This is quite an original idea for a super fun game, with amazing graphics and great gameplay. I haven't experienced it in VR but its already quite amusing without it. The game could get better with sounds from the characters to tease each other and such. But it is very polished for an early access one. I really recommend it. Super entertaining playing it with friends.
This is a fun vehicle based shooter which uses a cartoon and over the top design asthetic. Players are given a multitude of options to create virtual havoc on a wide range of environments. The environment locales are full of environmental dangers that add to the gameplay - creating a complex and hectic meta. While the game is still in Open Access, it has shown great promise with a detailed design roadmap and open communication with it's player base. I look forward to the developers adding new game modes (perhaps CTF or 2 players in one basket) and continuing to evolve Balloonatics.
I love player vs player combat games like this! The VR experience takes it to an new level. The controls are mostly intuitive in VR, but non-VR desktop play takes some getting used to. The tutorial helps, but I mostly used the challenge levels to get comfortable with them. It runs smooth, the stages are well designed, and I've never had any lag in multiplayer, so a definite win.
This game is some good fun! I have buddies that play in VR and this is an awesome crossover game that we can play together. It's still early access but it gets better with every update.
A wacky and zany online battle game with fast-paced action but also reasonably deep mechanics to experiment with and discover surprising strategies. Also, not only allows VR and non-VR players equal access to play, but is even balanced enough that they can both compete on equal footing. Neither hardware method is over-powered. "Think Mario Kart battle mode, meets Guns of Icarus, with the visual style of a Saturday morning cartoon" Pros: - Loads more polish and stability right out the gate than any other Early Acces game I've played - Cute and goofy visual style. Always hilarious looking at other players flailing around inside their balloons - Great variety between levels both aesthetically and functionally - Many weapons deeply satisfying to use (Especially the Saw Slinger, zzzzzzzzzoooom) - Available weapons support a variety of play-styles. Defensive or offensive. Ranged or up-close - Emergent Gameplay: Many weapons can be used in unexpected ways, or even alongside other weapons, to expand the possiblities, and lead to great post-battle stories. Cons: - Needs a few more levels (Early Access though, so watch this concern become out-dated) - The notification that your friends are waiting for you to ready up and start the game needs to be more obnoxious, and harder to ignore, for those of us who get easily distracted playing target practice in the lobby :P - Some physics are frame-rate dependent so ancient/below-requirements computers can get occasional physics hiccups
This game is still very early access but the dev's are working tirelessly to keep releasing new content that will greatly improve the depth and turn this game into something very unique that stands apart from most. There is a very solid game base already and the devs are always taking suggestions, listening to the community, very passionate and very friendly. Its still to early to make a proper review as not much of a player base yet and no single player. However I for one am greatly looking forward to see where they take this. When we do gather a few friends together to play it always generates lots of laughs and good times. First time I played, I found it very refreshing at the lack of normal UI. The game is definitely designed with VR in mind but is completely playable without. Everything is still there but you have to look around for it, not just hit a key. You will find yourself constantly head spinning to try and keep tabs on what weapons you have acquired? where are the enemies? how many balloons do I have? is my engine still running? are there traps everywhere? Why do I hear the buzz of death? It creates a very original experience as you always have to keep your head on a swivel or risk humiliation as you drive through your own minefield you forgot you placed. This game was a nice flashback to the mariokart balloon war days on N64 only with an exciting twist. I really hope the dev's continue their sleepless nights trying to make this game something special because they already have the ball rolling in the right direction.
Balloonatics supports both VR and Non-VR multiplayer, so it is the perfect game to bring friends together that don't necessarily all have VR headsets. I've mostly played with an HTC-Vive and can say everything is on point. The game play itself feels similar to Hover Junkers with less of a focus on construction and more of a focus on weapons. Weapons are fun and have a lot of variety. They awarded in a Mark Kart, grab power-ups around the map, fashion. This keeps people moving and seems to prevents camping. The game has a very active development team as new stuff is being added all the time. I definitely recommend checking it out.
First time experience so here we go...the game feels like a new age version of battle mode in Mario Kart. It's a great feeling and memory. The maps are well made artistically and for some serious tactics of battle. Driving and shooting is a bit of a learning curve to find a good aim but I'm sure with a little more practice I'll be climbing the leaderboard. Overall, a great game and one to continue enjoying.
After just 5 minutes of gameplay (and with more or less calm tutorial in that) the game made me more sick than I ever was in VR. It is roller-coaster level of sickness. I foolishly assumed that it would be more of a puzzle game, slow, more tactical fight where managing your ship would be most important. But no, it is action packed and with very quick steering that makes you sick. Maybe if you can play anything in VR you could find it fun. Maybe after I recover I will play challenges and it may be more managable.
