BEASTWATCH: Meat & Mayhem

Wow, what a game! I didn't expect it to be so good! This is the perfect example of the kind of games I love: the simple ones that do one thing, but do it perfectly, without useless complications that are added just because they are trendy. Beastwatch wants just one simple thing: to be FUN. Does it succeed in that? Oh, yes, it does. Speaking of gameplay, this game is extremely similar to Half Life 1, except for the controls, that are much more precise (fortunately!). It rewards caution and strategy, and punishes recklessness and overconfidence. If you take your time, are aware of your surroundings, and carefully peep around corners before proceeding, you can easily anticipate all the ambushes. If you play run-and-gun, you'll be butchered in a matter of seconds. Speaking of the desing, this game is flawless: the enemies feel threatening and dangerous, the weapons give a satisfying feedback, the levels are interesting but not too labyrinthic, and the shooting is often intermingled with simple puzzles and platforming that make the game much less repetitive. And speaking of the atmosphere, it is top notch! The retro graphics are gorgeous, and the story is heavily inspired by the classic sci-fi B-movies that are trashy and exaggerated on purpose, like Black Sheep for example. The vibes of those movies are reproduced perfectly, and that's what I loved the most! Overall, an excellent and extremely fun experience, that doesn't claim to be what it isn't and delivers what it promises without hiccups. STRONGLY recommended! Cheers guys!

Pretty fun and fast-paced retro FPS game. Gamplay consists mostly of shooting enemies while finding keys to access locked doors (though there are a couple of code puzzles as well). It's simple, but you never get bored.

Nice game, the graphics are on point with the PSX aesthetic and the shooting feels really good. Recommended.

It goes straight to the point, just meat, just mayhem. It shows a vintage look but delivers some fresh gameplay. Very Half Life like experience.

A fun indie Survival horror. The game spoofs Resident Evil 2, but surprisingly, it is actually scary too!

I had some fun with this. It's a pretty simple game - you basically just explore, shoot monsters, and find some the right keys (and in some cases a couple items) in order to proceed. There's a couple little puzzles but not many and you're mostly going to be shooting pig monsters. If you're looking for a retro shooter with some extras though - this one has them. Beating the game allowed me to unlock Speedrun Mode and Mayhem Mode (and I think Hard Mode as well) so there's definitely more here after you beat the game. I really enjoyed it for what it was - an old style FPS. If that's what you're looking for then this might be the game for you.
