My apologies for this initial review, it appears that some miscommunication between the developer and I led me down the wrong path. So I looked at this from a fresh perspective and reached out via support email and their discord and two things became apparent: this is a very loved project and the team is actually friendly and trying their best to earn their name back after a long history of this game having been restored and left recently by another.
Now with that part over, we can talk about the game, which I was finally able to log in and play and do the tutorial on my laptop on my 1st account, so I will have to see how this goes on PC.
You are initially met with a fun tutorial with a great loop of music to let you know what you are in for, a turn-based tactical strategy game. Where the turns tick and you gotta prepare your next move and out smart your opponents units. I will dive deeper, but the dev is right, this is free, and im back after a very long time. This game as a kid was amazing as I remember it, where it really shines is in the PvE, come into it with a friend and play the cooperative game modes and you will find the true way to enjoy this game. PvP might do it for some, but as always its just too exhausting and not enjoyable the older you get, who cares what rank you are? PvE missions and bounties and getting into the real core gameplay is what the developer needs to focus all their time on.
Hopefully I can get a friend for co-op and experience more, and I hope the plans for the game are to dive deeper into developing the PvE, while PvP and Ranked can be entertaining for those who like it, I know alot of people who dont bother with the stress of these things these days, no matter how shiny the rewards are. If you make PvE, people will come and stay for it, that I have seen time and time again.
I will say this game is deserving of having a look, its not everyones cup of tea, but you might just stick around, and at the end of the day, it is up to the rest of the players, who I assume might be on test servers. I really do hope to see some sort of PvE direction to the future of the game, outside of what is already there (and dont get me wrong, the co-op is GOOD already, this is a chance to take it to the next level!
- Id hope to see 2, 3 and 4 player co-operative modes, including match-making with random to play replayable missions as a regular gameplay loop one day too.
