing as a morally twisted protagonist like Alex; I usually prefer customisable characters rather than pre-established characters with backstories and pre-set names and appearances in my games, but it worked really well here. There were at least a handful of twists in each route, some more major than others, and each of the characters worked into Alex's backstory neatly. I did the routes in the order of Jeremy (non-romantic route, obviously - very wholesome) -> Morris (some uncomfortable moments, but decent endings) -> Theodore (this guy is so funny) -> Oscar (probably the route that felt most 'canon' and that would make the most sense to me if this were a novel rather than one where you could choose your love interest) -> Joshua (still my favourite both in terms of design and how his good ending plays out - I was pleasantly surprised by how genuinely sweet it was). A few nitpicks, mostly minor: - Morris is supposed to be 46, but he looks in his 60s, especially because the flashbacks from over a decade ago already have him fully grey-haired. - There are also a hefty amount of spelling errors and typos, and I think this game was very much in need of another run through editing; it didn't ruin my immersion entirely or affect my enjoyment of the game, but if you're picky about or bothered by that kind of thing, it's frequent enough that it might be an issue for you. - It commits one of my grammatical pet peeves, A.K.A. using "........." and variations thereof instead of the proper three-dot ellipsis ("..."). - FWIW, I also ended up skipping the NSFW scenes pretty early into the game. They just get repetitive and awkward, and I say that as a guy who really doesn't object to some NSFW in my games. - More majorly, I also found the Edward stuff in Theodore's route somewhat uncomfortable - he's supposed to be an adult in the game (I gather about 18), but his design makes him look 14/15 at the oldest to me and he acts and speaks childishly, so Alex having a sexual relationship with him made me feel like I was suddenly playing Groomer Simulator. However, I can for the most part try to ignore that because it only occurs in one ending (I believe a bad one) of one route. Overall, a genuinely enjoyable game with an interesting plot, characters I liked, and some nicely-done twists.
