Very rarely do I buy games that then disappoint me. Unfortunately this is an exception to this. BALL x PIT has a great foundation, but it lacks any semblance of balance. For me, it only managed to be compelling at the start of my playthrough (up to about 5 hours). After that, seldom did i really struggle... The last stage was a difficulty spike; the enemies, the environment, and the boss felt harder and weirder - like a departure from what came before, which was GREAT. Although, I believe, this is how every level should be, not just the last one. In most of the levels, the bosses were trivial. Before playing the game I've heard the bosses were quite good, so that not being the case for me, was a major disappointment. The music is great - that is the one preconception I had, coming into the game, that turned out to be true. Lastly, the hitbox of the playable character was unintuitive. Even after completing the game, it didn't feel good moving the character and dodging projectiles. Sometimes the way a shot hit me was really baffling. Overall, the game feels occasionally clunky, almost always too easy, like a mobile game during some parts - but it has great music and a decent artstyle! Try it out, maybe it will be for you
Not a good game; neither game mode is fun or engaging. Not a shooter at all, it's just floppy sloppy slop and you watch your balls bounce around. barely a game. at one point i just realized it was never going to get any better or more interesting, and that was when the spell was broken. i had been doing the heavy lifting hoping something would click, and it never did. i felt used and stupid afterward.
Totally addictive game! One of my favorite games released last year. Looking forward to the new DLC so I can play more with my balls in the pit!
There is no real challenge and the mobs are just reskins. The only real difference are the end bosses which again are no challenge. At some point you enable auto farm characters who can complete levels while you are afk which is almost what you are doing when playing the game yourself. I enjoyed it at first but by the end I was questioning why I was continuing to play.
An excellent game with a highly addictive formula brimming with possibilities. It blends several genres: brick-breaking, roguelite, and shoot'em up. Each run lasts about 15–20 minutes. You break monsters in form of bricks with 2 sub-bosses and 1 main boss per level. You have to replay each level multiple times with different characters to unlock the next one. The game is packed with options, and it was this abundance of possibilities that I really enjoyed. There are many types of balls you can launch, they can evolve into new types, and when no further evolution is possible, you can still merge your latest creations with one another. On top of that, there are passive abilities, which can also sometimes evolve. Between runs, you have access to a customizable base where you can unlock new characters, boost your stats (Endurance, Strength, Leadership, Speed, Dexterity, and Intelligence), and unlock various other options. One of these options, unlocked fairly early on, lets you play with two different characters simultaneously. This allows you to combine unique traits of the 22 playable characters: such as double shots, gravity effects, fire from the back of the map, turn-based shots, shields, and more... Unlocking a new level also unlocks new balls, passive abilities, and base upgrades. And to avoid getting lost, an encyclopedia lists all the balls/passives and their evolutions. It was also very handy for tracking down evolutions I hadn't discovered yet. There are eight levels in total, each with a distinct theme. Once you beat the final level with eight different characters, the next difficulty tier unlocks. There is also a separately unlocked game speed setting. The difficulty of the game is, in a way, the only weakness of Ball X Pit. It relies more on meta-progression and knowledge of ball evolutions than on the player's skill. During a run, aside from destroying blocks as quickly as possible, dodging enemy attacks isn't particularly difficult (and most projectiles can be countered by your own balls). Losing a run usually comes down to having stats that are too low (due to insufficient meta-progression) or making poor upgrade choices (poor knowledge of ball evolutions). In the end I had a lot of fun with the game because of the myriad of possibilities it offers. And it was only after exploring most of these possibilities that I was able to focus on the fact that the game does indeed suffer from balancing issues. I highly recommend Ball X Pit.
